I might not be so in favor of the death penalty...

A murderer who has been lethally injected and then cremated takes up very very little space. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Anyone want to see the true nature of our enemies?
peacefuljeffrey replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
Yet. t Dude, that is a really fucked up, assholish thing to say, and I resent it, and I think you should apologize for it. Implying that someone has violent tendencies, and imlying that they may go on a rampage against fellow posters here in dropzone.com is, as far as I'm concerned, a personal attack. -Jeffrey -

I'm sure Joseph Stalin, Chairman Mao, Ho Chi Min, Pol Phot, Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun etc could all say the same thing. All were capable of functioning quite normally. t Oh, okay, not only is BUSH to be put on a level with Stalin, Mao, Min, Pot, Hitler (you forgot Idi Amin!) but so am I!! OMG you are hurting me I'm laughing so hard!!!!!! ouch, my sides and my face!! Talk about losing all perspective, Tonto! Likening me to dictators who have killed MILLIONS?! I haven't even killed ONE person! (Still looking...) -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
Maybe you might hate him every bit as much if the media let you know just how much lying he has done. All you need is one example (relevant to this thread): the lies he has told about what the "assault weapons ban" did and did not do. He has helped perpetuate the myth that they are any more lethal or dangerous, or fire any faster, than many non-banned weapons. Indeed, he perpetuates the myth that they are more dangerous to police than hunting rifles are, and that they fire in full-auto mode, when they are not and they do not. I cannot forgive that kind of lying. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

