  1. Yes, facts trump feelings. Two problems: First, for too many anti-gun pro-government-control types, they do let their feelings overrule the facts. Second, even if they do keep their feelings out of it, they either
  2. It's far too accessible. It scars and kills hundreds of thousands every year. It destroys our parks and natural resources. Any loony or felon can get it or make their own. Clearly We Need Common Sense Legislation To Control This Dangerous Item. Yes, we need to curtail Fire Rights. We need Burn Control legislation in congress, now. For the children. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. I was referring to the specific issues of budgeting and managing resources. Government has never been able to match private industry in that area. But obviously there are areas that are the domain of government. Providing for the common defense, regulating commerce between the states, providing courts to protect citizens rights. You know, the whole constitutional thing. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. I still don't understand why Honda took back and scrapped all those electric CRVs. I know a guy who had one and loved it, and that was tech from years ago. I have to think they could only do better today. But these smart cars and tiny little leafs hold no appeal for me in private use. I wouldn't mind it for work, but it'd never make the grade for a personally owned vehicle. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. Not everyone Bill. Personally the only thing I want more of from the government is more protections of liberty and personal freedom. There are a lot of things I want less of: intrusion into personal matters, debt spending, federalization of jobs the private sector can accomplish as well or better, etc etc. I wouldn't mind a flat tax. I wouldn't mind staying with a system like what we've got now (I do despise the estate tax though). I wouldn't mind significant cuts to programs across the board. Look at cities and businesses. Their biggest expenses in mist cases are pensions and benefits. Who thinks the government is somehow going to come up with a better solution than the entire private sector? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. That's easy. The answer is always "more." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. Not really. It's just painfully redundant and repetative and excessive and superfluous and... you get the idea. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. Ransom against the threat of burning it, sinking it, etc. Government and big corporations pay these guys off all the time. Nobody seems to takes it seriously around here until Americans are held hostage. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. instead of "make love not war," I prefer the slogan in the pic below. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. Do you really believe that a nerf toy that flilngs ping pong balls qualifies as an imitation firearm? What makes this a gun or weapon that falls under the zero tolerance policy set out by the school board? Calling the toy an imitation implies that it somehow was similar to a gun, or meant to resemble it. The school administrator DECIDED that this toy fit the definition of of gun or weapon under the zero tolerance policy. I think we all agree zero tolerance policies are idiotic. The point I'm making here is that the school administrator, in choosing to apply the foolish policy to this situation, made a foolsih decision. Or do you think nerf puts out ping pong flingers that imitate firearms? The child should have been reprimanded for bringing an inappropriate toy to school. He should not have been labeled a threat, arrested, and suspended from school. All that could have been done while adherring to the zero tolerance policy by simply recognizing that the toy was not a gun, weapon, or imitation of either. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  11. It seems that you don't understand the concept of ZERO. As in ZERO tolerance POLICY. Zero tolerance for weapons and imitation firearms. I highly doubt they have a zero tolerance policy for nerf toys. Convenient how you leave out the part of my post showing what he brought in and what the police charged him with, at the school officials request. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. Why, because it's where Hitler came to power, or because of the Nlack September terrorists, or something else? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. We already know there's no logic or reason to their obsession with guns, but what really worries me is that know they're leaving the banned guns list up to a non elected bureaucrat running the state police. Considering how they already require registration, it won't be long until we see another confiscation of formerly legal firearms. Private property? Second amendment? Significant government interest justifying the restriction? Ha! Not in this life, not in that state. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. What's funny? Are you saying there aren't liberal republicans and conservative democrats out there? And have you forgotten that state bureaucrats make the rules that school districts have to follow, or that it is the responsibility of principals and administrators to enforce the rules reasonably and intelligently? Tell me professor, how many nerf-like guns would qualify as a look-alike firearm? Do try to understand, the school officials are the ones who called the police, and the superintendent is the one supporting this, if not doing it himself. Don't cop out and only blame the school board for this. