  1. Where is your poll option for US companies exporting jobs overseas to third world labor willing to work in unsafe conditions unacceptable to US laws and for wages unimaginably low compared to US minimum wage? Nike is never going to make shoes in the US when they can pay children to make them in Indonisa for $3.70 per day. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/15/nike-indonesia_n_2481236.html quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  2. There is an inherent danger in believing in outliers who have had success in predicting things. The danger is believing they actually know what they're talking about when the fact is it's entirely possible to reproduce similar results by coin flips. Let's say you were looking for genius predictors of future Presidential elections and wanted to do that by taping into the mystical powers of the universe and, as previously stated, flipping a coin. We gather 1000 potential genius experts and have them flip coins and record their results. Heads is D, Tails is R. Each person is given 8 blindfolded flips. What are the odds at least 1 person in that group of 1000 will have mystically predicted the winner of all 8 races? Well, actually they're pretty good 1:256 is what we'd expect by random chance. We'd probably expect 3 (plus or minus 1) people in that group of 1000 to have correctly predicted just using coin flips. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  3. Yeah there wasn't demonstrations the day after he was elected. Democracy was respected. Demonstrations, in and of themselves, aren't a disrespect for democracy and each demonstration is unique in its own way as well as how it is perceived by others who are not involved. There is nothing wrong with a group of people gathering to voice their displeasure. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with burning Trump in effigy nor does it go against the concepts of democracy as long as nobody is actually being injured in the process (which is the case so far as I can tell at the moment of this writing). Whoever lights the match can be cited for an illegal fire or whatever, but that's a different issue. Obama was burned in effigy plenty of times. He was also a target at shooting ranges. Let's see where this really goes before getting too worked up about it. The flip side of this protest coverage are the reports I'm seeing from perfectly average people who were going about their business as usual today and were accosted by Trump Bros in Red Hats grabbing women by the genitals and punching "fags" in the face all because their guy won and they're "in charge now." Check twitter for some of those reports. 4. Do you remember when Obama won, Obamacare passed, and Texas threatened to secede? You're right. "Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Same thing. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  5. You seem to be confused. This had nothing to do with my support, or lack of, for Trump. Simply what I felt were the odds of him being able to win given his lack of experience and other factors. jcd11235 and I had a few go 'rounds about it. I was wrong and he, as it turns out was right. Nothing more or less. Nothing you've mentioned is relevant to the conversation here. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  6. Unfortunately, last night a significant number of people in the US sided with a leader who has repeatedly demonstrated "payback" as an SOP. The biggest fear is it will spread and grow. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  7. There was a stunning "On the Media" interview with Beck by Bob Garfield. I went into listening to the interview with a heavy dose of skepticism, but by the end of it I sort of got what Beck was attempting to do and felt he got treated a bit unfairly by Garfield. "On the Media" - November 4, 2016 http://www.wnyc.org/story/on-the-media-2016-11-04 What will be interesting and telling will be to hear what Beck has to say in the next few weeks now that Trump is President-elect. Will Beck attempt to continue to wake up the Republican party to "classic conservatism," or will he now fold and greet Trump with open arms? Beck has set himself up to be seen as a disingenuous person either way. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  8. You were right. I was wrong. I said he had zero chance of winning. OMG. WTF. I have never been more wrong about anything in my entire life. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  9. Rush, I have searched. The fact is a person will find nothing whatsoever if using any of the words you used to search on WikiLeaks. What that means is your source isn't WikiLeaks at all. I have a feeling it's either "Tyler Durden" on the web site Zero Hedge or some other web site which is copy/pasting him. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-05/leaked-email-exposes-hillarys-campaign-paying-bill-clintons-legal-fees Here's are some things you need to know about that; "Tyler Durden" is the editorial staff at Zero Hedge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Hedge Read up a bit and you'll see Zero Hedge has a horrible track record of being completely honest. What's more is, the article is drawing supposition from an email forward chain from the WikiLeaks Podesta dumps involving an invoice and a charge. In fact, the article admits it is supposition. Quoting from the article; In other words, they have no actual evidence whatsoever that anything improper took place. Now, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe you DO have some proof of your claim. I'd love to see it. Want to prove me wrong? Want to prove you have something to back up your claim? Show it. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  10. Laughably defensive there, Rush. Really, just show us what you read to make you believe and then type what you did. Simple. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  11. Any 2nd year law student would make him look ridiculous. I was thinking more along the lines of a high school civics class, but it's been decades since I've been in one and maybe they don't teach the basics of how evidence works any more. