IMO - anyone serious about it would start locally - since the electoral votes belong to the states, then the place to start is to convince your specific state to move to proportional disty of their electoral votes. I think most of the people who have been saying for decades that the electoral college is dysfunctional realize it's just not going to happen at the federal level due to Constitutional issues. To wit, it would literally take an Amendment to the US Constitution to do it, and since whoever gets the power tends to stay in power it's extraordinarily unlikely it would ever get a 2/3rds in one of the houses of Congress or the 3/4th of states to ratify. There are other ways to get around it. One such method is the "National Popular Vote Interstate Compact." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

If only that benefited anyone besides the person she sleeps with. In fact, it's a huge detriment to most females who don't rate high enough of the Trump scale of "beauty" and therefore worth. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

If it walks like a duck, and it talks like a duck, it's probably a duck. BTW, in case you've missed the subtext, duck equals racist white nationalist shit bag. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I think the issue here is an incomplete understanding of the electoral college as designed and what it has become. The electoral college was intended to have each of its electors vote however they want. That went out the door about 10 years after it went into place when states started binding their electors to each state's individual popular vote. As originally intended it tried to spread the power among the states. As it has evolved it effectively removed power from more populous states and has over emphasized smaller "swing" states from a strictly game theory point of view. High population states like California (which is more likely to vote Democrat) and Texas (which is more likely to vote Republican) are essentially taken out of the equation. It's a messed up system which tends to be promoted by those who it benefits depending on the particular election, so it's almost certain not to be changed, but it's a fucked up system you'd never put into place today if you were starting from scratch because it just doesn't make sense in the 21st century. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Pardon my French, but I'm going to go off on a little rant here. Ya know what kind of pisses me off in the coverage of the aftermath of this cluster fuck? It's the media saying it is "the white working class" that elected Trump. No. It wasn't. I'm reasonably certain I just finished my 12 hour day. It was pretty much the same as a lot of people I know. We all fucking work for a living. We're not the rich. We're not the poor. We're snowy fucking white, we work for a god damn living, and I'm reasonably sure most of us didn't vote for Trump. And that's not just the specific office I worked in today, but a lot of offices, and small business, across a good number of states. Just not the states so damn Republican they would have voted for virtually anyone other than Hillary. And not the swing states. Are they suggesting a state like California, with the 8th largest economy on the planet doesn't fucking work? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

CBS put it back. They got caught with their pants down doing editing again Oh FFS. You literally can not tell fact from fiction in your post-truth world. The Trump statement absolutely was in the original broadcast. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I also feel it's my duty to "spy" on the extremes in an attempt to see their points of view and possibly explain them to others who don't. I'm clearly not successful with some extremists. Some just don't want to listen no matter the facts. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

This is the truly scary thing about a Trump Presidency. It's not just Trump, but all the right wing extremists he plans to put in power under him. Trump might not be Hitler, but Bannon is pretty close to Goebbels. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Largest factor in decline of manufacturing jobs?

Not even close, Rush. Not even close. http://www.bls.gov/spotlight/2008/around_the_world/ http://ww2.kqed.org/lowdown/2013/05/17/who-made-your-t-shirt-the-hidden-cost-of-cheap-fashion/ http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/16/manufacturing-around-the-world/?_r=0 http://www.bain.com/Images/BB_Making_move_low-cost_countries.pdf And if you want to see what it's like to work where a lot of US jobs went . . . https://youtu.be/lKseBx1YPgo Is that really how you envision the US? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver -

Nonsense. When you can ship the job overseas for 1/8th the cost or you can replace a human with a robot which can perform a job at 1/3rd the cost of the human and do it without 24 hours a day, no amount of cuts in pay/benefits, tax reduction, nor cuts in regulation will ever be able to compete with that. I mean, unless you're willing to turn the US into a 3rd world country. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver -
As are the "safe space" neo-Nazi compounds in Idaho. Yep one no better than the other. Yet, I've never seen you criticize the neo-nazi compounds or citizen militia compounds or . . . quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Not particularly. I just find it hilarious (not really) that it's exactly what the white nationalist movement also is trying to do yet they bitch about it like, uh, whiney bitches. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I'm unclear why the alt-right, far-right, Trump supporters continuously bag on the phrase "safe space." Isn't that precisely what they're all trying to do with the entire country; make it a "safe space" for themselves where no one will ever challenge their point of view? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Not until January 20th according to protocol. Until then he's President-elect Trump. If anyone is calling him President Trump today, they're ill informed. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

We are specifically talking about the words people have used. As usual, you have nothing whatsoever to back up your claims. As usual you avoid the point No, Rush. That IS the point. With Trump you have words and accusations With Clinton you have known actions. No Rush, we do not have "known actions" of Clinton sexually assaulting women. Seduction? Perhaps. Not turning down that which was offered to him? Perhaps. Allegations? Sure. Proof of sexual assault? No. quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

There is a difference between getting vulgar in the hypothetical sense (gee, I'd love to fuck that), and bragging about sexually assaulting random females as an actual fact; something he has done (grab 'em by the pussy). While I agree both men and women can be extremely vulgar, very few of either brag about sexually assaulting people and being able to get away with it just because they're rich and powerful. Are you talking about Bill Clinton? Because we know he did. Did he? You want to show me any proof whatsoever he ever bragged about sexually assaulting women? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Talk about negative stereotyping. "All men" don't do anything just as "all women" don't do anything beyond basic biological functions. As for unwanted objectification, unwanted touching, fondling, harassment, rape if it were reported more often people doing those behaviors would eventually stop or be caught/charged. At the same time, if a claim made is proven to be false (higher standard than defendant not guilty) , that person making it should be charged as well. To be fair, I don't think she said, "all men." I think she's also addressing the 53% of all white women who voted for Trump. http://www.cnn.com/election/results/exit-polls/national/president quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

And until this last month Nate Silver was considered a indisputable genius too. Just sayin'. Ah, well, go ahead and wallow in your liberal tears then. There's nothing "liberal" about the above. Zero.