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Interesting Outdoors Column So firearms and archery are being used to teach youth discipline, control, and respect. And then we have NY legislators and the governor doing their best to show disrespect to their constituents. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Joe+McCarthy Really wishing I had that pic of Bart Simpson at the chalk board. "I will use google before asking stupid questions." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. For as much as McCarthy was a freaky paranoided headcase, that doesn't mean he was entirely wrong, either, as born out by documents and interviews from both sides after the cold war "ended." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. This sort of unlogic is not really uncommon in lots of third world shitholes that are having issues. The trouble with these guys doing it is that is has global implications through the use of religion, rather than just national or regional issues. What commentary that is on the religion is more than one doctoral thesis to discuss (and tough to do without getting called an infidel, a racist, or other less than complimentary names). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. What you seem to missing is that, while Mark hasn't converted to Islam and begun thinking as Kuwaitis think, he isn't demanding they accept him building a church, spouting off that their country is the devil, or why everything they do is wrong and how they should become like him. If he did, you might see the contrasts in both recognized freedoms and judicial systems between countries. I wood also wager that he is picking up the language and customs. I'd bet they are not his, but he'll work to fi in while he's there. Do I think folks coming to America should be allowed to bring their values and culture with them? Absolutely. But they shouldn't get pissed off (and neither should their PC cheerleaders) when folks who live here, and have their own culture, push back. Germany even more so, as they are a much older culture with and much more solid and defined identity. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Really? The town council are all independants last I was there. They have reps to the state houses with (R) after their name, but let's be honest, this is New Jersey, where republicans are more liberal than many places' democrats. (one more reason to hate the false dichotomy of left vs right and D vs R). Also, those kcal policies are required to comply with state rules and regs, as set by the DoEd, which is run by once of the most liberal state governments in the country. Finally, as this is related to irrational fear and loathing o firearms and weapons control policies, can you really argue that that doesn't fall squarely under today's D party platform? ps - you'll find that I never said anything about left vs right or D vs R in the OP or anywhere else in this thread. Trivial pursuit factoid: Hammonton is the most "Italian" place in the country. Of course that means there are more Jersey Shore wannabe imports than most other places. Lord will I e happy when those over-helped jaeger swilling coke fueled investors are off the air. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. Legally protected from government action is a very different standard from appropriate and allowed in these forums. No matter his true it is or isn't. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Gotcha. I agree for the most part. I like the laws of NC related to sentencing. I think they're a little light on repeat misd offenders, but overall they make good sense. They use matrices for misd, dwi, and felonies. There wasn't anything fair about fair sentencing, so they came to this set, structured sentencing. Now we have a habitual felon charge, habitual DWI, and habitual misd assault. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Well it looks like the British PM agrees with you, at least in concept. UK's Cameron: Europe must wake up on extremism 'We need to be a lot less tolerant towards Islamic extremists': Cameron calls for immigrants to respect British core values State multiculturalism has failed, says David Cameron witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. Don't get me started on another thread drift on the sheer idiocy of basing statutory law on the rules of baseball. I'm not a fan of California's three strikes law, but I do approve of habitual felon laws. If anfrlon doesn't stop after two or three prior convictions, why should the court expect he will change? Why shouldn't he face increased sanctions for repeated criminal violations? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. I don't know David, but it sounds like he has never (A) been tested and found his own answer (B) had the ability to affect others significantly, or (C) held a position where his conduct reflected on others. As someone who has worn a badge, I can tell you that it actually works a check on the person wearing it. It's a reminder that there is more riding on you than your own reputation and conscience. When you carry a badge, your actions reflect on every other badge, and you carry a larger responsibility to the department, the public, and to fellow officers. I've heard some folks say carrying concealed cab have a similar effect because any confrontation can be worse with a gun involved. That's why officers hate corrupt cops. They make every officer look bad. Whenever I see video of an officer striking a cuffed suspect, or stealing, or lying, it makes me sick and I hope the bastard is punished accordingly. I don't see any value in a person not being able to control themselves, I hope they will learn discipline pride an self control, and hope to God they never become and officer. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
