  1. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone on here has connections with the job market within a 40 mile or so radius of Harrisburg, PA, could you let me know? My husband (Skydivingchad) lost his job yesterday. He started out as a peon in the company at $11/hour, and over ten years worked his way up through the ranks and ended up as a supervisor making very good money. He knows he'll be starting all over again with an entry level position, but he has a great work ethic, learns fast, and is very mechanically inclined. He was a production supervisor for a company that subcontracted with the US Mint. Ughghghghgh. What crappy timing. We are in the process of adopting a 15 year old out of foster care. How can I break it to this kid? We'll still be adopting him, but things are going to be tight for us all for a while. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. I agree with this. Mine are 99% on heading, but you can't be an arching lump in the harness during opening, you need to 'feel' the canopy and work with it, actively fly it during the opening. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. When my python escaped, I found her behind books on my bookcase, all curled up and cozy. I once saw a 14 foot Burmese Python wedge himself INSIDE a lab desk. I have no clue how he got himself in there, but he survived the adventure :-) Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  4. I would think that's more an FAA issue than a USPA one. Has the USPA ever sanctioned a member DZ/DZO for aircraft related issues? Unfortunately aircraft issues are taboo to talk about, or you get blackballed... that's the sad nature of this sport. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  5. Call me crazy and all, but can't ANY DZ be characterized as 'windy at times'?
  6. Bad example... people in general are allowed on streets driving/walking... that's what they are for. However no idiot is supposed to be on any subway track for any reason.... at least not on any subway I've ever been on. Doing something stupid, drunk or not drunk, should not be worth millions of dollars. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  7. Calling 'them' colored? Technically aren't we all a color? I don't recall ever having been told I'm transparent, more of a peachy beige. Peachy beige is a color. Maybe I'll join the NAACP? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. I second that question. I miss your corner of the state (went to Westminster College) and have been itching to jump with Skydive PA. Being on staff at another DZ makes travel tough except in the winter
  9. Hi Joe, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear... it was the PMs that were fired off at me as a result of this thread that I was addressing in my quoted response above, not the text that was on here. My apology was for offending her on here in the public forum. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  10. This was my entire 'name calling' PM... just to clear the air and make it obvious that I'm not a psycho name caller in PMs
  11. "I punch it" Holy crap. Is it possible to call child/protective services in a case like that? At least have them be aware of the situation so that when she's punching the newborn, the baby can be removed? I had to call CPS on a patient last Monday... young grandmother kept threatening to hit the 1, 2, and 3 year old kids, ended up throwing the oldest against the wall in my exam room, and picking up the younger two by twisting their arms and yanking to move them. All three kids were well behaved and dead silent the entire time they were here (about an hour). Baby-mama just sat and watched the proceedings Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  12. You were too transfixed by the prospect of boobies, I understand.... Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. You're the one that said something about a DA? Now I'm confused. But I've gotten out well past the boobies before, depends on winds....
  14. There's a big difference between 'being trained in manual medicine' and spending years of graduate school focusing exclusively in manual medicine.
  15. Chiropractors who say they cure allergies are lying, but with the exception of a few quacks, you probably will find that's not the norm. However.... chiropractors can help with stress/tension. Stress can exacerbate all kinds of things, from asthma to retinal disease (look up central serous retinopathy for one), so it makes sense that if chiropractic helps with stress, it may mitigate some of the stress-related health problems. Look at the health benefits of accupuncture, yoga, good nutrition, exercise, etc. So, would I suggest seeing a chiropractor for allergies? Nope, I'd suggest an allergist. But if you do have chiropractic issues, getting them treated can result in better overall health, reduced stress, and possible improvement of other health symptoms. 16. I'm not sure where you thought I was 'equating' anything... to compare MD/DOs to Chiros or any other specialty doesn't make a lot of sense as they are entirely different specialties.... one does not work to the exclusion of the other, one is not 'better' than the other, 'smarter' than the other, etc... they are different with different purposes. A DO/MD simply can not do a chiro's job (and if they claim to, they have no idea what they don't know) any more than a chiro can do an MD/DO's job. I'm not sure why number of years of post-graduate education is relevent to this particular topic ... that would be like saying an RN or LPN is not a useful/important part of a health care team as they are not post-graduate degrees and don't have the same number of years of education. Degrading any profession by calling someone 'only' a whatever or 'just' a whatever isn't appropriate. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  17. +1 I didn't see any real evidence of low pulls on that video. Hard to judge, what with telephoto lenses available and all the editing done. Unless I hear some real numbers from the participants of their opening altitudes, I'll just write it off as hype. What I saw that I didn't like were the cutaways above the water. Those looked disturbingly high, and have killed a number of jumpers over the year. It's tricky to judge your altitude over water, and looks benign enough that some impressionable noobs might want to try that. You might not want to look too closely at PDs videos, then. As I recall, there was a 4-person low cutaway into water on one of them on their web site, and I would think that PD would have far more clout than MTV among newer jumpers. 18. Yeaaaaaaaaa... no more waiting for you or Marc to 'warm the seat up' on the porta potty for me on a cold day (and dealing with the resulting after-stench!) Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  19. More 'official' word from the DZ.. To all fellow skydivers & friends, So far Theresa and I have had a fairly busy off season with some very good accomplishments. We returned from Reno, NV on Feb 14th after attending the USPA DZO Conference and PIA Symposium. During the DZO Conference KSC, represented by Theresa, was the guest speaker. USPA selected our DZ for it's reputation as a small, successful and energetic DZ. Theresa did an outstanding job with a great applause from fellow DZO's from around the country. As many of you already know, Kutztown Airport is closed. Fortunately we have found another airport to move to. We are still Kutztown Skydiving Center but will be doing business as (dba) Keystone Skydive Center. Our 2009 Season Opener will be on April 11th at our new location: Perkiomen Valley Airport in Collegeville, PA. We will have office space at our new location. However it will need a great deal of interior work. Any volunteer helpers will be greatly appreciated. The building will have room for manifest, student gear room, video editing room, and classroom. The building also has a rest room and separate shower. Once again we will be conducting our USPA 2009 Safety Day at the AeroStore at 10:00 am on April 4th. Thanks to Marco & Jil Castanon for providing such a great facility to have it. I will be contacting specific individuals to participate as instructors. Special guest instructors tentatively scheduled are USPA's Eastern Regional Director - Randy Schroeder and also guru of canopy flight,Brian Germain. So please mark your calendars for Safety Day - Apr 4th and Season Opener - Apr 11th. See you all soon, Marc & Theresa Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  20. What do you mean all bets are off when I'm spotting the 182????? I just wait for the green light and then go... isn't that what you're supposed to do?? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  21. 'JUST a chiropractor?' DOs/MDs don't have a monopoly on knowledge base, and chiropractor grad school is extremely intense (having known a few students back when I was in OD school). Unfortunately, no single person can know everything about every body part, it's not humanly possible. Usually a 'team approach' is far better than 'just' an MD/DO Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  22. I haven't actually been there yet, so don't know where the landing area will be. The airport itself is pretty good sized, bigger than Ktown, and although less outs than Ktown had, still a fair number. Post a bigger shot of Ktown, and the boobs/pussy will be obvious (on/off ramps of rt 222 look just like a set of boobs and a pussy, the DZ is off of 222 right between them). 23. Oh, give us time, we'll figure out some new dirty landmarks Alex, I look forward to seeing you at the DZ again!!! Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
