  1. I'm also an AFF instructor, and my DZ teaches the same way. When I had my chop, that's how I did it and it added no extra time to the cutaway procedures. The only part I skip is looking at the handles. They are always under my boobs, so I can't see them. I have a short torso anyhow, so there's not much room for them to shift. 2. Not at all... your child doesn't have the money to spend, you do. You decide if you cave to your kid's nagging or not. Depending on the age of the child, it's your decision to educate your child regarding financial managment, advertising, appropriate eating/buying habits. Advertisers can spend all day trying to get your kid to nag you. Who cares? It's only a problem if you decide to let your kids make your spending decisions. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. It's only a problem if the parents aren't regulating what their kids watch and if the parents cave to the kids' nagging. Parents who are consistent with what they will and will not let their kids have end up with kids that don't nag. Kids only nag if they have parents that occasionally give in. People don't want to raise their kids any more, they leave it to schools, TV and computers to do it and then wonder why they don't like the results. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. This varies by manufacturer, I believe. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  5. AAaaah, that's where the kitchen hammer comes in handy too... smash garlic I used one for years before I married a guy with a garlic press. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  6. My favorite kitchen tool is a hammer... like the kind you can get at any tool supplier. Mine is a Craftsman. Use it to chop nuts, tenderize meat, flatten a chicken breast.... very useful. I think that was part of why my husband fell for me, when I whipped out that kitchen hammer to chop walnuts to throw into brownie batter Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  7. Wow, you must have the most amazing wife in the history of non-skydiving spouses!! You'll be the envy of every man on the DZ! I've never been to Orange, but have a lot of friends that work and jump there, you'll love them all. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. Shouldn't a greenie be stepping in on your string of personal attacks against me now (I'm kidding... really!) Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. Can I really bump you in the face with my Altimeter??
  10. Yo, Floats18asshole I know it was part of the plan, it just wasn't the wisest plan in the world, my comment was only to improve on the plan to begin with. The loss of altitude awareness is not a good thing, the habit of not tracking is not a good thing either. I'm all for playing with a new canopy, hell, I'll be doing it pretty soon (counting the weeks til my pretty new Sabre 2 is here!!!) Call me, by the way, I have a phone number for you that you might want Besides, I have one hell of an exciting AFF jump to tell you about. It was well beyond sporting. 11. I don't know if he's going or not, but keep an eye out for Larry Rogina... he's an ob/gyn jumper at Chambersburg. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. I wish more riggers (and doctors) had the wisdom to say no when appropriate. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. Ummmm, Strato, your picture titled 3mm shows 3cm. Guys usually overestimate length, not underestimate it Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  14. Thanks for the clarification... it sounded like you weren't providing any beverage to the DZ from that first post. Good for you... first for paying your penalty, and second for standing by your convictions. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  15. Congrats on the second kid though! Chad and I hope to run in to you again sometime. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  16. Hate to break this to you, but beer rules apply to everyone... At least at our DZ, I will let those who stay away from buying/drinking alcohol get away with buying at minimum 3 cases of soda or lots of gatorade to throw in the beer fridge, that way the penalty is paid and the non drinkers get something to drink too. 17. Keep in mind a Sabre and Sabre2 are two completely different canopies. What works for one isn't necessarily right for the other. It doesn't sound like a packing issue here though, sounds more like an altitude awareness hiccup. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  18. The next Reno one I'm planning to hit. Barcelona is not in my financial possibilities. How's that anchor of yours, anyway, Terry? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  19. Why didn't you track? Even on a small formation, everyone should be tracking away. Pulling in place is reserved for video. If you wanted to pull high, plan your break off and track accordingly... break off at 5500 instead of 4000. If the people you were jumping with insisted on a lower break off, you need to find new people to jump with. Like everyone else pointed out, you didn't have a 2000 ft open, you pulled lower than you planned to, and thus were under a fully inflated canopy later than planned. Spend a little time thinking about your break off procedures, about your pull altitudes and definitely be more altitude aware! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  20. This is why I'm going to make every effort to get to the next PIA Symposium... to learn!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  21. He was walking funny the next day... and turns incredibly pale if anyone brings it up to him, even now, more than a year later! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  22. Keep in mind rigging isn't just doing a reserve repack. I do repacks for myself, my husband, and a few friends, that's it. Definitely not 90 repacks a year. However, I hang out at Dave Dewolf's loft as frequently as I can, work as a packer at the DZ every weekend, read everything I can get my hands on from a rigging standpoint, pick other riggers' brains about things that I don't do on a regular basis, etc... all of that would go under currency as well. I probably devote at least a little time every day to reading and learning and keeping up to date on rigging information. I think as spelled out, the currency requirements are rediculous. There should be a required 'continuing education' type program so that there is some continuity between riggers, and all riggers are kept up to date on information. I'm required as an eye doc to have so many hours of continuing ed a year, rigging should be no different. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  23. I've seen slinks used for the same thing... easier to hook up and less chance of losing them. I've seen the key rings start pulling apart, if they are the thinner type key rings. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  24. Oooh, electric 8 ways are fun! I was in the final 2 both times I did it And I had my boobie zapped as part of it, felt kinda neat actually. One guy had his balls grabbed a couple of times as part of it... remember that, Spence??
