Gas prices have killed me this season, I am a sussex jumper and well its 18 or 20 for a hop and pop and 25 i think for a full out of a 182 and the closest turbin is too long of a drive for a easy weekender where i jump 3 times and go home to hang with my wife sussex is a 1/2 tank round trip(30/mi way) ranch is 2/3 tank round trip(58mi/way) stl in pa is 3/4 tank (75mi/way) 10 jumps since april but i guess the best way to look at is like i look at rollercoasters ect how often do you visit a theme park like six flags or mountain creek 1 maby 2 times a year unless you have a season pass? so if i do 2 jumps one weekend a month what the heck atleast i still have fun and i am not braking the bank wish skydiving could have a season pass like skiing hmmmm anyone want to build a really tall gondela with me lol

*** I understand that...your 1st post wasn't even directed at me. (good move editing out the PA by the way! ) And as to the post that is directed at me... YOU have made my point blatently obvious, thank you. You're dismissed. love the dismissed i am debating you are directing typical signs of a egotistical narcissatic control disorder :) not to be mean but just call them as i see them

i wasnt attempting to be little you as for statistics i did point out when you break it down to the actual number of the particular event and create the statistic that way the number of people participating is irrelivant just beacuse 1 million people are doing a prticular event dosent have any play on an event statistic what you are refering to is a patricipant statistic which would be wordered differently example 1 in 10 skydivers die (not a real statistic since this would be a horribly unreliable example of the dangers of an event) but i am arguing an event statistic just because more people drive than skydive dosent mean that that the 1 in 87000 statistic will diive to 1 in 50000 but tecnicaly it should remain the same if simipar patterns that are currently in play continue now as for ( mean are you trying to scare people away do you get an ego boost thinking you are a god and defied death one more time every time you jump I don't think you have any grasp of the person you're belittling here. ) that statement thankyou for proving my point obviouslly you have a supority complex atleast according to the psycological theory thats where that responce lies i didnt howver mean to belittle you this was a shotgun statement aimed at thoes that want to justify the thought that they defiy god life or whatever they believe in and they are more powerful and more in controll of their life untill they bite the bullet , bounce whatever all i simply stated is aside from the consipracy hippy like statement (No they're not, they are a form of manupilated propaganda, Most statistics can be shown to favor whatever position you are trying to cheer for. For exaple, how about comparing the number of licensed drivers in the US to the number of fatalities and then the number of active skydivers to the number of skydiving fatalities. THAT statistic will show you skydiving is incredibly more dangerous than driving! ) implying the goverment padds crap to get people to kill themselves off or whatever statistacly on an event based formula in other words number of deaths from event / number of events that took place skydiving is safer and as with driving bee sting skiing scuba ect the more you engage in the event the more at risk you are of dying from it if you jump once a week for 300 days you are less likely to die than the one jumping 1000 times a week (exaggeration of jumps but i hope you get my point) as for me befor eyou submit me to an idiot my major in college was abnormal psycology and my minor was statistical analisys

fsantastic a skydiver who thinks that instead of participating an a relativ statistacly safe sport he is engaging in a death defying stunt comeon ime not using hte basic its safer than driving but i look at numbers and no a skydiver isnt more likely to die skydiving than he or she is driving otherwise this logic will stat that ALL skydivers who activly skydive untill they die in some way will die skydiving of over a million jups 29 deaths numbers speek louder than drunken wana bee stunt junkies and then if you look at thoes deaths how many were user error in a sensible situation fine i will agree thoes jumping 96 velocitys are more at risk that me who will jump a 190 for the rest of my life but as i did say if you are sensible just like if you are sensible driving you are less likely to die jumping however being that you do jump it adds another meathod of death so fine someone like me who hang glides bune jumps scuba ski drive swim walk, fly an extra 300 and rock climbs is more likely to die from one of thoes than people that only walk but i am more lilkely to die during scuba than sky diving and i am STATISTACLY more likely to die in a car crash again STATISTICS are math not your inana pea sized brain wanting to think you are defying death STATISTICS are facts STATISTICS are like the equation 2+2 = 4 you are saying 2+2=99 i mean are you trying to scare people away do you get an ego boost thinking you are a god and defied death one more time every time you jump because we are a small community because we create this stigma because we know thoes who fall because some skygods like to give themselves false egos people ignor statistics oh and for thoes that jump to the well more people drive than skydive all thoes statistics are based on a percapita census of the number of drives to death not number of people who drive and die it is 1 in 87000 skydives end in death 1 in 66 000 drives ends in death as for can you increase your risk yes but again if you are sensible and consiverative skydiving is statistacly a safe sport pardon the spelling i am typing in a rush on a cellphone it isnt easy

