You're right, there's more to this sport than jump numbers. Getting your AD license could be one goal. You can never take enough canopy control courses. Maybe Crew Time. There's always something to learn. Just keep jumping and having fun without putting it on the credit card.

You need to use your legs more. Head down is all legs and if you are sore in your arms, you're using them too much. Also, If you're rigid in the arms you will not be able to take grips.

I have a 99 Jav and it's great for freeflying. Has bridle cover and reserve tuck tab. Nice riser protection. No complaints

A good friend of mine had tension knots on a small Jedei. He's a videographer so it was all on video. His canopy was defintely diving to the right. Before he cutaway, you can see the left riser come in front of the camera and then disappear to the right.

Container Lock/PC in Tow - Malfunction (pic)
matttrudeau replied to jmfreefly's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've never seen anything like that before. I have no idea how that could have happened without a lot of intentional force being applied to it. The only reason I can think of is the packer wedged the pin in very tight and just closed it up. If this is the case, someone should have caught it during pin checks. Crazy! -
She's great with it now. She jumped this weekend and she loved it. She got a little motion sickness under canopy though. I want her to write another article now that's she done it.

Hello everyone, just wanted to share an article my girlfriend wrote about skydiving. She wrote it before she made her first jump this weekend. Interesting perspective. Cheers! Thanks for reading..

You're definitely a weekend warrior, that's for sure. I would go to the Gold Coast in Lousiana. We have two guys up here from there and they said it's a great place. Plus they have a twin otter. Nothing like a little southern hospitality.

There's no way you could go a weekend without jumping?
-
I've been getting similar openings. Usually, it starts inflating fine and then once it opens fully it will surge one way or the other. I'm pretty sure my legs are apart and i'm causing it. I have had a couple that gave me one hell of a ride, about two 360's. I think I just need to leave the canopy alone while it opens and keep my feet together.

I know! She says she's broke but she's jumped and traveled more than anyone I know and it will only continue. If that's what you call "broke" count me in.

That's great. It feels good to help someone and see them so happy and excited when they get down. That's what keeps this sport going. Imagine what it's like for people that do that everyday.. You can sort of understand why people do it for a job. They don't do it for money, they do it for that feeling you had this weekend.

My airline trip with carryon gear...
matttrudeau replied to SkySlut's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Most of the time when I travel with my rig everything is fine. There was one time flying out of Melbourne, Florida where I had all my carry on luggage opened and inspected, except for my parachute. They asked me I could open that too and I said no. If you play dumb and answer with very short yes and no responses you'll be better off. If you start talking and describing all the gear it will just make things worse. I will always carry my rig on the airplane. Thank god for the USPA! Just remember to remove your hook knife. I forgot to remove it once but it went through the scanners! I got on the airplane and realized what I had done. Oh well! Remember to keep your mouth shut and don't give them any more reason to scrutinize you! They're just trying to let you hang yourself. -
Why aren't there any head up world record formations?(Sit and Stand records) Are they out there, already been done, or is everyone just focusing on large head down formations?
-
We would be good together because we could just feed off each other in the air. People like us mostly jump with more experienced people all the time. Instead of just learning, we could teach a little to each other and have fun. By the time I get to Sebass we'll both be doing great. I never thought I would want winter to get here. Just trying to be patient. Plus you can jump my Jav. And I guarantee you I won't bring a winter coat with me. 60 degrees is warm for me. I guess I'll have to keep you warm.
-
You know I'd be your partner if I could. We would be great together in the sky. I went headdown through a cloud for the first time yesterday. Very strange, but way cool. You just need a bud! I rarely jump alone now and thankfully, I have some really experienced people who have no problem doing a two way for fun. It's going to be hard though to find someone who can keep up with Sunnydee. She's been jumping her butt off all summer. See you in December though. :)

It's True! Most people have been taught that the line stows slow down the opening but they have nothing to do with that. It's just not their purpose. That's what the slider is for. Jumping without a slider could kill you at terminal, jumping without lines stows and you won't even notice a difference.
-
You won't get hard openings just because this bag has no line stows. The line stows on a normal D bag just keeps the bag from spinning off your back they don't have a huge impact on opening speed. Those little rubber bands won't slow down a 120mph plus opening. All I know is that it works and it will be in production soon. If you want more info from the Sunpath, contact Aggie. aggie@sunpath.com

I've seen it in use already at our dropzone. Mike Swanson from Alchemy is jumping it. I guess it works great with the right size canopy in the right size bag. They're still testing it before they put it into production. So far, so good. I wonder if it could eliminate the chances of a bag lock?
-
Since your jumping a Sabre2 170, stuffing it in the bag shouldn't give you any trouble. Don't do it on purpose but it's nothing to worry about. If it was a high performance canopy you want a much nicer S-Fold going in. Like I said, do your best and if you have to stuff a little it's OK. I mean, what do you expect, the canopy is brand new?
-
It will be interesting when this all pans out, how many bad pins are out there..
-
I tested mine just to be sure. My container was made in 1999 but the owner before me had one cutaway. I didn't know whether or not he kept the cutaway handle. It should be on the reserve repack card, but I'm not going to trust some piece of paper with my life. I don't need to be thinking about things like that when I'm jumping.

Now I have to decide between Infinity and Wings
matttrudeau replied to badlock's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'm surprised to hear that. Although, I have seen Mirages and Wings main flaps open too. So I guess no rig has a rock solid main flap. -

I bet you've never seen an Odyssey main flap open though.. -
You're right. It might end up being so expensive that I would be better off selling my container and buying the Odyssey. I personally don't have problems, "Knock on Wood" with my riser covers or main closing tab. I know somebody who does and I just want to know what to do if It starts happening to me.
