Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Margin Call Beginners Easy A Crazy Heart Michael Clayton That's just a few (looked down my Netflix list of movies I've gotten in the last few years to recall which ones I enjoyed the most. Of course, lots of the best ones I actually got around to seeing in the theater, but these were all enjoyable ones). "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Another Skydance regular here. Most of the events get posted at the Skydance Facebook page. Definitely check it out to stay in the loop "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Start and end your day early. That has two advantages - you're jumping in the cool(er) part of the day, and in many areas (including your own) you're more likely to beat the "crazy wind" part of the day. I did team training at Perris a couple years back in the summer, and we'd start at 7 or 7:30, do 8 jumps, and be done by 2, just as the winds would start to get shifty and turbulent. I much preferred watching other people try to land in that while I was enjoying a cold one at the Bombshelter. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Durr, yes, of course. Forgot that the canopy stuff was buried so far down in section 6. Good catch. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Too soon? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Pick up the SIM and reread at least section 2, 4, 5, and 6.1 before you go back. Those will be a good refresher on all the basics. It's online and there's also a smartphone app version now (both iPhone and Android). http://www.uspa.org/SIM.aspx My general suggestion would be - don't rush. If your profile numbers are accurate, you didn't have a huge number of jumps before you took your break. Be prepared to break back into things slowly. In other words, if you do your recurrency jump and someone invites you on a 10-way for the next jump, it's probably not the best idea to say yes. It'll take you a while to regain the comfort and awareness in the air to be safe on jumps with more than one or two other people. Welcome back! I thought of this thread today when I watched a coworker pull the orange out of her box lunch. She brought the unpeeled fruit up to her mouth and I thought "Holy crap, I'm going to see someone actually eat an orange peel," but she just used her teeth to bite off a small bit of the peel so she could easily start peeling it. I was disappointed, but filed it away for posting later in the day. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. http://www.ihi.com/ As of the time I bought my policy (February of this year), these guys did not exclude skydiving. I'd recommend reading the fine print to be sure it hasn't changed, but generally these folks get good reviews and the price is reasonable for pretty comprehensive coverage. It's especially easy with the growing ubiquity of Facebook. Just look up the person, look for mutual friends, and boom ... there's your connection. If you believe the song, he's still down there. She could slip him a nickel now, but she'd have to do it a bunch of times to get him enough fare to get off. People do nothing but rave about Empuriabrava in Spain. (Haven't been so I can't vouch for it personally, but it's high on my list of places to check out). Ah, missed that. California would still be in the mix, though. Might add Raeford (DZ & tunnel) as well, though NC can be only mildly less swampy than FL that time of year. More specifics from the folks running the boogie itself: http://meadowpeakskydiving.com/ I wholeheartedly second the recommendation of Lost Prairie if you can adjust your schedule to support it. Oh, sorry. Let me try again. If you go to a post office, or a FedEx Office, or a UPS Store (or the many other retail shipping locations out there), a HUMAN working behind the counter will look at your package and its destination, put it on a scale, and tell you how much it will cost to ship it using a variety of shipping methodologies. Better? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

The "research" was done by a fashion retailer and reported (with absolutely no information about the methodology other than a couple specious numbers) by a fashion blog (with a direct segue into "check out these dresses") and you're taking it in the slightest bit seriously as a way to understand the "average" women? Yeah, good luck with that. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. If "where the hell did I leave my purse" and "Did I spill something on my blouse" count as "thoughts about fashion," I might get up to a half dozen thoughts a day. Otherwise I can't relate to this article in the least. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

USPS and other shippers have online calculators that will get you a much more accurate answer since you can put in the actual origin and destination of your package, as well as its actual weight and dimensions. That will be much more accurate than a general question on a forum about "international shipping." "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. My Struggle & Journey (advice needed)
NWFlyer replied to JefferyHale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think any of us can answer the "should you continue" question; only you (and your instructors) can answer that. What I found helped me a lot when I was a struggling student (and I still use the technique to this day), is visualization. It helps to have some time after you brief the dive with your instructor but before you need to gear up and get ready. Find a quiet place, sit down, clear your head, close your eyes, and visualize the entire skydive, starting with getting on the plane, to the ride up, to your jump prep in the plane, to your climbout, to exit, to all the skills you're asked to demonstrate in freefall, to pull time, and through your entire canopy ride to landing. Try to visualize the climbout to pull part in "real time," calmly, and patiently. Visualize everything going exactly as planned. Helps with a few things - 1) it gets the dive flow more embedded in your head so you're not sitting there at 9,000 feet thinking "oh, shit what am I supposed to do next?" and more importantly 2) It creates a positive image of a skydive in your head, that you can then work on making happen for real. Repeat this as many times as you need to in order to feel ready. Continue to visualize the entire dive flow on the ride up. Visualize success. Then do it. N00B On a long spot! What to do what to do!
NWFlyer replied to shah269's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There's a strong argument for carrying cell phones (if the area where the DZ is has decent reception - some are so far out in the boonies that a cell wouldn't help much). One thing to think about is to make sure you have the DZ number (not the reservations number, which may not get you directly to someone who can help, but the number for manifest) programmed in. Many a skydiver has hitched a ride back to the DZ in all manner of vehicle... it's part of the adventure of a skydive. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Convenience store dude and his wife are my new heroes. I love the whole "pull the dude's pants down and wail on his ass" strategy. Take a canopy course. The B license course should be covering that. Or you could search. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=long+spot&search_type=AND&search_fields=sb&search_time=&search_user_username=&sb=score&mh=50 "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
