  1. He wasn't happy, but followed my instructions to the letter. He was really shaken after we landed though. White as a sheet, and didn't get up for about 10 min. Don't you love that adrenaline hangover? I posted it in incidents. Maybe if you did a search for Tandem double malfunction you'd find it. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. I had my double mal and sorted it. Glad it wasn't a total. I should be fine for a while now... t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. A man, being interviewed by telephone on the morning of his 60th wedding anniversary, said, " Hang in there. The first 50 years are the worst. After that, it gets to be a habit." Does it matter if it ends in 2, or 15 or 26 or 42 years time? Surely what matters is the quality you share with someone NOW? If now can be sustained through all of life's pain and change - the reward is each and every second you share with the person you love. But you have to try. t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Just had a look at the G4 Owners manual. (It's downloadable off their website) On page 18 there are directions for adjusting the elastic lumbar support. The buckle is behind the backpad channel. I feel like such a geek. I'm reading the manual before my rig gets here... t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. I guess those temps are Farenheit, and your concern is the cold? t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. Unless your rig is already smaller than your back, in which case they're pointless, and can be quite uncomfortable under canopy. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. I try and keep rubber away from webbing. It seems to accelerate wear on the nylon. I'm not a rigger, but I've been around for a while and I've seen "convenience" require replacement of some major components on a harness. I'd imagine risers are no different. t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. Dude. Men stand in a line-up, like "the usual suspects." Women choose. You're in the line-up already. Ever notice how many women say "Have some self confidence!" but will never make the 1st move? It's not lack of confidence - It's fear of rejection from the line-up before she makes up her mind. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. I completely destroyed a femur hooking it in. Everything between the 2 joints was just splinters. Same story as Mick. Wait another day - Wait another day. It took 10 days on antibiotics before the trauma had reduced to the point they could operate to reconstruct the femur. When I got out of hospital - I was told I'd be on crutches for a year - but managed to reduce that to 8 months. Had the plate out after 14 months - then another 6 weeks not jumping. I was quite mad, of course, since I only stopped jumping for 6 weeks after the break, and the 6 weeks after the plate was removed. I was scared in the door, I was scared on the ground. Only peace I ever had was in the air. I worked for me though, since I've done 3900+ injury free dives since then. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. I don't like buying new. I like to test jump - and then buy the demo I used. Most times, demo's are for sale. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. No Rounds at JSC.... Those days are gone! And there's not enough nostalgia to bring them back! t It's the year of the Pig.

Interesting - since you've listed PISA gear in your profile... t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. ISO 9001 is a business management system. There is not a single ISO technical quality requirement. The company defines what it does, and then does what it defined unless a better way is found, which generates a revision change. What ISO 9001 does mean, is that if you have a problem with the product, a very clear path exists for the company to satisfy the client once they complain. Of course, if that problem is not survivable, then someone would need to submit the complaint on your behalf, due to the nature of their product. t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. Ah. OK then. It's all about yardsticks. I was happy that I fell slower "drougless" on a rodeo with a 100lb pax, than on a Tandem with my 50lb daughter with a drouge. I certainly don't want to do a Tandem Birdman. Just interested in the theory. My conclusions are WRT fallrate Birdman = slow Birdman rodeo, FS, Tandem with drouge = normal Drougeless tandem, freefly = fast Would a tracker be able to stay with a Birdman rodeo do you think? y It's the year of the Pig.
  15. Are you saying the Javelin is French? I had no idea they were French. Just as well I never ordered one. I don't want a rig made by those Saddam Hussein supporting bastards - and I'll take freedom fries with that Big Mac Mirage! It's the year of the Pig.
  16. Thanks for the info. PM'd you. t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. Really? I jump a Stiletto 107 loaded to 1.8, and my front riser turn to swoops are one finger only. Canopy is in trim, 30 jumps after reline. Does airspeed increase forces, or is it the g's increasing the riser pressure in a turn? t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. The reasoning - to me at least - follows the same line as the "Why ripcord and convert to BOC? Why not BOC?" We don't stay on Student canopies. We progress. So why not learn to use those canopies while we're learning everything else. People shoot arrows at pioneers. AFF was considdered lunatic fringe 25 years ago. On canopies alone I've seen this debate on several fronts over the years like - 1. 500 round jumps before you can jump a square 2. Square parachutes are no good for 1st jumpers 3. Round reserves vs. square reserves 4. Five cell vs. 7 cell 5. 7 cell vs. 9 cell We've passed all those points, and now we accept you can jump a square first, have a square reserve and most people jump 9 cells. In the future we may see 9 cell vs. xbraced. People are learning faster than they were, and are killing themselves in different ways. We'll need to address those risks in a variety of ways (canopy courses, training 1st jumpers on faster canopies etc) before a trend develops which will be proven less flawed than others. It's true evolution - but its happening very fast. t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. I've been jumping 19 years, and as you know - shit happens. I've told my parents about all my mals. "Yes, I had one, cut away, pulled reserve - safe as usual!" I didn't tell them about my tandem reserve mal. I don't think hearing about reserve mals would help them much. I only tell skydivers about things I consider "hectic" t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. Remember also that if the line serves it purpose, and allows recovery of the knife, that you will be pulling a hooked blade towards you - probably across your harness at some point. A second knife will be available sooner, and safer than the 1st recovered in this manner. I must agree with the sentiment that tieing things to yourself or your harness is silly. First, if you have one knife, don't drop it. Second, if you do, use the next one. The question, "Why do you have 4 hook knives!?!" can best be answered "Cos I couldn't find place for a 5th.." t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. I claimed nothing of the sort. On the contrary, I stated that speed of production is not indicative of poor quality. When an item gets a name though, like "Spinetto" "Hitwave" or "Unravlin" it usually gets it for a reason. My desision not to go with Sunpath was based on the 21 week delivery time, and my answer was based on the thread title. I did mention that I am partisan, did I not? I don't care how product loyal you are. If I go to a restaurant, and am told I can only be served in 4 hours, I go elsewhere. I think 4 hours is unacceptably long to wait for any meal. I feel the same way about 21 weeks for any rig. An active jumper at our DZ ordered her Odysey in February, and took delivery in November. She did around 800 dives in the time it took to build that rig. She's happy it's here, and it looks good, and she didn't need it "yesterday" as she has several rigs - but she was still not overjoyed by the wait. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. Yes? No? Perris web address? Contact details? Thanks, t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. Bump. Also posted to general - even though to purists, the tunnel is not skydiving... t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. As usual, I'm confused, and partisan. If you're talking about Jav - Agreed! If you're talking about Mirage... There are 2 consistant complaints I hear about the G4. 1. It's ugly as sin. (Beauty is in the eye of the beholder) 2. It's over built/over engineered (Which makes your comment sound odd.) How much time they spent building, and how much time they spent inspecting depends on the size of their staff, how many shifts they run and a multitude of other variables - all of which will affect their overheads. Maybe it looks "ugly" or "blocky" cos they thought about how to build it most practically. Many companies get around that by charging for a rush delivery instead of building it into the price. As for speed of production for any product goes... A BMW 5 series is built in under 9 hours. F1 engines are rebuilt in hours, along with brain surgery and other more mundane tasks. Short time does not mean poor quality. 21 weeks. That's 105 working days. Thats 840 hours at 8 hours a day. Thats Bullshit if you think it takes that to build them. Your order probably sits there for 20 weeks first. I've heard of "unravlin Javlins" I've not heard of "malfunctioning Mirages" t It's the year of the Pig.
