Yep. crashed 10 days after I left it. Thats a new record (last time it crashed after 4 days), but I think I'll install windows XP and see if i can get it a little more reliable. My roommate will get back on the 18th and I could have him restart it. The problem then becomes that he would have full access to my computer, and well, I dont trust him. I caught him (through a log file) sending himself private files from my computer once. Anyway, if I don't have him restart it, I'll be back to do it myself on the 26th. Anyone tried XP? opinions? Dave

If it is bigger than 3.5 megs, my skydiving videos FTP server will be back online sometime between the 18th and 26th of this month. www.skydivingmovies.com when it's working. Dave

I am not sure what it was he did wrong (you could be right), but I was once lectured for about a half hour about why to avoid him. One thing I was told is he packed malfunctions into 2 reflex reserves within 2 months of each other, both of which could have been fatal if the reserves had been used. Reflexes are his specialty too. He packed my reserve. But hey, if you make the same mistake twice, what are the chances you'll make it again?

Hehehe I knew the guy was famous around the area but I didnt know he had national fame.
-
Last rumor i heard was that he was evicted from the DZ and his house. I dunno about the house part though. I have a cell phone number for him... dunno if it's the same one you tried: 240-535-0531. Let me know if it works cause he ows me a stack of jump tickets and some work on my rig (his old rig). Dave (in search of a new rigger I think...)

There's a group of us at the University of Maryland that jump in the area. Our club's official home DZ is Delmarva so thats where we do most of our jumping. Our members also jump at cross keys and orange, and we'll be making a club trip to parachutes are fun next semester. We bring all of our students to Delmarva though. Interesting. Never heard of bag strip before. The only type of reason I've been given for removing the catapult is things like "what happens when one pilot chute goes on one side of you, and the other goes on the other side during an unstable reserve deployement?" Is that another realistic scenario? David (skydiving movies FTP server went down after being up unattended for 10 days... new record! Might be restarted next week.)

Anything to cover up some of the pink!

Hmm... seems to get stuck on my nose/chin when i try it back side first. The only way it seems to go on is if I get my chin in first and slide the rest over my head. I dunno, I'll figure out the best way with a little more experience I'm sure. David http://www.skydivingmovies.com

finally got a chance to see it. Great job! very cool video. All text was completely readable too, by the way. What in the world did you do to that jumpsuit on AFF 1?

He came close. I have gotten my stealing techniques down pretty good, but I use some "special" software for some of them. If i remember correctly, I need to view the source code of his site to be able to download them. I'll try to get permission. Afterall, his company's name appears on each one. Thats free advertising, right? Actually before he changed his site I did steal all of them. They're just sitting in an invisible folder. Whoever can find it...well...gets to see some cool videos.
-
Thanks Ann. By the way, some of my favorite videos are on that site http://www.martijnvandam.nl/. I have been trying to keep my stealing to a minumum though. I try to rely mostly on other people to do the stealing for me (hint hint). But actually those videos are so good I feel bad taking them without permission. Maybe some time I'll ask Martijn if i can post just a couple of them, like the one with all the diving planes. I think thats about the best video I've seen. I'm away from my server at the moment on a 28.8 modem, so I'll have to wait till I get back to do that. It's been pretty cool running the server so far. One morning at the DZ I heard someone talking about some skydiving clips he got off the net, so i mentioned my server. He looked at me and said "THATS YOU!? Thats where I got them from!" Skydiving sure is a small world, isnt it? It's also cool to get really new videos that were just shot. On 11/18/01, someone uploaded the file cutaway_11-17-01.mpg (http://www.skydivingmovies.com/cutaways/cutaway_11-17-01.mpg). I have no clue who/what/where it was, but thats still pretty cool. Dave

No problem. I'll move the file to a better directory when I get a chance (I'm away from the server right now and my FTP program won't seem to let me move files). For now, here's a working link to it: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/uploads/Arthursjumps.mov. By the way, I cant view it from here. Whats the most appropriate directory for it? /misc/? What about the other files in the uploads directory? Where do they belong? Thanks, Dave
-
Yep, feel free to post it on my server, ftp.skydivingmovies.com (or http://www.skydivingmovies.com). Just upload it to the /uploads directory with a text file with it to give any info you want and give yourself credit. If you want, I'll put it in it's own subdirectory in whichever category it belongs in. See ya, Dave

I got tired of jumping with a protec and "kroops for the blind" as I've heard them called, so I decided to get myself a Z1 (after trying one on with my glasses). I finally got it today, so I havent jumped it yet. I havent quite figured out the graceful way of putting it on yet, but I did make a pleasent discovery which surprised me. I can put it on and take it off without removing my glasses. I assumed I'd have to take them off and I really didnt like the idea of having to do that at 14,000 feet with an open door. Once I get it on, it feels comfortable and secure. I am still a little worried about my glasses fogging up in there. It seems like if I wear it kind of low so my nose isnt covered, it'll be fine. I am a little dissapointed though with the workmanship. It has a lot more flaws than I expected. Nothing major that would get me to send it back, but its definitely not perfect. The paint job has a lot of flaws... bubbles, orange peel, and areas that don't quite shine right and wont wipe off like fingerprints. Also, the Z1 sticker right on the front has a bubble in it. There is some velcro glued inside to hold the liner on. It sticks up too far on the side of the chin, so a bit of the glue covered backing is exposed. More of the velco seems to be a little out of place around the mouth which is visible through the opening, along with a long thread sticking out. Oh well, Maybe the blemishes will take away from my pink rig.

Wow, glad to know I could (sorta) help! Thats about the nicest compliment i've ever gotten about my site. Oh, by the way, the site may be going down for a while within the next few days. I'll be leaving the server unattended for a while and it tends to crash after about 4 days. Hopefully it'll stay up longer than that though, now that I know it's a motivator to heal!

Wow, the day after i asked the question, Bomber redid their website with a price list for replacement parts. http://www.bombermfg.com. Guess they're listening! Anyway, I guess i'll wait till my reserve repack to get it done. Thanks for the info. David http://www.skydivingmovies.com

Anyone know about how much it would cost to have a rigger change the main flap and the pop top of a Reflex? Pink just isn't my color... Can it be done easily (with at least the reserve packed)?

...and this one's a real pic i took of a high altitude jump... uhhhhh....yeah....

The blurriness used to be weird but ya get used to it. :-) David

Oh I like that beer rule. I owe soooo much, that might help make up for some of it. :-) By the way, I now own http://www.skydivingmovies.com which will forward you to the ftp server at ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com. 58,000 files, 315 gigs downloaded. Happy downloading. Sign the guestbook. (Or be banned for life) Upload. Don't Sue. (Or be banned for a week)

Here's mine. The background was taken by a friend of mine over our school (University of Maryland) while i was flying. The skydivers were cut out of another picture. I put it all together and "motion blurred" the background in Photoshop.

My ftp server has a new URL: ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com or http://www.skydivingmovies.com will forward ya there. At last count, the server has about 700 something videos, or about 4.something gigabytes. Happy Downloading. Don't Sue. Upload. Check out Craig Poxon's videos. He bought me the domain name. He is very very cool. David

I noticed it was mentioned before (thanks PhreeZone!), but I thought I'd just mention it again. My FTP Server 'o videos is online at ftp://129.2.156.19 (or http://129.2.156.19). I've got somewhere around 700 videos, or 4.5 gigabytes of them. Last week I had my 200th gigabyte downloaded. Thats over 36,000 files. If you like it, please sign the guestbook while you're there! Have fun!
