  1. Usually im up at 4:50, at the gym by 5:15, back home for breakfast/shower etc by 6:15, leave for work at 7:15, at work by 08:00. Argh!! Getting up early sux.
  2. Nothing all weekend. Too windy And just to make it worse,...the weather is perfect today!!
  3. Glad you're having a good time. Sounds like eloy is an awesome dz. Me and a friend will be there at the end of March for a few days for the first time. Cant wait!! We probably wont want to leave iether. (Except we'll be coming all the way from South Africa).
  4. I deffinitly agree with PJ. Small groups (2ways and at a push then a 3way if you have a well planned jump) are the way to go. If you plan a specific jump on the ground with a few moves/docks etc that you want to complete in the dive, I think you'll learn much more than being in the sky with 4 other freeflyers just messing around. Just my opinion, but its definitly worked for me. If I think back honestly, all the freefly jumps ive been on bigger than 2/3 ways ive ended up using the skills I already had but didnt learn anything new. (other than awareness of where everyone else is which is critical). But on most 2/3 ways I end up being able to learn something new, however small it is. good luck, cheers
  5. Actually the difference stands in the way Java and C/C++ code gets translated into machine code to be executed by the CPU. Java has only one compiler that works on any platform and only translates Java code into Java Virtual Machine code (also called bytecode) and then the platform-specific part is in the form of an interpreter. Thus, the same java code will have exactly the same results on any platform because the low-level part (the bytecode) will be the same. C/C++ on the other hand needs different compilers for Windows and Unix, and each compiler has its peculiarities, so the same C/C++ code might have plenty of bugs on one machine and work perfectly fine on the other. What C/C++ offers is access to some more low-level operations, so it lets you tweak more subtle things like you could do with an assembly language. Java keeps itself as a much more higher-level language. Haha, I love being a techie/programmer We're always fighting to make sure we are 100% correct and make sure each word has its purpose, or we'll soon find another programmer proving us wrong. But yes, you're absolutely correct.
  6. Actually, c++ is not only used for windows and it is most definitly not platform specific. You just need to avoid using the windows API's when coding. Java might have started out as only being used on the internet but its grown far beyond that. You'd be hard pressed to try and code something in c++ that cant also be done in Java (im talking about the whole functionality of the program, not slight differences like Java not using pointers in the same way as c++ etc). Anyway, to the op, hope you find what you are looking for.
  7. Id want one ticket to Arizona so I could do some tunnel time at Eloy. Then id want one to California so I could do a whole bunch of skydives at Skydance. Damn that would be cool. Oh wait,...ive already got those tickets Leaving 23rd March. The waiting is killing me. Its going to be awesome.
  8. :6:3 Did two coached headdown jumps on saturday and finally I think im making some progress. I managed to fall straight down the tube but couldn't slow down. But damn, it was an awesome feeling. Then I did a few other freefly jumps which were all cool.
  9. Plus, not only flying on your back but being able to track properly on your back is awesome. Nothing better than being on a tracking dive flying on your back
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I have a lot to think about. Ive pm'd Aubrey so hopefully ill get a reply soon. I really didnt know about the whole dbag thing, but after hearing all of you ill definitly keep my current dbag if it turns out that I can use the 119. I really want to get a 119 instead of something bigger. So if its really going to be unsafe I might have to consider selling the container.
  11. I know that the recommendations from container manufacturers regarding their canopy sizes is a guidline. So is it possible to go slightly larger or slightly smaller on any given container/canopy combination? As I mentioned in another thread im probably going to get a Safire2 119 in the 'nearish' future. But im jumping an Icon I4 which according to Aerodyne should have a main canopy between 132 - 150 in it. Do you think putting a 119 in it will be a problem other than having to make the closing loop tighter? And getting a new dbag. Has anyone done something like this before? Any problems? My next investment after a new canopy will be a new container, hopefully a mirage. But that is not going to happen any time soon. cheers
  12. Yup, it rocks!! Im a few shows behind but I have them on my computer and will listen to them as soon as I have time. Keep it up
  13. I was definitly very annoyed but once they got organised and were running the kingair, porter and dc3 together,....things got better. Looking back I did some fun jumps but nothing near the sort of stuff I was planning. The no tail gate planes issue is a big one for most people, who would not have come to the boogie at all if they new the ANT would not be there. Overall I did have a lot of fun,...but it was out of aircrafts which I jump everyweekend anyway. The only nice thing was the extra altitude. If I knew what the boogie would be like before I went,...I probably would have skipped it altogether. Or I would have just done the Brian Germain Canopy coarse which im kicking myself for not doing.