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  12. No. Sir, that's not how it works. YOU made the claim, YOU provide the evidence. Until YOU provide the evidence it is at best a wild assed rumor. Yes sir. That is how it f****** works. When it comes to billvon on you don't give a damn what he post. Look it up for yourself and you'll see what I said is right. And I don't give a damn what you say. Otherwise you're just lazy Rush, I hope for your sake you never end up in a court of law anywhere. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  13. No. Sir, that's not how it works. YOU made the claim, YOU provide the evidence. Until YOU provide the evidence it is at best a wild assed rumor. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  14. We do? Since you're making this claim, please provide your evidence. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  15. I believe that is commonly known as a 'scorched earth' attitude. Another variation is the "some men just want to watch the world burn." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efHCdKb5UWc I was, however, attempting to quote a recent analysis of Assange by Glenn Greenwald. I might have gotten it wrong, but it was the jist. I'm looking for the conversation. Edited to add Found it. https://theintercept.com/2016/10/19/is-disclosure-of-podestas-emails-a-step-too-far-a-conversation-with-naomi-klein/ quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  16. At best though, it can only ever uncover that which was deemed unimportant enough to not be dealt with securely. Except when you have someone with secure access who decides to open the windows on the WHOLE damn system, regardless of what all is there and who it could get killed. Taking that info from Snowden and just letting it all out without looking at what they had was reckless. If Assange wanted to maintain his credibility in exposing corruption or bad practices, he would have culled the information and published only what was pertinent. I think you're confusing Snowden with Manning. The release of the Snowden material was (still is) very carefully curated and heavily redacted by Glenn Greenwald of "The Guardian", now of "The Intercept." As far as I can tell, it has been handled meticulously. Assange/WikiLeaks has zero to do with Snowden material. I agree the Manning release by WikiLeaks was handled irresponsibly. That said, the Manning release would not have been possible if the material had not been stored in plain text. Had it been encrypted with forward secure methods, it never would have been able to have been released in readable form. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  17. At best though, it can only ever uncover that which was deemed unimportant enough to not be dealt with securely. A smart, corrupt government would simply require forward secure methods used by all of the inner circle. It doesn't even have to be hard. OpenPGP and Signal (both freely available) would shut WikiLeaks down if properly used and corruption could remain secret. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  18. There isn't nor can there ever be. I posed this question to some other people recently; Anybody want to take a swing at that? How could you possibly prove you didn't send a email? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  19. Julian has lost his way. When he started WikiLeaks his concept was corruption could be limited if those in authority believed that at any moment their private correspondence could be leaked to the world. It was a flawed concept from the get go, but his heart was in the right place. Over the years and due to his self-exile to the Ecuadorian Embassy in London he's developed a "burn it all down" attitude. The flaw in his strategy from the get go was not recognizing the most corrupt would simply move their communications to more secure and forward secure methods. What would remain would mostly be softer targets less concerned about day-to-day communications and more concerned with simply getting things done. Yes, it takes time to secure every email a person sends and sometimes it's just not worth it even if it would mean that at some future date it might be a bit embarrassing. The sad part of this is a data breach of one person can lead to another data breach and so on. A hack of the DNC leads to a hack on Podesta which drags in people who really have no relationship to corruption at all. This is my beef with WikiLeaks in general; they release massive amounts of un-redacted material which harms completely innocent 3rd parties. Exposing a corrupt official -- I have no problem with. Three hacks down the line publishing the names and other personal information of innocent third parties? Nope. That's no longer journalism. It's essentially terrorism. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  20. THAT is fucking insane. Reading the article it sounds like the issue was the Judge (law itself?), required unanimous decision on all counts and some of the jurors were just being jerks from the get go. Still, fucking insane. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  21. ^^^ Maddow did a reasonable segment on that yesterday (or was it the day before?). Yeah, it will be interesting to see if this stops the intimidation efforts this year and what happens next. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  22. I heard an interview with one today, on NPR. She said she was voting for Trump because "I like what he stands for". A Vermonter. Yeah, I think I heard the same interview. It still makes no sense. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  23. I find it difficult to wrap my mind around there currently being _any_ female Republican voters. I KNOW they exist. I see them in my social media feeds. I just find it incomprehensible. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
  24. In addition to the above, make participants of the debates swear under oath they're telling the truth. Make them subject to perjury laws. ;) Shortest. Most careful. Debates. Ever. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
