During your first jump course, an instructor will verify that you can do at least 100 chinups and 100 situps, or else they won't let you jump.

Yeah, I'd be pissed.

Lost forever, or lost temporarily?

Stiletto 107 for a beginner. NO JOKE: READ AND ANSWER

> People are going to do what they want no matter what people say. I think that's true at least 98% of the time. But I do know one person who backed away from a high(er) performance canopy because enough people told him it probably wasn't a good idea. -

So lemme get this straight... You started a thread to get feedback for an acquaintance who you already informed is making an unwise canopy choice? What was the point? Were you just unsure whether his canopy selection was, indeed, an unwise choice? Low Jump Numbers + High WL = Unwise Choice -
TSA & traveling with rigs as carry on

So has anyone actually had the experience of being forced to open their reserve? So far I think the worst horror story has been of someone who was forced to check their rig. Oh, Timmy: I was wondering, do you consider it too gratuitious to read Parachutist in pubic? Or is that subtle enough to avoid the 'cool skydiver' stigma you speak of with such disgust? -

No problems, I'm on the plane now. And the shirt I'm wearing has a picture of squid swimming around on it. I hope that's okay. :D Once I get in Hotlanta, maybe I'll take you up on your offer for a trip to wal mart. Maybe. (Just don't tell Mr. Grumpypants.) -

Yea, so. What's your point? My insecurities don't include me trying to stick out from the crowd so people will know that I am a cool skydiver. And you're absolutely certain that's my intent, huh? Lol... You sound like a grumpy old man. Are you waving your cane around while you rant and rave over there? -

Tell ya what. You buy me a gear bag, and I promise I'll help suppress the Great TSA Anti-Skydiver Conspiracy by using it. I think they start at about $140 on ParaGear. -

Convenience. And saves $$$ on a gear bag. Seems kinda silly to me to buy a bag for something that was designed to fit over your shoulders already. Kinda like a backpack for a backpack or something. But that's me. -

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to fly to Atlanta for the Good Vibes boogie and will be taking my rig as a carry on, sans gear bag. Hopefully I won't have any problems. I'm flying out of John Wayne in Orange County. I did the same thing when I flew to Virginia 2 years ago and had no problems. On the way back the security guy said "Is that a parachute?" I told him it was and he just replied "Cool." That was it. -
It's about the money!! Sue everyone... you get a little from this person, and some more from another. It's never about right or wrong or who's responsible. It's always about the money. It's sad, but I completely agree with you.

All hail the most beautiful Infinity ever created! My apologies for shaming every other rig posted here.

Soooooooo.... are you saying that one's limits shouldn't be affected by one's level of experience? I think it's safe to say that every skydiver adjusts their limits at least a little bit as they progress. No?

Search the forums for discussions about the risks of skydiving versus those of driving. You'll get about a zillion threads.

Your perspective on what is and is not "safe" in skydiving is likely to change substantially as you gain experience.

My thoughts exactly.