  14. Ok, thanks for the advice. I think ill start looking around to see if I can put a few jumps on a 135. Then closer to the time ill start demoing the smaller safires if anyone at my dz has one I can try.
  15. Im actually quite interested in the Icarus Safire2. So it would probably iether be a 129 or a 119. What do you think?
  16. Yes, its yet another downsizing thread. Just a bit of info about my current situation,... I weigh about 165 out the door and jump a 150 pilot at the moment. So my wingloading is 1.1. I have 350 jumps now. I have been on a canopy piloting coarse at my dz and am currently reading Brian Germain's book, 'The Parachute and its Pilot'. Im basically just trying to get as much info as I can about canopy piloting so when I get my new canopy it will be the correct one for me. Im quite a small guy and in comparison to most other people at my dz im at a very low wingloading for my jump numbers. But im happy that ive been jumping my 150 for so long because I feel that I know it quite well now and have benifited from not downsizing even though im quite light and some people are surprised when I tell them im jumping a 150. I think I am going to finally have saved enough money for a new canopy by about June. By that time I will probably have just over 500 jumps. The logical choice would obviously be to downsize to a 135, but do you think getting a 120 would be possible? Or is that a stupid idea? I was playing around with the idea of maybe borrowing a 135 for a while if possible. Then when ive got enough money for my new canopy, getting a 120 (or there abouts). On the 135 my wingloading would be 1.22 and on the 120 it would be 1.37. Im just throwing around ideas at the moment, and ill be speaking to the experienced canopy pilots at my dz. Any advice? edited - Sorry, i just realized this should probably be in the gear forum? Could a moderator please move it.
  17. Ok, well I think im going to contact the airline and get a price for how much per extra kg ill have to pay for carryon which is over 7kg. Just to get a figure. Then ill just try and carryon my rig anyway but at least if they stop me then I can pay the extra amount if its not too much.
  18. Ive been wondering the same thing. Im planning on taking my camera helmet,...so its even bigger than a normal helmet. Not sure yet what im going to do.
  19. Ive searched through many threads about how to travel with your rig. Almost everybody sais that you should carry it on with you. Well ive checked a few airlines and they all seem to have a carry on weight limit of about 7kg. (South African Airways for example). Well my rig weighs about 10.5kg. There is no way its going to pass for 7. So are most of the other airlines in other countries different to those here? Do you arrange ahead of time for a sporting allowance of some sort? Judging by the threads ive read it seems everyone has super light 7kg rigs...
  20. Great, thanks for the info! I cant wait for March
  21. Reading this post it could have been me posting it. My team and I are also planning on coming to the US end of March (from South Africa). We are planning on going to Eloy first to do some tunnel time but it seems so expensive to do coaching jumps there that Skydance seems like a much better option. There will probably be 4 of us coming, my team plus a friend coming along for the ride and a few fun jumps. Our only concerns are that there is no jumping on mondays or tuesdays. Seems like we will be jumping the PAC so thats cool. Dont really want to come all the way from South Africa to jump a 182 the whole time We'll also only be coming for about 2 weeks so if the dz is closed on 4 of those days it doesnt leave us with much time. We should be able to time it so we only get there on wednesday, by spending a bit more time at Eloy. But ill email Skydance to ask about all this stuff. Oh, and what sort of altitude do you guys get at skydance? 12.5k? That would be awesome since my home dz only gets 11k. Canuck, pm'd you.
  22. I have worked in telesales and as a telemarketer. Although working as a telesales person actually requires a lot of work and puts you under a lot of stress. Especially if your salary is comission based. But telemarketing on the other side was a breeze. I just sat there and if people were willing to spare a few minutes on the phone I read questions to them off my computer screen and typed in their answers. Not exactly rocket science. Standard hourly rate. Hmmm, I miss those days. Work these days definitly requires more brain power
  23. Great, ive downloaded it but havn't listened to it yet. But I was kind of hoping that you would chat to him about freeflying like you mentioned you might do during the first BrianG show. Is that still a possibility for the future?
  24. I only freefly. And enjoy the occasional tracking dive (does that count as a discipline). Ive just been fascinated by freeflying since the first time I saw a flyboys dvd. There's just soooo much to learn and it takes a long time to get good. I may give RW a serious try some time in the future, but up untill this point it just hasn't interested me.
  25. Thanks peej. Ill go have a look. Sounds like that's a bit out of my price range, but worth a look.