i drive a car every day hell i walk down the street every day and even if i do everything correctly i can still die from it i feel that we need to drop this extreme sport mind set back in the day yes extreme sport applied the gear was as un reliable as it could be being that 99% was military surplus but now if you follow the rules and keep a sensable mind skydiving is extremely safe now if i hear one person say ime nuts i am refering to statictics you are more likely to die driving than skydiving in fact thte last time i checked 1 in 66 000 car rides ends in fatality bee sting is 1 in 87000 umm let see peanut is 1 in 90000 yea peanut (damn allergy) but ok allergys are a bad example walking down the street 1 in 180 000 thats higher but ok you are just walking ooooo here is one base ball 1 in 67000 wow thats an extreme sport just to think i could die from a freaking base ball statictaly more likely than a skydive now given the sheet i am reading off of is from 2003 but i dont have a newer census record skydiving is on here its 1 in 87000 as for in jurys i sprained my ankel at work last week and broke my leg slipping on ice 2 years ago so yea i figure skydiving is fairly safe its only the last milimeter that is really painfull

Has skydiving lost the "hippy" vibe?
overide replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
yea i here ya i have started many a topic about sky gods ect its like if you jump what i jump (a bsic cotton jumpsuit from fort benning ) you are not a skydiver and ect eh forget it i will just have fun and bring up my friends and get them into it lets make the change and get these skygods in there place .away from driving out memberships away we wonder why noone wants to get into skydiving well soo many tandem students get turned away by the attitudes at dz's not to mention the 3000$ it takes to get your licens plus the 5000 for a rig and oh that dolche and gabana jumpsuit eh i duno but blue skys here in nj ime out time to hit the air enjoy the season and jump safe all and just think of it this way if your a pompas prick and you drive thoes from comming ot the sport membership will decline we wont be able to mount defences when they try to stop us from jumping and then that 500% jumpsuit you have will be useless -
oh and as far as the resturants go i worked in the resturant field for 6 years and we could be fined for refusing service if there wasnt a valid reason under the laws of the town just an fyi

3 years is only my time my grand father who shares similar views has been a uspa member since its inception as far as what the skydiving community stands for wouldnt banning for any other reason than safety go against the beliefe of have fun and live life dont hold a grudge if someone is an ass just ignor them the will usually go somewhere else if the feel un wanted but untill they are a threat to life and limb the airspace is as much theres as it is myne and they shouldnt be banned
-
as far as banning from dropzones goes if that dropzone is a uspa supported dropzone they should not be allowed to ban you if they are not a uspa affiliated dropzone then fine they can the licens from the uspa should be treated like any other license for example a drivers license when you break the rules you get fined and suspended and revoked if someone breaks the rules ther should be a system in play for penilzation through the uspa if there license is suspended or revoked they cant jump anywhere think of it this way if i owned i95 and i said i dont like the way you dont agree with me you are banned from my road comeon the bottom line is if you are a uspa dropzone you should be governed by a set of rules set forth by the uspa regarding penalizing skydivers and frankly it should go further the uspa should create sanctions and rules governing what responsibilitys lie where and with who yes you are a buisness if you own a dz if you want to run it your way and your way only then you should not be affiliated with the uspa at all one day i hope we get a little more organized because this is one thing that is killing us as a community i cant tell you how many people i know who i have brought up for a weekend to a dz and wont take up the sport because of the bs taking place that frankly shouldnt codes of conduct should be created and inforced on skydivers and dzo's alike

