WHITE is my new favorite color! ...

Well,.... I get to revive an old thread of mine I just had my SECOND damn reserve ride This makes 4 malfunctions, and 2 reserve rides in less than 100 jumps, , bit worse than the average I believe. Good thing is that I did everything as practiced, it wasnt really a big issue because unlike my last mal I wasnt spinning on my back or anything, .. This clearly destroys my plans of doing my naked 100th skydive at Elsinore tomorrow, ... ohh well.. Mabey next week I had a stepthrough, I really have no idea HOW I get this into my pack job, I remember when I packed this one I thought it was the cleanest pack job I have made to date, but.. yup... here I am writing that it didnt work. I can only guess that I must have flipped the bag somehow after I had the canopy in it, while walking it to the bottom of the container to stow the risers? I dunno... Lost my stupid freebag too.. Anyway, YES I CHOPPED A STEP THROUGH, I really dont wanna hear any more about how I probably could have landed it, so please dont say it. And yes, today white is my favorite color again.. That PDR-193 also flew like a champ, again.. I love that reserve canopy, will never fly anything but PD reserves, dont need to try anything else. Thanks PD FGF #??? I miss the sky... Actually, thinking about it, lol.. I have to do it sunday.. My reserve repack expires on Monday Uggh, nervous about this! (but excited at the same time ) Really wish I could be there on Sat... Sounds like a really good event, sorry I have to miss it.. Mabey I'll show up sometime in the afternoon or evening.. We'll see. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Good for you, but everyone is showing up on SATURDAY for the Memorial, get-together, car-bashing, fun-raiser, etc. You should go then because it sounds like it will be a good time. Gia and I won't be there on Sunday because we are going to the King Tut Exhibition, but it would be cool to see you on Saturday. Hope that you can make it.

ahh yes... built for video editing I love that crap.. I plan on building a excessive system myself one of these times, and video editing happens to be the main thing I want to base it on as well... I also wanna get a dual head system setup, 2 flat panel displays, ummm hmmm... yea, i'm a geek I just seem to love shooting video and making short little films, skydiving or not.. , but my computer now is just TOO DAMN SLOW. Amen to that my brother! Now, I know I have a buddy to ask questions if I come across a problem that I cannot resolve, which really never happens but at least I know I can ask for your opinion if it does. Blue skies. Yup, good stuff huh :) You probably know more than I do anyway, since I have kind of stopped keeping track of alot of the latest and greatest. FGF #??? I miss the sky... do not mess with the partitions, you are correct that this will cause you to loose all of your data.... I find it odd that you are unable to see the drive after installing the utilities on the new software load....... I'll write again if I get some brain activity worth a shit on this subject. As far as new component recomendations, .. i'm gonna leave that to someone else , i've kinda fallen behind on some of that stuff lately. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Yes, you're right. We don't know if he has a USB 2.0 interface. However, even if he didn't, USB 2.0 is backwards compatible. Therefore, you can plug into a USB 1.0 jack. However, then the speed will be comprimised, of course. Yeah, good point, that would defeat the purpose. Unless, we go with firewire but that's a different ball of wax. What are you benchmarking them against? Are your drive speeds up to 7200rpm? Well, since we're both in IT, we can safely say that computer related problems are viewed on a case by case basis. 3 out of 10 people might experience the same problems while the other 7 won't. You know as well as I do that it's all based on which brand of hard drive enclosures they're using, what applications they're using, how much memory they have, what their drive speeds are, yada yada yada. Yup And since we are both IT we will always have our own ways of doing things eh? ... FGF #??? I miss the sky... I wasnt trying to be too negative, really, and I just realize that it may have come accross that way.. I love my neptune, I only use my protrack as an audible now, and the thing was AWSOME to have on the night jumps I just did, and Alti-2 has been good to me.. Hope that this post can take back anything bad I may have said FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

I'm gonna do an update, seems I am a few verisons off... Also, it does just seem that it is the FF counter that starts late, I just looked at some of my recent jumps in paralog and see what you just said Kelpdiver... FGF #??? I miss the sky... its not that big of a deal, I was just commenting to the guy that said the neptune would count part of jump run as the jump, I was just stateing that I've seen the opposite Also, as far as neptune support, .. I've already been PMed by someone from Alti-2 just from them reading this post.. I've had to contact them before, they have always been very supportive, A+ to alti-2. FGF #??? I miss the sky... Computer help needed- specifically, BIOS update question

This is doable but not feasible. The IDE card will most probably be a PCI interface. This will slow down the drive's performance dramatically. PCI bus speeds compared to IDE bus speeds is a lot slower. I'd say go for the USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure. It's simple and you can take the drive with you anywhere you please. It's cheap too. And it's a heck of a lot faster than a PCI bus speed. You can't f*ck with USB 2.0. USB hard drive enclosure Your assuming he *HAS* a USB 2.0 interface in this older computer that wont take a 300gb hard drive... You can get a USB 2.0 interface, but once again it will be PCI... I'm running drives on a PCI IDE card and have noticed no issues with drive speeds, .. Now the USB thing is a good idea for carrying the drive around, just get a decent one, some friends of mine have had all kinds of problems with those things in the past.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... I use my neptune as a wrist mount alti... so my alti that I look at and my data logger are one in the same, .. it's just that the neptune delays logging your skydive for a brief time after you have left the door, even though you can see your exit in the graph it says you exited lower than what you can see in the graph and what you see on the alti before leaving the door. exactly, and it isn't even mentioned that while doing this (if at all) first turn with rears to the dropzone, instead of going away from the dz... Unless ofcourse you are before the DZ on jumprun right? I Dont fly my conopy down jumprun until other groups have opened, would suck to fly myself more into someones freefall path, especially if you have tracked down jumprun because you were in a group of more than 2 eh? That should work then, once you install windows on your new boot drive, and then install the utilities you got from the HD manufacture, you will have all your info and be good to go As far as duct taping a drive to the side of the case, what's wrong with that? That's more effort than I've used sometimes when I've had drives just dangling from cables FGF #??? I miss the sky... Are you saying that your going to try to boot off of the 300gb drive? This will *NOT* work, infact you may not even be able to boot off of that drive with a second IDE controller.. You will have to use one of your old smaller drives to hold the operating system since those utilities will have to run to use that drive. With a second IDE controller you would still have to have the boot record on a different drive as your systems BIOS just will not boot a drive it cant see, many times even with a second controller. (as in the case of my system, I have a 20 gig drive that does nothing but the first half second of the boot process, then receives the command to sleep as soon as the system finishes booting ) As long as the OS (windows) is on a smaller drive, and you have those utilities installed on that copy of windows, you will be able to access anything on the big drive. Get an add on IDE card... Check the yellow pages for some small computer parts store or something usually you can find these for like $20.. The IDE cards have their own chips on them and will allow you to use drives larger than what your computers BIOS will recognize (I had to do this on an old PII system that I have large hard drives in) FGF #???