First, where does it say it's full auto OR that he brought it back or that it's not registered? Or do you think that the BATF should investigate everyone who has a military style rifle? It's John Kerry who wants every gun owner registered, so if his money is where his mouth is, he should be volunteering to line up to have his rifle inspected and registered with the federal government. And if he's in violation of the NFA, that's ten years in the slammer, Frenchie. Kev, we're just looking for him to be consistent with his own word. That doesn't mean we have to agree with the policy -- but for damn sure I demand that anyone who advocates a policy to govern the rest of us live by it himself. -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
That's not possible. Full-auto "NFA" firearms came under regulation with the National Firearms Act of 1934. Nothing used in WWII could possibly have been grandfathered in, since WWII was begun and ended well after 1934. If Kerry has a full-auto ChiCom rifle, and has not paid the BATF $200 tax, registered the gun, then he is a felon and should do TEN YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON. Ah, what a sweet, sweet, beautiful dream that would be. Blue skies, -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Kev, are you going to say ANYTHING about the subject of the thread -- the hypocrisy of a man who wants to ban these weapons OWNING the said weapons? -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I had actually thought about posting something about police using masks, but didn't bother. It is something I have heard criticized, and I agree: the police should be accountable to the public they serve, and should not enjoy anonymity. That breeds the potential for abuse of power, and a psychological mindset that they can do whatever they want with impunity. ("After all, I'm just a faceless person with no identity. Who can pin anything on me?") Sort of like a microcosm of the "crowd mentality" that enables people to do things they would normally feel are wrong, just because the anonymity "enables" them. I am very much like this. I save sentimental stuff (I try to not save "crap," though). I have always been this way. I save tokens and mementos from things I've done, places I've been, people I've known. I have a great memory, but the things I save are like reservoirs for memories, and they can make them that much more potent. I think there are two things at work here: a fondness for memories, and a fear of forgetting (probably due to the awareness of the fondness). I save wine bottles; keychains; photos (a given); emails; letters (lots of lettes); birthday cards & holiday cards; stuffed animals; gifts; toys (I still have my old Star Wars figures, though I threw out the ships because of poor condition); comic books (I think I have about 2-3000 of them in boxes); old school report cards and essays; books; magazines. At the same time, I like to think of myself as not being a materialistic person. I just like knicknacks, for sure. But I also like a minimalist approach to life. I guess my alter ego would live a life of non-materialism... Blue skies, -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Anyone want to see the true nature of our enemies?
peacefuljeffrey replied to skycop's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't have so much hate that it interferes with normal functioning. I do recognize the fact that much is wrong with the world that certainly does not need to be, and I get frustrated by that, yes. I have always had issue with the notion that we have to have the "yin and yang" like you say in order for things to be good. It sounds good, but it's specious. Do I have to have an accident in order to know it's good to drive safely? Does a family have to have a black sheep who goes to jail for committing a crime in order to know it's good to have four honest, good kids (personal example)? Do I have to eat dogshit in order to know how good chocolate tastes? If we did not have the yin/yang thing going on politically in this country, it would by definition mean that all parties agreed and were of one mind. There would be no need for the yin for the yang, for the balance you mention, because everyone would want yang! It would be all we knew, and it would obviously feel right. Yes, there is no top without bottom, no right without left. Some say there is no good without bad, but I think the premise stops short of that. It's true, you would not know to call it "good" if you had no "bad," but that does not change the fact that you would still LIKE the thing that you did not know would be called "good." Think about it. If you had never tasted a bad thing in your life, and someone gave you something delicious, would you fail to enjoy it?! You don't need to suffer bad in order to enjoy good: we are programmed to. Blue skies, -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
For a guy I usually agree with, and one who spends a lot of electrons on this forum vigorously defending america, the 2d ammendment, our rights, and our privileges, who we should fight, when and how, this little rant of yours quite frankly makes me sick. What you described *is* damn close to what military service is. Yep, you have grasped it pretty well. But it is not punishment, it is sacrifice. The best way to defend and deter our enemies is to provide a military made up of a group of people and equipment who work as a team. You can't build a military out of individuals operating as individuals. But giving yourself up completely to your country for a few years at the least is what many of us feel is an honorable way to give back and help pay for what we enjoy. Yes, that means that your precious little hide and individuality may be hindered or killed. Freedom is not free. I love my country and my family. I'll fight (and possibly die) for them. Americans have the right not to serve, and they have the right to kick the military all they want on how they operate. Just makes me sick. "I want all the good stuff (that others died to give me), but no way I'm putting my ass on the line or giving up my body piercings." Please. Look, I don't really care whether my views make you sick -- that was probably already obvious but I'll say it for the record. I understand that military service is sacrifice -- but it need not be servitude, and that IS how I see it, and that IS why I made the decision to not join up! What you are not grasping in my argument is that military service NEED NOT BE as preemptive of individual rights as it is. It would not take a whole lot to make it more palatable to a lot more people, and we would have that stronger force you are wishing for. I am very able bodied and able minded, and the military and this country is denied the services I could provide, because I am not willing to be UN-FREE in order to defend FREEDOM! That's just STUPID, and IT makes ME sick. And apparently, via my examples of soldiers who have rebelled against intrusive military policies, there are others who have been even more willing than I once was to make the sacrifice, who decided the military had pushed too far. Requiring people to take unproven, unapproved drugs?! Requiring people to submit their DNA to be forever recorded on file?! These are things that, if forced on the general population, would cause civil war! And you defend them because "it's part of the sacrifice to serve your country?" These things are NOT NECESSARY TO THE FUNCTIONING OF OUR MILITARY! We got along fine in wartime before, without DNA databases. What, it's that important that we be able to identify remains? We identified remains in the past without having to keep everyone's DNA on file. And we're over there fighting a war against a guy who everyone says does NOT have N.B.C. weapons, and yet our troops have to take unapproved vaccines that are said to have sickened people. Hmm. As far as the body piercing example goes -- I don't care about it because I want tattoos and body piercings, I care about it because it's an example of the over-control over the lives of enlisted people. Our military seems keen on forcing people to surrender their humanity and individuality in order to serve, and the simple fact is, that is the largest factor that keeps me from being willing to serve. And I see it as sick that the military insists on this even when it does not appear to me to be necessary for the functioning of the military. Be sickened if you want to. This is how I feel. What you are defending is the loss of freedom for those who stand to defend it. That's a whole lot more sick. -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

