  1. Crusties: Like "crusty" old people in retirement homes Crusties conjours up the image of wrinkled and weather beaten faces. Similarly, misshapen legs and pelvises from trauma and poor orthopaedic work lends itself to the wobbling gait of the earlier baser's. With respect (and I don't think anyones ever jumped that bridge again....)
  2. Maybe your mates can see something you can't. Maybe you think you can comfortably pull something off, but everyone else can't. Sometimes a bit of feedback is a good thing :-) I had a friend who thought he could pull something off. He couldn't and died as a result. Loud and aggressive feedback might be a good thing.... peace
  3. Rene, is that the horrible dutchman that was with Ferry in LB at Easter? Mate, sorry to hear that you have busted yourself. Get better. I will be back in the valley for a couple of weeks end Mar/early April. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet and jumping. Play safe, Neil :-)
  4. I guess if we had 3 fingers on each hand, and used base 6 as our counting system, then base 666 would be our base 342. Given that I have never met 342 I'd hazard a guess to say his names "Bob" his Mom's called Sally (and so is his sister) and lives in the deep South. God Bless America

Neil Age: 38 Height and weight: 175lb 5'10lb Birthplace: Mother England but escaped to the colonies when I was 2 Marital status: hook, line and sinker. Occupation: Pharma industry marketing Hobbies: B.A.S.E., scuba, surfing, reading (like 20hrs a week, mainly classical history). Harness and container: Vertex Parachute: Fox 240 Home dropzone: any foreign country but NZ. Records or awards: Med Research Council award for junior scientist 1988 Pet peeves: violence, unco-ordinated drivers, queuing, salt in my food and trendy lefty liberals who think you can rehabilitate criminals (shoot the f*ckers I say)! Religious Zealots of all persuasions. What is your favorite quote? ...The only time you should look down on someone is when you are giving them a hand up (Martin Luther King or Ali-I forget). or "They asked for it" Julius Caesar after looking at the carnage following Pharsalus during Roman Civil war. What is your philosophy on life? The clocks always ticking, you have to cram all the experiences in whilst you still draw breath. What is something most people don’t know about you? The Drs thought I was retarded when I was born. My mother thinks they are still correct. Who has inspired you in BASE-jumping? Easy. Saw an old documentary when I was about 16 that was called the 'Human Fly.' I think it featured an Aussie called Nick F. Even though it wasn't until 1989 when I did my first base jump, that was the catalyst (the 2nd was 11 yrs later) What is your most memorable BASE jumping moment? Easy-there's 3 of them. (1)Wingsuit from Eiger carring ashes of a deceased base'r, (2)standing on top of a building in Auckland, hucking only to land next to the police and ambulance crew who had been attending a fight between 2 large homies. I landed in the middle of it all and started to walk away...heh, heh. (3) Xmas eve-up a tall object in AZ with some friends in the freezing cold. Xmas has a new meaning Describe Neil in five (+1) words or less: Skinny legs, can't sing. I BASE jump because… Its unconventional and gets me out of the house (and country..)
  6. I get in on Sep 25 for 2 weeks, based at Valley Hostel. Shout out if you wanna play! Neil
  7. Wow, if most people carry their baggage in a back pack, it seems as if you needed a small freight train! Just kidding :-) Glad to hear life is treating you well, and yes I have some fond memories of a road trip a few years back... play safe Neil
  8. Being one of the few kiwi jumpers, Duane and I had exchanged emails before actually meeting. The first time we met, we flicked a quick 2-way from the waterfall, geeked in freefall and had a general yahoo. We knocked off a few more jumps, had a beer then went separate ways. Only a few weeks back we had been in email contact again with the plan to hook up in LB, unfortunately work commitments kept me in NZ. Deepest sympathies to DTs wife and familiy. He was a nice guy. Neil
  9. Hey Nick the "cancer switch" actually exists and is termed an oncogene This may be a bit simplistic but essentially you have hit the nail on the head. Back to the medical journals....and dreaming of gainers....
  10. The coffin and serious injury are good ways to finish your base career. Has anyone else set themselves goals-objectives, and once completed thought they would retire gracefully? I did and thought I wouldn't do a 100, 2 years later I thought the bug would be cured and I hit 200. Hmm a few more different objects and 300 could be approaching. When do you stop (even if you keep enjoying what you do)?
