Sure they do, but I'd prefer to adopt a dog who sits in a kennel all day with no feeling of "home" than a dog who is at a breeders home with a person caring for it like it was their own and profiting by adding to the already overgrown population of pets. And, a breeder isn't going to kill a dog that someone doesn't adopt in a week.

I don't know? Can anybody answer that? Somehow I don't think her fan base of kids and pre-teens is reading Vanity Fair. I don't read Vanity Fair and I've seen the pictures.

Without the right breeding, the cat (or small rat like dog) will taste stringy and require an excess of seasoning before being used in stews and the like. I hate when that happens.

Exactly. She is a child not an adult, and in my opinion, should not be taking adult oriented photographs for a magazine. What kind of message is she sending to her peers and fans?

And I got a great dog from a reputable breeder, with a fantastic temperment, and donated about a thousand dollars toward the expenses they incur by breeding ethically. Sounds like we both got lucky. Blues, Dave Is there a reason you would rather buy from a breeder than rescue a dog that might otherwise not find a home?

Huh, that's interesting. I saved a great dog from a rescue, with a fantastic temperment, and I saved myself at least a thousand dollars. I'm probably just lucky, though.

He's adorable and I wish you the best of luck in the contest, but I'm not going to enter my e-mail so I can vote and then have my inbox full of spam. -

Would you like to help me find a "free" devon rex cat to rescue? We'd like to have a second of the breed. And they really should be paired. lol, you're not going to find a rescue that adopts animals out for "free". Why? Because animal health care is not free. It's not like rescues pick up dogs and cats off the street and adopt them out that day. They get shots, de-wormed, spayed neutered, etc. and that costs money. Anyway, it took me all of 2 seconds to find these: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10689356 http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10669607 look around.

A certain temperment? What kind of temperment can someone guarantee when you get a puppy from them? Getting from a breeder if you want to show, I can agree with. What certain types of health problems can breeders guarantee against?

Not my style, but congrats!

What about using a spork?

That sucks! How did she crash?

Absolutely--or wait long enough (nearly every shelter has wait lists for specific breeds). I actually meant to adopt an older one and ended up with 1-year-old Cruz (his age at the time, and that wasn't his kennel-name). I also meant to adopt a smaller dog. But, I'm sure some others will understand when I say: Often you don't pick them; they pick you. Anyways, I'd really love the next new member of the Fuzzy Butts to be older--like four to seven years.

OK, now I'm confused, since you said this in the Bengal/Toyger thread: "If I were to ever get a cat again it would be a hard choice between a purebred seal point siamese and a bengal." Or is it that you would plan to get a purebred animal from some sort of rescue shelter? Like an older animal that was no longer wanted? Yes, I would rescue one, but not neccesarily an older one (although I'm not opposed). You can find young purebreds of anything if you look hard/long enough.
-
It could be both!

This post has a lot of potential to turn really ugly. I am 100% for rescue animals and I shake my head at people who buy from breeder/store/mill (unless you are showing). That's all I'm going to say (for now).

...... you're exaggerating right?

Who the hell still uses 800x600?

I am almost sure that is not serious. But hilarious nonetheless. I wouldn't want to be your friend either. jk

Everyone who chose "never" is full of shit.

Oh man! Bengals are awesome. If I were to ever get a cat again it would be a hard choice between a purebred seal point siamese and a bengal.

He WOULD have if he was staying in said relationship, but since he's leaving, good on him. -
Imagine that. If he's like me, he likes to pay his bills. Wouldn't that be the people sending donations paying his bills? Kinda like my clients paying my bills, or my husbands boss paying my husbands bills. Yup, same thing. It doesn't grow on trees. lol
