Is it just me, or does that photo remind anyone else of Dilbert's Boss ?? _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I thought you were staying away from the thighs now that you are getting that in a 6-pack. Kevin _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I once heard Bill Booth say-although I don't think he originated it; "Years ago, you knew you were growing up when you could tie your own shoes and tell time. Now, we have velcro shoes and digital watches." This was years ago, and you don't see so many velcro shoes, but still an interesting thought. Cool. Thanks. Yeah, that ski sure does its best to get involved in the deployment of the canopy - certainly would have been an unusual malfunction. Here's some more from a site about the jump: ---------- In his audio-commentary, Roger Moore comments on the opening parachute ski-jump that could have gone horribly wrong for stuntman Rick Sylvester. After the jump, a disengaged ski clipped the unopened chute as it was falling. The ski could could easily have prevented the chute from opening. It can still be seen in the final footage that the ski clips the about-to-open parachute. Rick Sylvester was paid $30,000 for the skiing stunt in the opening sequence. An advertisement inspired the famous opening skiing sequence. It was for Canadian Club Whisky and featured Rick Sylvester jumping off Asgard in Greenland. The ad had actually been staged elsewhere and had really been performed off the El Capitain Peak, Yosemite Valley, California. The ad read: "If you Space Ski Mount Asgard...before you hit the ground, hit the silk!". Sylvester performed the stunt for the film which famously ended with a parachute of the Union Jack opening. This opening sequence was recently parodied in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and was imitated with the air balloon in Octopussy (1983) and paid homage to in the Gustav Graves parachute drop in Die Another Day (2002). Sylvester also did the Meteora mountain fall in For Your Eyes Only (1981). The famous Union Jack parachute ski jump stunt during the film's pre-title sequence was (reportedly) originally suggested by former Bond star George Lazenby to be used in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), but the necessary equipment to film it was not available then. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Rick Sylvester donned skis for the breathtaking ski jump that has been ranked among the ten best stunts ever captured on film. The cliff was Asgard Peak on Baffin Island in Northern Canada. Sylvester, second unit director John Glen, and 14 crew members braved freezing temperatures and snowstorms for 10 days while waiting for a perfect opportunity to make the jump. (An excellent account of this stunt can be found under the entry "The Asgard Jump" in Steven J. Rubin's "The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia.") _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I believe it was either a Piglet main or some sort of modified reserve that was used. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Are you working today ? If so, are you doing meaningful, productive stuff, or just screwing off till the end of the week ? I predict that this will go up dramatically tomorrow. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

I think you made the wrong choice. I think you were high enough to cutaway, as long as everything goes right. However, I think that cutting away from line twists was unnecessary. This is just my opinion, and obviously, I did not see the configuration of the canopy. Most simple line twists (i.e. without turns or spins) will come out on their own with no problems. You should be able to analyze the problem quickly, and make a decision. Your decision was OK, however, given the fact that reserves are not perfect, why chop for a fixable anomoly ? This is only my opinion, so I urge all students to heed their training and their instructors' advice. However, you, Mikhail, having considered yourself bad-ass enough to smoke it low, should be up to understanding and operating your parachute. I consider chopping simple line twists to be like chopping for a brake fire rather than simply unstowing the other brake. It's a very amateurish move. Please understand. I congratulate your successful EP implementation and survival, but you asked for brutal honesty. Now I will undoutedly receive the same from our learned colleagues. I've always thought it was dumb to say that some jumper, "...died doing what they loved...", but if she had gone in, I guess that would be true. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

It's a good thing that these two were not on the same load. It could have been very disruptive. Do you know of this occurrance because of their outward behavior (howling, moaning, etc.), or did they maintain their composure and tell about this after the jump? I've often thought this would be possible if they were they sitting in that "special" place on a Skyvan where the vibrations through the seat are particularly amplified. This thread may be the hit of the Holidays. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Either compromise on your "dream designer colors" and "perfect fit", or shell out for a new suit. Keep looking. Sometimes a suit that's a little big can be altered. And colors don't always have to match. Buy used and save your money for jumps. Become a good skydiver, rather than a fasion model who can't turn a point. Corliss Is Really Going To Jump W.O. Parachute
kkeenan replied to ryguy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
heh heh. I don't know why but thats really funny to me, in a spy vs spy kind of way. ouch... So, to be sporty, Corliss can drape his landing ramp with camoflage netting, making it invisible from the air. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ? -
That's always the question, isn't it? Lucky for those of us who like "Big-Ways" of all sorts, there's always that next level. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

Most of the CRWDogs have seen this photo, but I thought it would be of general interest to other skydivers. Here's an interesting perspective on the recent CRW 100-Way built in Florida a couple weeks ago. As you can see, there are a lot of lines, fabric, and people all tied together. Most of the folks look pretty relaxed, which belies the high pucker factor of a dive like this. Kevin K. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