If we did this we would be sinking to their level and this is where I disagree with you. If someone on your street killed someone and got the death penalty, would you advocate putting everyone else on street to death as well including yourself? No it is not, it is like refusing to kick a passerby in the groin when someone is going to kill you, it does not have any affect on the perp, he doesn't care if you hurt someone else. You seem to have utterly lost sight of the analogy. I was saying that when your adversary will fight using the dirtiest means possible, you are hurting only yourself if you limit yourself to "gentlemen's rules" to get him quelled. Blue skies, -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

And yet you all say we're different from them? If it's venting, fine, I understand venting, but call it that, and don't think of it as virtuous. Wendy W. So now, we're not free to think of as virtuous what we deign to think of as virtuous? We have to employ YOUR model of what is virtuous? I say it IS virtuous to be willing to rise up against an enemy, with full force, and exterminate those who would kill you without a thought. Have any of you ever seen the Halloween episode of The Simpsons where Homer sold his soul for a donut? Homer outsmarted The Devil (Ned Flanders) by deciding to not eat the last bit of donut that would consign his soul to hell. He cheered, "I'm smarter than the Devil, I'm smarter than the Devil!" And in an instant, the Flanders/Devil REARED UP INTO A HUGE, BLACK, EVIL THING, WITH A BOOMING, FURIOUS VOICE, POINTING DOWN MENACINGLY AT HOMER WITH A CLAWED FINGER, YELLING, "YOU ARE NOT SMARTER THAN ME!!" Well, that's what I picture that our country should turn into in the face of this radical islamist threat, which daily is killing our people. They provoked us. We came in, got rid of the Taliban evil dictatorship, got rid of the evil Saddam Hussein and his sadistic torturer sons (who make Abu Ghraib look like nap-time in nursery school), and WOULD be rebuilding high schools and hospitals and infrastructure, if it were not for the whackos there FIGHTING us at every turn! They COULD be liberated, we could be OUT of there, leaving them alone to live in peace and FREEDOM, but they fight us. I think we need to be that furious Flanders-Devil going from meek and mild one minute to potent, engorged fury the next, because we are not the aggressors here. Blue skies, -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

There's not? What about those "vigilantes" who were just arrested for doing just that and are now in an AFGHAN PRISON?! I thought about joining the military years ago, and decided against it because unfortunately, in addition to providing training and pay, the military requires you to essentially give up the sovereignty of your own life, and I just could not do that. I can take orders, but I cannot abide the notion that the military essentially would own me for a long period; force me to take injections of drugs not even approved by the FDA; keep my DNA on file; prohibit me from getting tattoos or piercings (my army brother told me you can get reprimands and docked pay for that); call me back even when I'm "out"; tell me where I must go and live for months or years at a time (which I understand is normal, but still distasteful)... And all this, what to me amounts to punishment, for the sacrifice of serving my country?! If I could join the military and serve without being forced to submit DNA (some marines, I remember, were court martialed for refusing); without being forced to take unproven, unapproved vaccines (some got trouble for refusing that, too); without agreeing to any longer of a tour of duty than those four or whatever years; I would probably have done it. I like the idea of learning the skills the military can provide, and I like the idea of using them to serve, but as far as I am concerned, the military demands too much of my freedom. -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... What is hard to understand about loathing people for doing things that you believe are flat-out wrong, stupid, dangerous, illegal, unconstitutional, or that simple endanger freedom and liberty? That is the frame for the hostility. Both sides -- it's certainly not just conservatives hating liberals, and don't you think for a second that it is -- believe that the other side is being stupid and reckless in supporting its particular agenda. Sometimes, it even comes to seem to conservatives that liberals are trying to take the country on a self-destructive, self-loathing course! Almost as though they are renouncing what it is to be American -- and for what, to please the "international community"? If you really believe that others are making decisions that threaten your very way of life and your being, it is not unusual to come to despise those people. It is a loss of self control born out of frustration with the perceived stupidity of the other side, and its insistence on being what you consider objectively wrong and still being bullheaded about it. It comes from perceiving that the work of the other guy is actually NOT working for the "same side." Conservatives can see that liberals often support causes that weaken America, and seek to take down her resolve through divisiveness and self-hatred and pandering to foreign nations even as we wrap ourselves around a thankless but necessary task with little outside help, and at great cost to ourselves. -Jeffrey - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
