Didn't they rename Carnivore to something less...menacing-sounding? They realized that people don't like the idea of a government entity "devouring" their freedom, I guess. Kind of like how "Handgun Control, Inc."changed its name to "The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence" when it realized that the public don't like organizations that seek to "control." From an NRA site: "In 2001, Handgun Control, Inc. changed its name to Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The organization originated (1974) as the National Council to Control Handguns (NCCH), a group which lobbied for government restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms through support for restrictions on the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, and civilian possession of handguns. The organization voiced a desire for an eventual handgun ban through gradual steps, but changed its name and espoused goals due to results of a survey. In 1991, then HCI amended its Articles of Incorporation to reflect its support of restrictions on rifles and shotguns as well." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Yep, those Hungarian-born billionaires motivate ME to get involved in the political process, too! How's it feel to be a pawn of George "Alexander" Soros? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

In due time. I'll probably agree. I detest invasion of privacy. It's part of why I will not visit England again. That bullshit surveillance state they run there, everyone under constant nanny supervision by the police via cameras... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... OMG but imagine if they were forced to -- on camera -- SHOTGUN the sixpack!! LOmfL!!!!! I would love to see that happen!! Kerry would wilt so freakin' badly! (Not that I equate manliness with being able to shotgun beers... but... well okay, I DO equate manliness with being able to shotgun beers! So what?! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I'm afraid Bush wouldn't come out well in such a contest... Kerry is a born "tosser." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Well, you can stop right there as soon as any liberal claims to support expanding the military. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I thought that surrender-monkeys like Kerry (as Rush calls him, "The French-looking Candidate") typically made a "hands-UP" gesture... -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

No. Don't want one; don't need one; won't allow myself to be forced to get one. Already the Mighty State is trying to force people to use them: Florida raised the tolls for cars that don't use "SunPass." How long before the State, in its zeal to be able to keep tabs on EVERYONE, regardless of not being suspected of a crime, pulls a "Ted Kennedy" and institutes a 10,000% surcharge for not using an EZpass-type RFID chip for travel? Their claim will be, "Well, we're not BANNING you from traveling! You're still 'free' to travel..." -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Jesus Christ! If psychologists and physicists are causing deaths, we really have a fucking problem!! And if we weed out the shrinks and geeks, leaving only physicians, then it's an even smaller number of people responsible for the large number of deaths. Were you making an anti-gun point there somewhere, or trying to, kallend? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

This kind of atrocity -- this disingenuous mendacity, duplicity and scheming -- should be punishable as a crime, and removal from public office with a ban against ever holding such office again. When people in Congress craft legislation whose intent is SOLELY TO SCHEME AGAINST THE OPPOSITION PARTY, they don't deserve to be congressmen. The only excuse for voting against your own bill would be if it were poisoned with amendments that are counter to the spirit and purpose of the bill, or are otherwise unrelated and are opposed by the sponsor. Rangel should have his demagoguic ass kicked out of congress. He voted against his own bill? What a piece of SHIT! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... The only time we should ever go to war to defend our culture and our lives is when we are willing to risk going to war being the cause of the destruction of our culture and our lives? Where did this supposed axiom come from? What makes it axiomatic that for a war to be justified, each segment of the fighting force must come proportionally from each of the "strata" of society? It sounds like what you're saying is that the fighting force must be made up of (a) those who chose to be a part of that fighting force, and (b) those who specifically chose not to be a part of it. That cheapens the freedom of choice of both segments. It also seems clear what others have said, that it makes little sense to sacrifice, in the trenches, the brightest minds, who are put to far better use in other endeavors (medicine, leadership, philosophy, engineering, even art) -- for what? "Fairness"?? That seems petty and trivial in the grand scheme. Should a society that is considering war have to force the war, which presumably would be fought to protect and defend that society, to be the cause of that society's downfall? That's circular, and self-defeating. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

So when a Republican doesn't say he's against the draft, he's for it. When a Republican casts a vote to NOT reinstitute a draft, he isn't really against it -- he's just posing for an election campaign. Liberals really don't see the hypocrisy of their insistence on having it both ways. Apparently, there is NOTHING Republicans can do to satisfy the liberals that they don't want a draft. If they keep their mouths shut, they are accused of secretly wanting to do it. If they VOTE in CONGRESS to not do it, they are insincere. I think it's time that Republicans gave up trying to convince liberals of their good intentions because liberals never believe them, and won't ever concede anything in good faith. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... They will claim that since driving and having a driver's license is a "privilige, not a right," (an argument I have always thought was bullshit, since it is very difficult to live a typical modern life without one, at least in many places in this country, and that does make it an entitlement provided you conduct yourself responsibly and safely). As such, they will claim that if you don't like it, don't get a driver's license. They'll be full of shit, of course, but this is what they'll say, nonetheless. I think you are right on the mark with these predictions. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

