Anybody remember a Saturday Night Live episode where Phil Hartman, dressed as Charlton Heston, keeps running through sketches insisting anguishedly, "It's people!! Soylent Green is PEEEEOOOOPLE!!" I rented that sorry movie on the strength of that sketch alone. The movie was weird and sucky but the SNL bit still makes me laugh.

Actually, it sounds like your home did that. I wonder if I could ever miss any geographic aspect of Dallas...there are no streams...no vineyards...no trees...no nothin'. As much as I love Texas, central north is the ugliest part of it. Who lives someplace really pretty? I'm up for a change in locale in a year or two.

Right on, Zennie. Nice. Froggie, I'm sorry. I know anniversaries are hard.

I often play the "if-I-could-be-anywhere-but-here" game with myself at work...thinking about the myriad things I could be doing rather than pushing a mouse. Obviously, the No. 1 fantasy is skydiving, but today I found myself seized with a maddening urge to curl up on my couch, hide under a blanket, and watch a Star Wars movie marathon. Anyone else?

These images are kind of disturbing. I apologize in advance if anyone thinks it's tacky of me to post this link, but I figure some people would want to see. Thank God it turned out the way it did. http://www.wcmessenger.com/news/planewreck/thumbnails.html

Thanks everyone! My rig is on its way to Mexico! I love the thought of my gaudy pink and magenta and blue canopy flying over the beach.

This isn't where I jump, but I know a lot of people who do. In fact, two of my best friends were on that very plane (single otter) two weeks ago. Plane carrying skydivers crashes 03/31/2001 WFAA.com DECATUR – A single engine plane with at least 22 people aboard crash landed in a grove of trees near Decatur this afternoon. At least seven people were taken to hospitals. The Wise County Sheriff's office reported there were no fatalities. The aircraft was apparently carrying skydivers, but it was not immediately clear whether it was taking off or landing at the time of the accident. Four helicopter ambulances and five ground units carried the injured to Fort Worth area hospitals. The high-wing single engine aircraft with a large open door on its side crashed just a few hundreds yards away from Bishop Field, a grassy landing strip outside Decatur. Weather conditions at the time of the incident were nearly ideal, with sunny skies and light, 6 mph winds from the north.

Phwaaw, who cares? I bought a used pro-tec for $15 in my DZ's gear store. It'll do me just fine until I have $300 to dump on something sexier.
-
Jeez, good point, but that's really heavy. I guess it's a calculated risk, just like skydiving. OKAY, I have decided to lend her the rig. I think.
-
Yes, but that's not important right now. Not to put too fine a point on it say I'm the only bee in your bonnet!!

Ah, TMBG. Every time I hear them I am HURTLED BACK IN TIME to the early 90s. I recently got dumped (by a damn whuffo!) and was thinking about road tripping to New Orleans Easter weekend to see them as a I'm-independent-and-do-whatever-the-f***-I-want-goldurnit kind of thing. TMBG was the first concert I ever saw...I was 14 and they were touring for Apollo 18. Great show. I saw them again years later. Sigh... I'm your only friend I'm not your only friend but I'm a little glowing friend but really I'm not actually your friend but I am... [THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA]

Letting something that cost more than my first automobile out of my sight for a week.

I've got a good friend, better skydiver than me, who wants to borrow my rig for a few days while she jumps at an tandem dropzone in Mexico with no gear rentals (they'll sell you a slot on the Cessna if you have your own stuff). She's offered to pay for my Cypres 4-year check in exchange. The idea makes me really nervous, but on the other hand I trust her, like the idea of someone else paying that $200, and think my rig would have a good time in Mexico.

Mental...image...so...disturbing! "I think I know the difference between a wedgie and someone sticking their finger up my bum." Can't argue with that.

Here's the Web site...I think this has been posted here before. http://qlink.queensu.ca/~6ceb3/recroom/buffalo.htm

What exactly are "bollocks"? Is it a noun? "That's just bollocks." Or a verb? "He'd just bollocks it up." Am I using this word correctly? Please reply soonest. I'm really wondering about this.

I'm so pissed! The only day I could go was Saturday, and it was pouring rain. Hope y'all had a good time. Did you meet Mike Ortiz?

Just curious. It looks like there will be a lot of us.

A job that keeps me busy approximately 43 percent of the work day. Very fast Internet access at said job. No respect for authority. Etc.

Here's a pretty cool BASE Web site. http://www.blincmagazine.com/ I love the clandestine tone of the whole thing.

Oh no no no...I've been jumping the gear; that's why I haven't given it to my rigger. And I won't fudge it past Saturday -- in fact, I'm planning to hand off the whole thing to him this weekend. Don't worry, everyone...I wouldn't do anything unsafe or illegal. Immoral, maybe.

I'm scared to click. I'm at work, for God's sake.

The cypres on the gear I bought in Octoberish was due for a 4-year check in February. I kept MEANING to take it in, but the weather finally cleared up, and...well, you know. I really want to jump it this weekend, but I'm a little worried. Is it safe to fudge the 4-year checks by a couple of months? It goes through the cycle just fine when I turn it on, and the batteries are still okay. On a related note, must you have the reserve repacked THE VERY DAY four months have gone by? Is it a safety issue or a legal issue? (This is just rhetorical.) I'm not trying to duck the rules or anything. I want to keep myself safe, but I also want to jump this weekend.
