  1. Tuesday? Uhhh, now I know why 'Boom' is looking for a car You can get to Aerograd using public transport, but it won't be comfortable. I'd like to share the ride, but can't miss my working days and, you know, BASE festival is going to be on Thursday and Friday here in Moskow (Ostankino tower) See you at the DZ this weekend! Look for the rig with 'Dancing Flame' words
  2. June is coming to an end, but showers are still cold and construction is in progress. DZO says it will be finished in the first half of July. Wind Tunnel is not ready yet Some problems with cooling the engine, AFAIK. It may take a long time to fix that. 3rd party insurance is not required. I doubt that European insurance valid in Russia. You can get it at Aerograd or in Kolomna, but it will take some time. Invitation from the DZ should be enough, but you better consult with consul Roman and Andrew always answer the e-mail. May be, some of your letters were lost in the depths of the Internet Feel free to PM me and post here any information you may find useful in my letters.
  3. This is one of the reasons why I would not recommend to skip a size. It is always a bad idea... Your wingload on a 150 will be at about 1.27, but you've never done a HP landing. Then why downsize?
  4. Uh... That might be a problem. Better dig some information, or it may turn out that customs take out your beer (and drink it!) Being honest, 30 cans will be enough for a half of the night, but after 2-3 cans one can hardly find difference between Slovenian and Russian beer
  5. Hooknswoop did it better than I could. I can't say for all Pilot canopies, but Pilot-132 Aubrey brought to Aerograd definitely has oversteer, while my Safire or Spectres I accidentally jump do not have oversteer. However, I should say Pilot is really great canopy. Aubrey, thank you for your demo tour!
  6. Cobalt is fully elliptical canopy. I would not recommend it to you. As I see, you're jumping at Aerograd Kolomna. So, ask Roman Lednev or Sergey Kodintsev, they will explain why you won't be allowed to fly a Cobalt.
  7. I've just received stepper ring (25->37mm), manufactured by Raynox. Tiny plastic ring costs me $15 Wide angle lens (Sony VCL-0637) with HC-40 looks fat and ugly
  8. That's what I was going to tell. Pilot has very decent glide ratio. However, I dislike Pilot's oversteer.
  9. So do I ! Great camera, microscopic size and weight. And it has manual white balance - at last, Sony did it! However, I haven't found a d-box for it yet. Please, be so kind to tell us, if you find it !
  10. PM me, I can be a good guide here in Russia Uhh. I'll never understand, why speaking of Russia one is thinking of vodka . I'm sure russian people drink no more that european. Hope to see you here
  11. You won't be the only foreigner, I'm sure. I've just returned from 3-day-long-weekend, I've never seen that much foreigners at Aerograd before. About 20 people from Denmark, and a lot of other people. On Monday 64 loads were made, more than 1300 jumps a day. Aerograd is going to be a very busy place... What I've found out, one year ago we had 2 team TV's and that was enough. Now, there is 5 video rooms and a big TV screen in one of the packing tents... and all of them are constantly busy! Hmm, are'nt you going to skydive at Aerograd?
  12. I didn't find any difference between 0.9 and 1.0 wingloading. It seems like you are OK to downsize. However, ask your instructor - hw definitely knows more than we do.
  13. Make sure he will do it at Aerograd! Raistlin may want to take you to another DZ That will be a hard trick: drink all the night long and after 4 hours of sleeping return to jumping
  14. I see, July is going to be a pretty busy It would be nice to meet you at Aerograd! If you need help with getting to the DZ, I will be able to help you, just PM me. If Raistlin meets you, tell him you are going ONLY to Aerograd. I know he would like you to jump at another DZ Definitely
  15. I'm pretty sure TRV boxes will not work. HC series camcorders may be split into some categories: TRV-style design (HC-14, HC-15, 30 mm lens), PC-style (HC-20, 30, 40, 25 mm lens) and HC-65/85 (37mm lens thread). HC-14/15 are just a renamed TRV-19 so TRV-style D-Box will fit. HC-20/30/40 are completely different. They are only 10 mm longer than a PC-105, with wide angle lens a bit shorter. Haven't tried it yet, but it seems like PC-style D-box may fit.
  16. So, are you jumping elliptical at 190 jumps? Do not want to be a canopy nazi, but is seems a bit scary...
  17. I did like Pilot too (thanks Aubrey for that chance!) It flew like my Safire, but with greater amount of oversteer. Also, Pilot remembered me that packing matters, and one should pack with care or he could get a hard opening. That will be a hard choice between Sabre2, Safire2 and Pilot... whatever you choose, you won't get disappointed.
  18. First, ask instructor! He knows how you fly and we do not. Then, get a 170 or larger reserve (well, PD163R will work too, it is a 175 actually).
  19. I'm not quade, but I know the answer. Large CCD can accumulate larger amount of light, so, digital amplificatin is not needed. Digital amplification adds noise, and the darker the night, the more noise will be added. For freefall photography/video, there are a lot of light everywhere so you may never notice difference between camcorders/still cameras with different CCD sizes. But in darker areas (inside the plane, for example) difference will be VERY noticeable. It is applicable both for video and photography. CCD size itself does not allow to judge about video quality. More important parameter is the pixel size on the CCD. More pixels, less pixel size on the same CCD. That is why camcorders with 1/4" and 800k pixels may shoot better than 1/4.7" and 1070k pixels.
  20. Small corrections should be done. HC-15 is the new camcorder somewhere between TRV-19 and TRV-22. All of them have 1/4" chip with 800k pixels. HC-15 is a good camcorder to start with. Video quality of HC-15 is the same as TRV-19/22. HC-40 is the TRV-33 in a new shell. HC-40 has 1/5" chip and 1070k pixels (TRV-33 has 1/4.7" and 1070k). Video quality is the same as TRV-33, stills looks very similiar too. But HC-40 has manual white balance feature. That may help a lot. HC-18,20 and 30 are not that good. They have 1/6" chip with 800k pixels, video quality is rather bad when shooting video in the dark. However, when shooting skydiving video, there are always enough light, so thay can be used for freefall video. So, I'm thinking of HC-15 or HC-40 (in a month, after I complete my 200th).
  21. Have you tried Pilot from Aerodyne? Last week Aubrey from Aerodyne brought some Pilot canopies in Russia (Stupino, Kolomna). I've tried Pilot and I was impressed! Really good canopy with excellent flight characteristics. Flies very similiar to Safire, but has a MUCH better glide. It flies FLAT. But when you want to dive, it DIVES. The only disadvantage I've found was great amount of oversteer. After a 360 it wants to turn more (about 45-70 degree).
  22. Hmm... did you try larger slider?
  23. So did I. I pro-pack it and it snivels forever. But, my Safire has vectran lines.