If I were you, I would stop working on such technology, then, and urge others to stop as well. Imagine for a moment that you were working on MIND-READING technology. For a legitimate purpose, of course. Something like using it ONLY to find out where an abductor is keeping some little girl he kidnapped, and who will die if she is not found... You are working on the technology to enable this noble cause -- BUT, you blind yourself to the fact that once it exists, it can be abused by any number of evil people or groups. You can't just wash your hands of it and say, "Well, I only envisioned noble uses..." and rid yourself of blame for tyrannical governments using the mind-reading technology against political opponents. There are some things that should not exist, even though they can. Mind-control devices, mind-reading devices, and human-tracking devices are among them. And any contribution toward them is bad. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I'm not sure, since I have never done one, but I don't think that characterization of such hunts is accurate. The nearest I've heard is that such "canned" hunts still take place on huge expanses of land. Just because they have a known border to the owned property does not mean it's like shooting a beagle in a fenced back yard or something. I think that image of so-called "canned hunts" comes directly from anti-hunting extremist groups. Just like "cop-killer bullets" is a made up, meaningless term coined by those who want to ban guns. (Same mindset: screw the facts, we just want to sway minds) -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

You mean, like every other nonsensical gun control scheme? This is an effort to make it so difficult to legally have and use guns that we won't want to, or be able to, anymore. That's what the gun-prohibitionists want. Like Ted Fathead Kennedy's "10,000% ammo tax." Gee, Ted, would you think it fair if we taxed shit that YOU want so as to prevent you from having it at a fair price? How about a 10,000,000% tax on whiskey, you piece of shit tyrant? -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Hypothetical: TSA requiring human chip implants
peacefuljeffrey replied to FallingAngel's topic in Speakers Corner
I agree with all in the second part, but not the first. Why would a chip-implanted worker be able to go through security more quickly or efficiently? A person having a chip is not a guarantee that he is not smuggling weapons, explosives or drugs! They'd still have to be checked in that regard. All the chip would do is subtitute for a more-easily-faked (?) photo ID card. Establishing ID is not the hard part of security screening -- making sure that prohibited items are not smuggled through is the hard part. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... That's nothing, in my case, you could cover Jupiter twice Oh yeah? With mine you could make a road as wide as Jupiter's diameter, all the way from here to Jupiter! Wow! Now that was peaceful....Jeffrey. They're fictional!! (and annoying) I have read two of them, saw the first movie (which had horrible SFX), and listened to #3 on CD rom. I have to say that the storylines are stupid, IMO. It's like a bad sitcom, where you sit there thinking, "All they have to do is come clean and say this one thing and everything will work out fine," and they don't do it. Hogwart's school is like an asylum that the inmates run -- it's no wonder the kids are always threatened with death of some gnarly sort or another. The adult supervision of them, given the dire and dangerous nature of what they do, is preposterously insufficient. It seems that the great wizards who teach at the school also don't give a shit about the potential dangers of learning magic that the students face. The kids are left to their own devices and so no wonder there is all kinds of shit that happens. I just find it dumb. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... The last time I took like two months off, I found out while I was away that Skydive SoBe closed. I'm afraid to do that again! I had to skip about three weeks or so with hurricane crap, but now I'm back to a weekly schedule, or maybe three out of four weeks.

OMG you're doing it to me again!! Did it involve mashing his face between your legs as you rode it like a bronco? Details -- I beg you! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
MAN where can someone get a tub of peanut butter? but yeah i have stories liek this of when i was a kid. if only i could remember any of them. My sister had a doll called "Baby Alive" that would eat some prepared mush food. I must have been about 3, and she was 4, and I have this memory of being fascinated with the doll's food. My sister admonished me (probably with a wagging finger), "Now don't eat the doll's food!" (and something about it being bad or poison or something, I think) so... what do you think I did? Good thing the manufacturers were sure to make the food non-toxic 'cause they just knew some fool kid would eat it. Amazingly, though, I was never a paste- or booger-eater. Though I am rather orally fixated... LOL! -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I didn't want to be that kid that didn't know where or what the clit and even better the g-spot is. -
Dude, I'm very happy to read you're quitting smoking! May you succeed fully. Um, don't overdue the beer to compensate, though. -Jeffrey -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
