    I first told you about it HERE DZ Manager, Troy Laird, had found a snake in the gear room earlier. It was released back into the wild somewhere near the Otter. Not sure it's the same one, but who knows. While doing some engine work earlier in the week the cowling was dropped. The poor animal's head was wedged under some piping, and the rest of his body didn't follow the head because his last meal caused the back end of his body to jam up behind another barrier. When the cowling came open the poor devil was RACKED to death. Post mortem found Mr. Snake's last meal to be a golf ball.     Just heard from the most reliable of sources that a SNAKE was found inside of Skydive Houston's Otter. It had swallowed a golf ball, probably thinking it was an egg, and the girth expansion trapped it and kept it from slithering from its hiding place inside. RIP snake.     Can't say I have a boring job. I've always tried to keep things interesting. In college I worked at a funeral home in Conroe, Texas. I was a prison guard during THE most famous Texas Prison escape attempt (Carrasco in 1974) Willett was my shift Lt. I delivered pizza. I photographed strippers for their publicity stills. I conducted over a thousand parole revocation hearings before I was a lawyer. Now I represent citizens accused of crimes, and I've tried a few cases to the two word verdict.

    This is Meri, my Down Syndrome daughter, who has, in the past, told me she wants to jump. Although she took a ride in the right seat she is not yet ready. (Her big sister has some tandems already.) She's 23 now, and she's been a fixture at Skydive Houston for years; sitting on the floor or on a stool watching her video tapes and later her DVDs, patiently, while dad goes about his business. Her DZ trips are fewer now, but she still enjoys it. In fact, we'll probably be sleeping in the packing area when the sun rises over Skydive Houston this coming Saturday. Just a side note. Both she and her sister were tied off with pull up cords from my rig when they were born. I've told that story before, but not all of you GOT it.

    Well, I had a couple of spooky ones this weekend. I've come to the conclusion that someone telling you they've jumped before a few years back should raise hackles on your neck. Perhaps they should get some extra training. The first one was a girl who seemed cool and collected. Despite having been told to keep her hands glued to the harness during exit she yelped, let go and interfered with drogue deployment... The rest of the jump was unremarkable. The next "experienced" guy had jumped about 8 years earlier. I'm not sure what happened on exit (seated from the floor of a Caravan) but we ended up in a multiple barrel roll situation that was only stopped by drogue. NEVER experienced that one before. All this weekend. Most memorable was jumping my daughter on my 300th tandem which was also my 3000th jump. She shot video by holding the camera....     One HUMP Thirteen Jumps for sending Loren Detamore, a recently deceased Houston attorney, on the skydive he always wanted to do. RIP in the sky you now occupy. Thanks to Debbie Dodge for creating the two part deployment device and being on the dive along with John Rich, Lee McMillian and Henry Butler.     How come I've never seen that daughter at the DZ? Where have you been hiding her? Actually, she's done some tandems there. Her husband and father in law jumped there also. She brought many Aggies out to get jumped at Skydive Houston over the years, including one munchkin (AGGIE04) who became experienced. Russell M.
