Well, I see it as both, to be sure. Even if technically feasible, it would do nothing to prevent crime. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

And whatever the end user paints over the dot, or the tip of the pellet gun barrel, is no longer the responsibility of the manufacturer, right? I agree with that, but they still allow lawsuits against companies for less sensible reasons. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Same exact here. I am NO vegetarian (though I love vegetables), and I absolutely love falafel. When I was in England, I used to eat "doner kabobs"... and "treble burgers" ... sold from a vendor truck... It's enough to make me worry that I'm carrying Mad Cow Disease... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

It's true -- I saw them in "Brigadoon"! Oh, it was just fabulous! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

This kind of idea perpetuates the fallacy that a kid who is spanked for some childhood transgression will internalize that to where he feels if he wants a bottle of Coke from the convenience store, he's gonna spank around people in order to get it. Or that he's gonna spank the people in his office if their numbers are too low for the month, etc. It's just ridiculous. If a parent spanks a kid as a corrective measure when he is a child, he stops the behavior -- because he understands the unpleasantness of the spanking even when he would not understand the intricacy of an explanation of why he should not be running around knocking into people's knees at a wake, for example, particularly after being simply told to stop. In fact, that brings up another point. I don't think that most parents use a spanking unless they have first given a parental directive, and then seen that legitimate directive (they are the parent, after all) disobeyed at least once, probably more. If your kid cannot understand your point, or is being willfully disobedient and incorrigible, I see a spanking as wholly legitimate, because it is one thing a kid will understand and which will drive the point home. Sometimes it comes down to "what else can you do?" But I don't think spanking is generally seen, or used, as a first-resort. Except by trailer trash mommas in the dollar store, who are fed up with their beer-swilling, no-job-havin' husbands and their filthy, snot-nosed rugrat sandbags. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... That was actually one of the choices I've been contemplating...just seeing where I end up. Yeah, 'cause fossil fuel is sooo plentiful and affordable, and there's only gonna be more of it in the future! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Is that for like, tying veins and stuff? I stick to the hemp rope and nylon cord, myself... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -

How about silk scarves, sweetie? And do you know how to double-lock handcuffs? I'll bet you have the kind with a hinge instead of a chain, 'cause you're that serious! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Brussels sprouts, love 'em or hate 'em?

Asparagus, eaten raw, has to be of the very thin variety or else I find it is far too tough. Um, does it make your pee smell funny, like it does to me? That's one of the fun things about eating asparagus! And it lasts for like a day and a half, I think. Or is that because I ate more of it? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... I just looked back at that post, and there is no bigotry there. I was calling what I SEE every day. I didn't use words like "nigger" or "wetback" or "spic" or "coon"... I did use "homey," but that is a common word used to describe a black person who looks, dresses and acts in a certain, recognizable way. I further described the behavior. What is bigoted about having a problem with illegal aliens being on the road with no driver's license and no driving skills? The lady I talked about KILLED A COP through her negligence. And then she got a HUGE break from the judge and didn't get any jail time. And then she went and kept on driving -- STILL without a license -- and got caught again. Oh, and addressing your claim that I don't get down on white Americans, what do you think I was imagining when I wrote of teeny-boppers driving daddy's 325i? So much for your claims. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Yeah, but you keep hounding me in thread after thread because of a very personal, personality-not-issues-based disagreement. And I asked you to refresh my memory of where to find the post I supposedly said it was good your brother was murdered. You haven't helped me there. You seem rather interested in just continuing your grudge. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Exactly. I was gonna say, I hardly think that bringing a few bags is the principal issue, here. I would think it's an issue of far too many people, feeling far too urgent a need to engage in a superstitious ritual. If we could move beyond the need to believe this stuff, there wouldn't be a few hundred dead each year. How do the people in that culture come to grips with accepting this kind of thing every damned year? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Shoulda given him life in prison. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Look, when someone has the luxury to take a nice, aimed shot at someone's fibia, it says to me that they were not fearing for their life or the lives of others, in an imminent-danger kind of sense. If I were to, as a civilian, encounter some nasty person, and I claim that he threatened my safety and life such that I drew my gun and shot him, but I admit that I shot intentionally in the leg, a prosecutor might well question whether I was justified in shooting him. You see, shooting at someone at all -- no matter what part of him you aim for -- is legally considered to be "deadly physical force," and as such you may not do so unless you fear for your life, someone else's life, or grave physical injury. These days, it seems that if someone were presenting a disturbance but not a credible actual threat to lives, they'll spray him with pepper spray or use a taser on him. But shooting in the leg? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

What the hell are they teaching German cops? Warning shots?! Shooting in the FIBIA?! If anything is proof that deadly force (i.e. shooting at all, period) was NOT justified, it was the fact that the cop saw fit to take a risky leg shot -- after firing warning shots. Apparently he did not believe the gun was real in the first place. If I were a cop -- and I am pretty sure most cops are trained this way -- if someone pointed what I believed was a real gun at me, bullets would be going his way until he appeared utterly unable to continue the threat against my life. edit: How did that one cop out of ten justify deciding to shoot this guy, anyway? Did they hold an impromptu vote to see, "Hey, vich vonne of uss iss goink to shoot ze nutter to sztop hiss vierdo rrrampage?" - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Keep taking your cheap shots at me. You demonstrate an utter inability to stick with the subject being discussed, in thread after thread. Is your grudge against me really that severe? It might warrant professional intervention. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I must just be really really cynical, because I think that so many kids are so maladjusted and poorly raised that they could get "so depressed and sad to that point" over having their X-Box taken away for misbehavior or bad grades in school. I don't really put a lot of faith in the idea that every suicidal kid is suicidal for a truly compelling, truly depressing reason worth ending one's life over. And that's because so many kids these days are so hyper-overindulged that they think the world owes them a living and 24/7 entertainment with zero work expected of them. "Spoiled," I think, is the term I'm thinking of. I don't know this kid; all of this might not even apply to him; but I have my suspicions. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Okay, then: It pretends like there aren't 1001 reasons for this idea to be utterly implausible, not least of which are the expense, the potential for criminals to come up with creative ways to disable the device, and the fact that the signal would likely be blocked by any number of environmental factors. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