i am voting an unsure recent studies show that some people concentrate on a task at hand better when there is music in the backround now is this true i have no clue but i know when i am working on tedious adobe project if i turn on music i get more done faster not surt why but i duno i havent jumped with music i only use the ipod to drone out the noise of the plane on the way up

yea if i was to do coach and aff its sumthing like 6 or 7 days of ground prep i dont think i attended that many days of highschool where i wasnt asleep
-
i think you mis understood that origional statement by removing it from the context of the origional post it wasnt ment that saymaby i had an issue that was bad and i should seek a coach but if you are gona tell someone they did something wrong whats wrong with saying "dude you flared wayy to low and your pattern was off, you could really hurt yourself and others, was there a reason ? " if he says no i screwed up or thought it was all right "well maby you should have an instructor watch you or take a coach jump cause i dont want to see you get hurt." 9 of 10 times this guy is gona get help or ask another jumper to watch the responces i am critizing are "yo learn to fly your canopy" "what do you mean" "you want to know go ask a coach to jump with you " thats total hogwash and usually this will turn off students
-
actually as it would have it i just havent updated my drozone profile since i started it as far as teaching i have taken jumps with evaluators before and they have reccomended i start the aff cources and coach cources as far as the 6 hours goes i see what people are talking about guess i will ahave to to talk to my instructors worst case that means one more year besids all sigs are valid for 24 months so no biggie just a goal for me in the next 3 years haha thanks for the insites people
-
sumthing funny i just saw someone saying that i should have 6 hours freefall expierence i have 4 but however this requirement i cant find in the instructor rating manual or proficancy card anywhere not to mention it wasnt stated be the instructor of an aff cource near me? is this a instructor decision or a new ruling since 2006?
-
I am going for my aff this summer hopefully anyone know if it is likely for me to find a job as aff if i only have the 215 + jumps? and if so curious what is the average per jump pay for aff instructor? and one last anyone know if the north nj aera dzs would be running a class after july 10th since thats when i get back from my honeymoon maby i could find a dz willing to train me then have me work it off haha =P that would be awesome
-
wow i heard that when i bought my 210 at jump 27 everyone said you will want a 150 in 30 jumps you will get bored with it its too slow ect ect, well since then 2 of thoes people downsized to 90 velocitys and both have had injurys under them no deaths but injurys, me i am 208 jumps and still in one piece and still enjoying my 210 i am preparing for a 190 or 170 sabre 2 since i have flown both well through demos and there are 3 reasons for the down size 1 my canopy has over 600 jumps on it 2 it is the largest canopy for my container and i would like an easier pack 3 i am moving to a aera of regurlary higher winds than nj and i want the better penetration ok i lied 4 i need to beat the student down a little faster when i get into aff =P

You know i here your point but i am not saying take along the low-time jumper as a student necessairlly if you want to teach them thats just a + for the low jumper, However why dont i see this much: like if I am jumping solo on my 3rd flight and i see a person in rented gear or obviously new gear i ask whats goin on what jump is this and i ask if they want to join me in free fall, we come up with a basic lets go out docked and break off take it from there and determin 6k we break off and he pulls at 5000 even if i am in a group some times i try to bring in a never jumped with 4 people person remember there is a first time for everyone there is alot they can learn from ovserving and participating,, and in these cases i always go out aff level 1 style if they have less than 50 jumps or i havent jumped with them before just to make sure they are stable enough and if not i give them the signals and abandon my part of the group, I love to see the look on there face and i like helping people out but thats my personality now if i am practicing sumthing i havent done before or am still working on well then i take either someone exierenced more than me or i go solo but this is for safety of others, and by all means i am not rich i go one day or 2 days a week and put in 4 - 5 jumps per week, i am the casual jumper untill i teach aff then well maby alot more often, now before anyone jumps on the aff as long as i have another job if i ever see a student that needs an aff jump but is shy on the money if a dz would allow it i would gladly do an aff for a jump ticket, assuming i dont allready have one for the load and i am jumping solo, and you know why because someone did this for me once to help me out, great man my instructor , hope to link up with him when i finally move to florida ,

