  1. Damn near quit two years ago when a hard opening (i.e., two seconds) knocked me unconscious. Pulled at 3500, open at 3499, woke up at 1700 having no idea where I was or what I was doing. Some long, hard thinking afterwards. I knew a guy who was packing when he noticed that one of his links was all the way open and bent severely so that his lines were a miracle from falling off one riser. Left his gear on the packing mat and never came back as far as I know. There are a jillion reasons for quitting. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." 3. When I was rated as a coach I was lucky if my student even saw me in free fall. Now that I can fly a bit, I can't "coach" because I have let my rating lapse. (And unless it is free, it will stay lapsed.) Ridiculous "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." 4. My thoughts exactly. I get bored out of my mind with RW. Why do they call it "work"? Not the way I want to spend my time relaxing at the DZ. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  5. Atheism is a belief, no more or less than religious faith. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  6. Also, there is no such thing as Judeo-Christian values. If the New Testament is to be believed, these religions are opposed to each other. Jesus' "Father in Heaven" (who is nameless) is the opposite of Jehovah, who describes himself as "a jealous god." "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." 7. Had the USA been founded as a Christian nation it would have a socialist government. (And not the creeping socialist government that we have today.) "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. 8. Many new jumpers who downsize too quickly find out, perhaps on a gusty or no-wind day, that they were too hasty. This leads to "gear fear" which leads to stopping jumping altogether. Don't be one of them. Buy used and wear that sucker out. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." 9. Great! Now I feel like a real girly man! LOL

    Safire 3

  12. I think I had more than the normal amount of fear until jump 7 of the AFF course. After that, I had the normal amount of fear! Even now I sometimes get worried on the way to altitude, but now, when I open the door, I am eager to get out. Also, like many jumpers, I get a little nervous in the plane after a layoff of a month or two. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Safire 3

Just got my Safire 3 169 (WL about 1.2) and it is terrific! I wrote a review for it but it hasn't been validated yet. It is as good as advertised. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Safire 3

As advertised, my Safire 3 has a long snivel (better open a little higher!), but they are as smooth as silk and on heading despite my pathetic efforts to get it in the bag. I've packed my own chute over 1000 times and, as with any new canopy, I still have a challenge getting it packed. On one jump I just balled the whole thing up and literally shoved it into the bag. (I do not recommend this, of course). Still had a beautiful opening. Toggle responce is excellent, and the landings are way fun, easy to swoop it even at my light (1.2) WL. Very satisfied. I've owned two Spectres, a Lightning, a Storm and two Pilots. The Safire 3 is the best by far.
  15. Thanks to everyone who replied. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  16. Wings pilot chutes are garbage, IMHO. At least the one that came with my rig was. (I ended up throwing it away.) I've had many, many "pilot chute in tow" mals on high clear and pulls, one for 3000 feet, (9500 to about 6500). None since I got my Precision pilot chute. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. 17. I think the problem might have been solved by doubling the stows as mentioned in several PD videos. I've addressed all the issues you mentioned. Thank you for your input. John mentioned in one of the videos that he thought an F-111 pilot chute is best, but I've never seen one for sale. I'm putting together a second rig, so I thought I'd get one if they are available. 18. I have read that a 26-28" F-111 main pilot chute (kill line type) is best. Who sells them? Are they, in fact, the best, especially for slow openings? (I'll be using it in a Wings container with a 169 Safire 3.) Currently I have a Precision pilot chute, 28". It is ZP. I've had two hard openings, once knocked out for a minute or so, and another time stunned so that I couldn't use my arms for a while, then some numbness for several days. (That one was definitely a packing error on my part, but the first one was a normal pack job and deployment. Both with a Pilot main.) Trying to cover all the bases so that it doesn't happen again! 19. My Storm 150 opened better than my Pilot, but I could never land the damn thing! "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  20. Bullshit. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  21. Thanks to all who answered my question. The information I had was not at all accurate. "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  22. fifteen years and still pack like a rookie. No mals in 1000+ jumps. I think packing is over rated. (I still wish I could pack better, though.) "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  23. I agree. Also on that list was a Lightning. Wut??? "Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." Charles Fort, commenting on the many contradictions of astronomy
  24. Didn't the Air Force Academy have a controversial jump program, where a cadet would make his or her first jump as a free fall jump without an instructor? Do they still do that?
