That's why there are so many people from England jumping at Aerograd Kolomna

Collapsible Pilot Chutes - Unnecessary additional risk?
DancingFlame replied to xavenger's topic in Safety and Training
There is at least one more benefit. Flapping slider causes wear to suspension lines. Collapsed slider causes little-to-no wear. Slider behind the head does not wear lines -
any suggestion for wide angle lens (Rebel XT)?
DancingFlame replied to Kuper's topic in Photography and Video
First of all, just because Zenitar has no 'electric things' your RebelXT will not ERR99 on you. Second of all, Zenitar is a bit thinnerand lighter than Sigma. Third of all, one can boy 4 Zenitars instead of 1 Sigma :) We have at least 4 cameramen with Zenitar lens. All of them are happy with that lens. And I'm going to buy one for myself -
Most DZs in Russia have that rule. No AAD - no jumping.

Well in that case Pro-Track should beep 75 ft lower than usual when helicopter is climbing. But it beeps precisely at 300 meters. Cypres seems to have similiar logic.
-
Hi, Matthew. We had some (3-4) cypres fires and 2 Vigil fires at Kolomna on Mi-8 loads. Everything was OK. Seems like ground effect from helicopter-made airstrem does not confuse electronic devices (like Pro-Track and Cypres).

It's only 2 yrs and 300 jumps. I know people having more that 400 that still land with butt-sliding every jumps.

Do you believe in the mighty powers of the coin?
DancingFlame replied to Vallerina's topic in The Bonfire
Flipping a coin helps a lot. For example, you are thinking of doing something but cannot decide whether do it or not. Use the coin! Choose one side, flip the coin and see the result. If you think 'Yes! That's it!' - you should do what you've planned. If you feel yourself a just a bit disappointed, then DON'T do it. -
Just flip the visor up. Now lense cannot affect anything. I prefer full-face helmets for RW. Even for soft-core RW

WOW! What kind of material this containter is made of?

WL ~1.4 might give fast turns. I can make pretty quick 90's with harness input.

Those times I stayed at hotel there were hot water. And there are at least 3 hotels. Hotel 'Kolomna' is easy to get to, but I wouldn't say its the best choice. I prefer 'Raduzhnaya' (still cheap and very clean, definitely not a hole). Well, actually I'm a bit 'tent fan' so I'm staying at the DZ You can store your gear and other stuff in a special storage room at the DZ (russian name for it sounds funny - 'sharaban' ). It is free of charge. It is open at 8:00 and closed after jumps are over. It is closed through the night. Bunkhouses are still not completely ready. And there are just a few. I wouldn't count on them just because there will be a lot of people. Good news: there are 2 planes (Antonov An-28, LET-410) and a helicopter (Mi-8) at Aerograd!
-
I wouldn't confirm that. I have harness with butt bungee and my canopy (Safire 129 ~1.45) turns perfectly with harness inputs. I would say it depends on how tight you leg straps are. Canopy turns faster when my leg straps are loose.

spin off of the 100 point purity test post....
DancingFlame replied to justaflygirl's topic in The Bonfire
18%. Am I getting old ? -
I would say the same. Or he might do some kind of somersault on opening.
-
Make a thousand jumps more. Then return and say again 'skydiving is safe'. From what I've read skydiver with 80-120 jumps usually over-self-confident. That's one of the most dangerous periods when one thinks he is perfectly safe while he is actually not...
-
Oh, come on. Try some helicopter exitz. I swear even those are not so simple

Will this be a viable jumpship
DancingFlame replied to 2fat2fly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've jumped from two different LET-410 (one of them is at Aerograd Kolomna now) and didn't notice that. But I didn't like the 410. It climbs a bit slower than I would like. Mi8 helicopter is the best -
You are alive and uninjured. You did not injure anybody else. That means you did everything right! However I would try to land under main canopy. It is not overloaded and would have some flare power.
-
Oh yeah, I thought my first lens was from 'original Z1'. But again when I changed it I was amazed how good the REAL original Z1 lens is. It it pricey - US$35 or somewhat around. But it really works. Just try it yourself
-
All problems with full-face helmet lens fogging is due to the wrong lens. Get a good one (anti-fog for Italian ParaSport Z1) and breathe carefully. You'll never see any ice on your lens. I changed my lens last winter and was amazed how things may change.

What jump # did you first land standing up?
DancingFlame replied to Nickkk's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My fist standup was #6. But I was jumping ROUND canopies till my #23 And yes I did two stand-up ladnings with rounds All my landings with ram-air canopies were standups. -
My 1st canopy was loaded at 1.33 and it hurt
DancingFlame replied to xavenger's topic in Safety and Training
No, it is impossible unless you make some really hard control input using toggles. Until you make only gentle and soft inputs, spiralling will not cause line twists. Hit a 'Search' button there are a lot of explanations about this. -
There are a lot of rental rigs there. Rent price is 250 roubles (roughly US $9) per jump. I'm pretty sure you'll have your own gear even prior to jump #100. It's not easy to get a good deal on used gear at Aerograd. Just because it would take some time you might not have.
