Here is my delema.... I bought a used rig (Vector3 - Spectre 210 - Raven-D 218) a while back and while I am thrilled with the Spectre, I would like to change the other parts at some point. The rig fits pretty good considering my body type. I have a weight lifters frame (small waist large chest, broad shoulders) so its a bit tight in the chest and shoulders. This being the case I would like to get a custom container. The other part is the reserve. My rigger does not have a very high opinion of Raven reserves and told me I should get rid of it. After reading some reviews about it here, it seems he was right. He warned of stalling and crummy flair. He also said he has seen them blow up quite a few times. I know they obviously work, just not the type of review I like hearing about my life saver. So, this is my question! What would you spend the money on first? A new PD reserve or a custom container? I am leaning towards the container, but I wanted to know what the rest of you think. Thanks! Oz

Alt: 13,500 Aircraft: Twin Otter Manuever: Tracking and Barrel Rolls Description: Out the door on my back, did a few rolls, saw I was no where near the DZ, pulled high and just made it back. Great long distance ride, crummy spot. Oz

Best of luck to you man. I am glad you decided to stick with the sport. I think its a great idea to keep going at it, and I'd jump with you any time. Oz

That sucks man. Like stated above, use a rigger for the transaction if you cant meet the guy face to face. Its a shame that this is happening as much as it is lately. It shouldnt be happening at all. Get a hold of the police to report fraud. Since you have the acct number of the guy, they should be able to trace it down and find him. Good luck! Oz

I think if you were over here you would be a whining liberal that was never happy with anything done by the president. Its a good thing you are not here and happily in your own country. Does saying that make me an a**hole? I dont care. Your black and white way of looking at things is not worth even discussing. Remember presidents are human, and yes I will vote Bush again. Oz

The theory of shooting to wound is not realistic IMO unless you want to blow a finger off the guy. If I ever shoot at a human being it will be to stop what he is doing right then. I can be assured that will happen with the .45cal by my bed, and 230 grain hydrashocks. I am not going to use a sling-shot to protect my family from an intruder. If that person makes the decision to break in my house and put my family in any form of danger, he will pay the ultimate price. When someone breaks in to a house, they are fully aware of what they are doing, and the consequence. The only time I would not put 3 shots center mass is if it was a kid that was unarmed. There is still a chance for him to do better with his life. If a grown man is in my house, the castle doctrine will take effect, and he will be shot as he should be. Wounded people sue, dead ones cant. In Florida we dont mess around like the liberals in California. Oz

Thanks for the link. I was searching the wrong string. That helps a lot! Oz

Just thought I would see what you all set your audible altimeto go off at as far as altitude and why. I have heard several people at my DZ explain why they have theres set they way they do so I figured I would see where everyone else fits in Oz

Helmets:Bonehead Mindwarp vs. Guner?....any opinions

I jump in shorts and a t-shirt with no problem. I am in Florida so there is someone in shorts just about on every load. As stated above though, you will fall like a brick. If you are a big guy like me, you need a suit just to slow down enough to stay with the group. If I solo, I wear shorts a lot though, comfy. Oz

Hey bro, Most of the time its better to do it as frequent as possible. You can get by doing it once a month but chances are you will be repeting levels that way seeing as you would have forgotten a lot by the next month. Once you have over 50 jumps or so, taking a month or two off is not that big a deal. IMO you learn much better at the beginning doing it with little to no time between. I went right through and did all 8 in 3 days. Loved it and was pretty happy with how it turned out. My buddy did one a month and had to repete a few levels. After that he quit, and came back when he could go right through and passed with ease. He told me it was just that after a month he didnt remember the little things he would have doing it soon after a previous dive. Thats just my experiance with it though, I am sure if you did one a month you could make it also, just harder IMO. RY Oz

Everybody makes mistakes. Instructors are only human. You should know that things happen in this sport and take responsibility for your own life. I can only think of a few situations where I would say the DZ should be sued. None involve a bad spot on a load. And the few all are during a students AFF course like instructors not checking gear. IF you have a license of any kind, you should be on your own guard. Oz

Berries shaved, top trimmed.... thats what works for me personally Oz

I figured thats what they were for, just never looked inside. Thanks! Oz

Hello all, I was just curious to see where / how any of you mount an audible on Gunner helmets? They do not have the flat mount spot on the side like most others so there has to be a few good locations other than that. Any suggestions? Ryan Oz

As stated above it depends on the person. I have 15 jumps and I am just starting to fly a 210 spectre loaded at about 1:19:1 I went through AFF on a 280 then to a 240 for a couple, then a 220 for two more. I just bought a rig and followed my instructors advice. So far I am happy as can be and having a blast. I dont see me downsizing any more for at least a year. Luckily my DZ has a few sizes to try out and get used to aside from the 280sq-ft bus we all use during aff. Good luck with it! Oz

Ever got a bruise like this from leg strap?

As a student, I found pulling my legs up into a sit once the bag was above my head made it a lot nicer. Oz -

I have gotten bruises about 10 times that bad on student gear. I was black and blue all through my groin from a javelin / nav 280 setup and could barely stand to throw the pilot out going through AFF. Sux, but the freefall was worth it... Oz -
I did a tandem jump with a friend that my mother of all people bought for e us one Christmas. I was freaked out the whole way up and as soon as I exited I was in love. Like stated above, I think the story is pretty standard. Went through AFF a month later and here I am... Jumping and lovin it! It is the greatest thing I have ever done. Oz

www.enclave.com is where a lot of people go. I got my Cypres from a guy posting there. Oz

Thats excellent advice, imho... At least give them the chance to earn your business. Sometimes a local dealer can provide extras that an "online" dealer can't - things like free use of demo/rental gear while yours is being built, acting as a "middleman" in a used gear transaction, etc. Up to you to decide if those extras and face-to-face service are worth paying a bit higher prices... and generally the prices aren't that much higher. I agree with the above... Supporting your local gear shop is IMO the best thing to do in most cases. They will be of much more use than a website and be there if you need experienced advice, or help where an email address just cant compare. Ordering some stuff online is not bad, and can save you some money. If you do though, just remember your local dealer for part of the rig. Most local dealers are not that much more expensive, if any. My experience is that my local dealer (skybytch at drop shop) is priced right with the online stores, and I know when I get measured for a jump suit or rig that it will be done right. She also has been a great help when deciding on specific fabrics etc based on what I am doing specifically. Oz
