Greetings, This is coming form a netbook running Debian testing openbox with some xfce4 bits thrown is. For the most part thats what I use. It works well But its defiantly has me on the command line a lot. I've used Ubuntu in the past. I've also used Backtrack, Fedora, Red Hat, and CENTos. I've dabbled with Gentoo and Slackware as well. They each have their purpose. Slackware makes and awesome firewall, Backtrack is an killer penetration platform. I always come back to Debian though it gives me the ease of use while allowing me to set everything up just as I want it. (for instance openbox vs gnome) Debian also has the largest repo out there hands down. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

Well yeah I may be drunk after beer pong for the last 10 hours. So anyway maybe this should be a poll. My divorce is final on the 19th and what's the best way to celebrate... Intentional cutaway or naked jump with a local hottie? Of which I'd need to find one the Houston area as my soon to be ex didn't like me jumping :( Local hotties? This one was always fun when I was stationed up there... http://www.akbushcompany.com/ Its a unique place it didn't have a pole though. Can't say how it is now but when I was going most of the girls were locals. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

Aggieland closing......Damn
BeattheDrums replied to pilot-one's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nooooooo! I always hate to hear about a DZ closing. I'm actually in the process of transferring to A&M. Was really looking forward to having that DZ near by. Have heard nothing but good things about it from my friends that jumped there. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi" -
Whoops... I just realized that I had done 6x^4 minus 5x^3 instead of plus. This changes the answer a bit. its 2x^2 + 3x + 2 with a remainder of 7x +5 See attached. PM for a bigger copy if this ones unreadable I had to shrink it down. edited to actually add the attachment. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

I got 2x^2 -1/3x + 2/9 with a remainder of 31/9x -5 I haven't had time to triple check but I was able to multiply it back and get the original answer. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

I did the one in Dallas in May. It was alot of fun. Slow and steady. Actually we did it with steins of beer just to see how much we'd have left at the end of the run. I'm really looking forward to the on in Conroe as its Waaaay closer to me than the one in Dallas or Austin. Every one was friendly. There was good tunes. Lots of beer. Turkey legs. And lots of hot girls being hosed off at the end! I'd recommend it if yall are interested. Dan A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

A little late to this but here is a home made solution. One of the guys at my first DZ was making these for people. Basically an elastic band was used to make a strap that would fit between the index finger and the thumb. I love it. Easy to read doing just about anything. I am typing this on an Acer Aspire 1. I love it. I had another one prior to this one and my wife took it. I was a little apprehensive about the 80% keyboard but after 15 minutes I was used to it. I tried a couple different netbooks out at the store before I decided on the acer. I chose it because of the keyboard layout. The other ones I tried didn't have some of the keys where they should have been or something like that. Those drove me crazy. So thats the biggest advice I can give you is go play with them yourself. I have typed long papers on my keyboard and it works just fine. (I too am a college student.) Take the Hard Disk over the Solid state drive. Get one with a gig of ram at least. You can upgrade it later if you need to. (some you have to take completely apart to do so but you can). I think most still have the atom processor which will give ya 1.6 ghz or so. Really not bad. I run linux on it now but my wifes runs windows xp home. I put windows 7 ultimate on mine for a little while it ran pretty well I just like linux so I have control on what my computer does. Some have suggested a mac and I'll have to disagree. OSX is great I just can't stand apple as a company though. But I'm actually disagreeing because your planning to take it to school where it has a decent chance of getting stolen or broken. Might as well only be out 300 instead of twice that. Just my thought. Oh yeah also get at least a 6 cell battery the 3 cells don't last as long. The Nine Cells will last even longer. They just cost more. I also recommend ignoring any sales person at best buy. Occasionally you find one that has a clue but not often. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

I only packed mine a couple of times before I had my rigger convert it to a regular one. I just thought the split bag was a pain in the butt. The rigger said most of the other mirage owners had already had that done. Not sure how true that was though. Anyway I'm really happy with the stitched up D bag A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

Do you still watch the video of your first jump?
BeattheDrums replied to BeattheDrums's topic in The Bonfire
I think I'm gonna tell him that and see if I can't convince him to get the video done. I do remember shaking EZ's hand on mine was freaking cool as hell! Thanks! Dan A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi" -
Do you still watch the video of your first jump?
BeattheDrums replied to BeattheDrums's topic in The Bonfire
My buddy is doing his tandem tomorrow, weather pending, and he was wondering about getting the video. He's worried that its cost to much... I tried to tell him how cool having video evidence is. You only get one chance to do the first jump right. Anyway I know I watch mine occasionally still and was just wondering how common that is? So if you got a video for your first jump do you still watch it? or am I just weird? A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi" -
Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
BeattheDrums replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks Wendy! Yeah I agree with that thread and had decided a while back that any in air riggering (is that a word) on the main was just a bad idea. Not worth it with a perfectly good reserve. The hook knife is for the unlikely and rare Ball O shit on the reserve. The new hook knife will just be for when I drop the first one A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi" -

I think what freaked me out the most about that video is that pulling the Main didn't even cross my mind. I was trying to figure out how to fix the reserve... which once the twist got to the risers I knew was impossible... I'm glad videos like this are out there because it got me thinking... new rule... at hard deck Get rid of what I can. and If i can't just get fabric OUT. By far the scariest video I have see. Think I'll buy another hook knife A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi" -
Looks alot better at normal speed. I was Hoping Texas would make lane splitting legal this year but they ended their session with out voting on it. Would have made the Houston Traffic alot nicer. Howdy all, I'm getting close to the recommended 200 jumps and C license. But the down side is I'm just coming off a lay off. So as much as I'd like to strap the camera on at 200 I think I'll give it a little while longer to make sure skydiving has really "come back" to me. My question is how long should that be. I was out for 4 years between jumps 196 and 197. The re-currency jump went well so I didn't forget everything. I was thinking probably another 30 jumps before I think about the camera. Does that sound too long? too short? just right? Additionally I have dug out the used camera helmet I purchased a while back and am trying to get it ready for its beer jump with me. I've attached some pictures of it. Any advice on what to do to get it ready to go? I do plan on taking it out to the DZ and have the video guys out there look at it too. Just thought I would get a head start. Thanks in advance guys. A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

I'm back!! I want to say Thanks to Skydive Delmarva for making it happen!! Its amazing how fast it came back. I was on the plane on the way to altitude and wonder how in the hell I'm gonna pull this jump off. Its been forever... what if I can't remember how to do anything? We get to the spot and I climb out to exit. I give the count and go. As soon as I came off the plane it was like a switch got flipped in my brain. I came off pretty damn stable, did my pratice touch. Got the dock right away. Turned the next point. Then the next! I did start to have a bit of a turn but it never got too bad and was corrected. Under canopy I quickly found the stall point and did pratice flares to get ready for the landing. Even the canopy stuff just came right back. I did another jump later in the day. Then ended the day with Beer. Couldn't have gone better!

I sure hope so. Getting my stuff ready... Helmet Altis (is three too many) Jumpsuit Beer logbook Think Im good!! A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

So Tomorrow is the day... I'm finally going to get back in the sky after a four year layoff. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. Anyway I grab my jump suit to get it ready for tomorrow and money falls out. 10 Bucks!! I take this as a blessing from the skydiving gods and a sign that tomorrow will go well. At least thats what I'm gonna tell my self. Just thought I'd share A thunder of jets in a clear blue sky, a streak of gray and a cheerful "Hi"

NASA's LRO just sent back images of the Apollo landing sites. Seems to be very appropriate that they released these during the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11! I wasn't alive back then. But Dammit it would have been amazing to watch it live! oh Yeah...
