A jumper I know has horrible knees, too many injuries over a short period of time. He always does a butt slide on landing to help prevent future injuries. It's not a 100% sure way to prevent injuries, but it is something that you can consider. Your best bet would be to go to your local dz and talk to the instructors and dzo there and get their input. I grew up next to a large river and we would have those come up in the yard frequently. My brother and I, not realizing how dangerous they were, would poke and chase them until my mother decided to show us what it felt like to be treated that way. She chased us with a stick and when she was close enough she poked us with it. Since that "lesson" I have never teased a snake. Good ole mom... she used to try to make the punishment fit the crime. I used to have a garter snake as a pet. He was a bit bigger than an earthworm when I first got him, the pet shop lady didn't think he would live so she didn't charge me for him. He was cute in the beginning and I liked having him around (except meal time which consisted of squished blood worms). I learned how to handle him as he grew bigger and I developed a certain amount of knowledge about snakes. Once he outgrew the bloodworms and had to move on to mice I found a better home for him. I couldn't handle feeding him live mice. Ever since then I have had a healthy respect for snakes. I neither like nor dislike them, but I do recognize the need for them to balance our ecological system. When I see one I don't freak out, I tend to let it go its way while I go mine. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer." I never agreed with that statement. I have no room for drama in my life and so when someone's character is in question or they cause me offence or pain I simply ignore their exsistance, thus removing any future potential for recurrent drama. Classes all morning Clinical work Massages in the afternoon Went home and played on dz.com Baked some herb bread Shower Post whored And now it is time for bed. I am scheduled to give massages at a charity event from 8:30-3:30 tomorrow and so I have resorted to Sominex to get a few hours of sleep.
