Maybe this is broken in skydivers

Anyone else have a hard time believing that only half the jumpers are under 40? In another thread someone mentioned the USPA ranks being inflated by inactive jumpers from the past with a lifetime membership. No DZ I've been at have that sort of age distribution. I'd venture the 50% point is much closer to 30. That said, I'm sure there is a age-fatality relationship not too different from that of drivers. Again jump numbers, people not showing up as often could easily explain any discrepancy, but folks also keep their memberships when they're not current, this could skew with age for obvious reasons.

Thanks. To make much sense of data like this we really also need the population of skydivers in each category. FOR EXAMPLE, USPA shows 53% of its members are under 40 yrs. Your data show 65% of landing fatalities in this age group. This indicates that being under 40 is a risk factor for landing fatalities. Over 50% of USPA members have fewer than 250 jumps. Yet only 43% of landing fatalities are in this group. So what are we to conclude from that? Exactly, I was going to post the same thing. The data are meaningless w.r.t. analysis without this information. Even with it it's dodgy drawing conclusions but for all we know this could mean younger low jump skydivers are safer (not taking that position just illustrating the possibility). The explanation may come when you factor in jumps per skydiver which is a very reasonable thing to do. Many high jump skydivers jump a *lot*, so fatalities per skydiver per jump would be a true measure of safety w.r.t. how we intuitively perceive it. (there are different ways of looking at this). It also shows how you can sometimes use statistics to pull out a metric that supports any position you like.

I do see it that way, FWIW I have absolutely no objection to Russia selling Syria surface to air defense missiles as long as they're not man portable. I never said Iraq was fighting the USSR, there's a backstory to all of this, these dictators often played East against West back then selling arms was used to gain political influence. Of course it could easily be argued that saving Iraq from being absorbed into a fanatical pan-Arabian anti-American theocracy was a worthy objective at the time. What the USA sold Iraq was frankly a drop in the bucket, dual use never became an issue until the supergun fiasco hit the headlines. It was still of course Soviet tanks aircraft and balistic missiles Iraq was armed with right to the end, not their US counterparts.

What kind of diet would you recommend to maximize the volume/sound effect of a fart yet still minimize the olfactory impact? Just need a little consulting here. Welcome back. It's been kind of slow and not nearly as fun. From personal experience lot's of carbonated diet soda. OTOH the total impact depends on what else you consume with it.

Alternatively we didn't arm the terrorists of the Mujahideen, we gave Afghan Rebels fighting the Soviet superpower (the guys occupying Eastern Europe with ICBM's pointed at our cities and Tanks lined up to roll across Western Europe) stinger missiles to shoot down Russian Hinds etc. If we hadn't the Berlin Wall may still be standing and Northern Pakistan would be in an even worse state than it is today. It's east to mischaracterize history and paint it black without considering the alternatives. w.r.t. arming SH, depends when you look but at various times it has been in our interests to court him, especially when fighting the spread of Soviet influence. The USA pretty much lost out there, that's why SH was burrying MiGs and not F-16s and the US was blowing up T-72 tanks not Abrams. Last I checked those weren't made in the USA.

Cry me a river, it wasn't a personal attack. I pointed out that your loyalty is not the issue it's your ability to convince other people who look at the party with a critical mind that's the problem. You calling it a personal attack doesn't make it one, but it does tell me I struck a nerve. You tried to shoot the messenger and missed, aim higher. Dean as chairman is a problem for Democrats, not because he pleases the faithfull but because he will scare away marginal voters. As I observed, you just can't see that, Your interpretation of my description of plain facts as a personal attack is just another symptom. P.S. the accusation of personal attack is in itself a personal attack, and one peculiar to this forum due to the style of moderation. It's a really low tactic.

I dunno, have you ever seen "The Big Lebowski"? Smoking & driving can be dangerous!

Yup I've done this and it was pretty recent when I was still on student status in Texas, a bit like a CReW run, it's what I was trained to do when there are a lot of Hop 'n Pops. I was surprised recently at a local DZ, we did a Hop 'n Pop and the first guy starts spotting, then the second then the third, they were taking at least 8 second delays between each other on a hop & pop. We barely got 4 out on a pass. Then one guy finally does it right and get's out maybe two seconds after the guy in front (he still has plenty of separation and a nice opening all caught on video), and when he get's down most of the jumpers are laughing at him for doing pretty much what I was taught was safe on a Hop 'n Pop exit. FWIW I rode that one down (exit was a bit low for me).

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/02/16/teacher.arrested.ap/index.html Well we never quite got to electric detonators but when I was in high school chemistry class the principals of bombs and explosions were a standard part of the curriculum. I still remember the lid blowing off a coffee tin fueled by a custard powder - air explosion

Bah I knew this already having seen Total Recall.

My first Hop 'n Pop was from 3500' I got stable went to pull and rolled, so I stabilized went to pull and rolled again. Then I realized I wasn't putting my other hand up because I wasn't waving off on the hop 'n pop, so I got stable and pulled successfully putting my arm up this time. Turned out I had more time than I realized (and needed it). Of course I had to repeat the Hop 'n Pop and I was apprehensive after my earlier experience

"If"? I though...... Riiiiiiiight very reasonable of you there dude. So he get's the rise out of you online (and you plain don't like the guy) so you're gonna try to use whatever influence you have to end his career. Mr, it's attitudes like that among "Feds" that scares the hell out of many ordinary Americans.

It'll be fun to watch Dean fundraise for Hillary in 4 years. Heh!
-
Ha ha. You just don't see it. It's not about what you or the other faithfull think, we know what you think, and who you'll vote for. You're predictable. Unfortunately for you and your buddies you need to convince other more critical minds to join you in the polling booth and that's at the heart of your problem. That's why Dean is a problem for you. Try citing Dan Quale in 2 years time, please, it should be fun.

Umm, I am not saying the behaviour (the pulled handles, etc.) isn't deplorable; but didn't something like this (effectively ratting someone out to their boss) just happen to PhillyKev? And it was REALLLLY not cool? I don't care if he did it or not - if he really is an ATC (which I tend to seriously doubt), would you trust someone who has such a poor lack of judgement to guide aircraft? I may not be a Fed anymore, but I'm still tight with some, so I hope he is an ATC, I really do, because when I'm done with him, he won't be one anymore either. mh . Not a Fed anymore? You have just shown us the unchecked ego for the whole power-drunk trip, you should reapply.

It's not as dumb a question as it sounds: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/gurney_goldsworthy.shtml P.S. in this case lime is the mineral, not the fruit.

"Going to Vegas and drinking myself to death" is sort of a fantasy of mine that comes out when I am in a blue place... I actually just got back into town this morning... Have you seen the movie "Leaving Las Vegas", you might like it.

From the working system go into the switch web configuration and make sure it is set to assign enough DHCP addresses in a sufficient range. Often there are controls in there to limit this and if it only has one IP address to assign then it'll run out of them pretty quick.

Your point? Yea they have some doctored stuff, but they have real stuff too. Doctored? If it was doctored it would probably be a better shot, without the person bent over etc. I believe!

Wonder if this ever happens with tandems.