Anyone Know Greg Rau, i believe he is in central florida now

I have 207 jumps and still jump a 220 pilot. I have to ask why is it that when i go to a drop zone i dont know anyone at or back to my home Dropzone where they dont know my exact number of jumps do they treat me like crap. Constantly i get the you take too long to get down you dont land 3 feet from the hanger comments. (i like to land as far from the 30 other jumpers as possible but still in the landing aera) Other wonderful comments i here are to students, Now me i am going for my aff rating and this gets to me. Jumpers with i will say more than 200 jumps at my home dropzone i have personally heard making comments to a licens jumpers. I have even heard it from instructors, Example : Expierenced jumper says you landed to close to the flag and your pattern was bad, so the student asks what did you see me do wrong? and the reply he gets dont ask me get a coach to jump with you. what the hell guys help out people maby he dosent want to spend 80$ on a coach jump to be told to turn in a little earlier. now when i had 51 jumps i was working with another 50 ish jumper, i had just gotten my pilot and well my landings were anything but gracefull , so one day i show up at the dropzone and ask if anyone wants to free fall with me one of the hotsho sky gods walks up to me and says you need to stop jumping with others and concentrate on your canopy piloting, so i ask what are you talking about what am i doing wrong, what responce do i get but "i dont know i cant help you go pay a coach for a jump" not on the one side i see the point if i was a hazard you should tell me why! but other than that free falling with someone and piloting in alone well lets see how the hell does free falling with someone prevent me from practicing my canopy skills when i still pull at 4500 i constantly see in parachutest that membership is declining, and i can see why, i almost left because the dz where i kept seeing these attitudes was the only one in my aera, lets face it this is bad conduct and it just drives students away, Stop trying to make this a money machine and help people otherwise noone will be jumping anymore becuase it will just be too damn expensive oh and i should also mention my old home dz its sister dz which has the people with the worst attitudes i have ever seen has on average 1 to 3 deaths a year so i think these people should re evaluate their attitude
-
I here ya i have 207 jumps after 3 years and i still jump my 210 pilot now i want a 210 or 190 sabre 2 cause i like the flight better but other than that why do you want to take the nice 5 - 8 minuit canopy ride and drop it to 2 like seriously enjoy the view enjoy flying and get your 20$ worth, Now as for peer pressure i have to say i expierence it every day, i am going for my aff rating and soooooo many other jumpers say if you dont fly a 120 you shouldnt be teaching, my point is i am a conservitave sky diver i like my legs in one piece, and i intend to teach this to my students,

PLease Help Newish Jumper with problems
overide replied to overide's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok i have 27 jumps on a falcon 260 230 and a pd sabre 1 210 all no problems with my landings all standup i purchased gear for myself this season and i could only find a pilot 210 now its used and has been inspected and is fine. I however cannot land the damn thing for a stand up landing it will drift on my un predictable flairs ect i only have 5 jumps on this canopy could i just be unreasonable in the fact i am expecting to land perfect on it? i have stood one landing up but i know i flaired high all the other are sliding in on feet to rear to standing or a plf (1 time) i also had the issue of the canopy stalling in a into the wind approach today where i just made the landing aera i am quite frustrated just because i feel as though i cant figure out my canopy i duno what to do. mainly i am just wondering if its cause i am still new (37 jumps) (5 on this canopy) and i should just keep jumping it or if it sounds like sumthing else i am considering having a jm watch me the next time i jump to tell me whats up and possibly seeing if anyone more expierenced will jump it and see if its me i duno what else to do any feedback will be appreciated
