  2. Hi Keith, A little more on this problem: "We need to get the younger community involved so that we don't have the Republicans railroad us." Democrats wrestle with 'geriatric problem' I think most of us already know this. The problem is how to convince those old folks in Congress. Since they will not leave on their own [ think Strom Thurmond ], we need to vote them out. Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi John, Good luck; my daughter says that the stores are out of it since this all started. Jerry Baumchen

  6. Hi Keith, Talk about timing; I just got an email from these folks: Pass the torch, Joe! Petition Time to get rid of the old, no longer needed stuff. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Keith, Re: In my opinion, the insurance companies are trying to offload their responsibilities and dump on FEMA. IMO no insurance company can afford to insure houses in known disaster areas. The continual costs are simply too much. Either build houses that can better withstand what comes at them; or, move elsewhere. Jerry Baumchen PS) I bought my current house about 30 yrs ago, it was built in 1983. A number of years after I moved in, a house east of me flooded; he had a daylight basement that filled with water from a creek behind his house. There was a berm there to protect the house; but, the water came over the berm. At the time I thought, 'You poor, bugger.' He repaired the house. Then a number of years later, once again, the water came over the berm and flooded his daylight basement again. Then, about 5 years later the house was being torn down. Since I am the curious type, I stopped and asked the demo crew what was going on. Turns out the home-owner was an attorney. After the 2nd flooding, he sued the city for issuing a building permit in a flood zone. The city capitulated and bought him out. He was not the original owner so he claimed he did not know about the problem when he bought the house. Sometimes moving is the better option.
  8. Hi John, Ever read the book or watch the movie Elmer Gantry? Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi Nigel, And, he is the most God-less President in my lifetime. Sheesh, Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi John, As I have been saying, Trump is the typical school yard bully. When push comes to shove, they usually chicken out. So far, Trump is following the script. IMO Trump is scared shitless of Putin; and Xi also. What is it that they say in Texas: All hat and no horse. Jerry Baumchen
  11. Hi folks, Does this really surprise anyone: President Trump pardoned Paul Walczak, . . . one month after his mother attended a major fundraiser for the president Trump's pardon of Paul Walczak follows to mother's fundraising: report Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hi John. From your link: the play depicts a world of the future where a small elite controls the mass media, keeping the lower classes docile by serving them an endless diet of lowest common denominator programmes and pornography I think we are very close to there. As soon as Trump/Miller can control the media, it is all over. Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi Joe, Oh, crap, more unemployment. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi Joe, Re: ‘This wasn’t supposed to happen.’ I'm thinking this might just be the legacy of Trump 2.0. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi folks, Re: Original Sin (Tapper and Thompson book) - Wikipedia As I have posted a number of times, WASHINGTON WEEK on PBS, is one of my favorite tv programs. The show this week had Jake Tapper & Alex Thompson, the two authors, as the only guests. Biden's decline was the subject of the entire show. I highly recommend that you try to watch it. Jerry Baumchen PS) I am on the Request list for this book at my local library. I look forward to reading it.

  18. Hi Tanya, There are a LOT of narrow-minded people in this country. Jerry Baumchen
  19. Hi Bill, Re: the US has lost its AAA credit rating from all three rating organizations It is because every CongressCritter knows that he/she has to bring home the pork to get re-elected. Until this changes, and I doubt that it ever will, this problem will just grow & grow. Jerry Baumchen

  24. Hi Ken, Back then, Biden was what I did not want on the ticket. But, he got the nomination; then, it was a no-brainer on who I would be voting for. In 2024, I supported Biden, until he opened his mouth at the debate. I immediately knew that he could not win. As many people have said: Politics is not for the faint of heart. Strom Thurmond, RBG, Biden, Feinstein; an infinite list. It is ruining this country. Jerry Baumchen
  25. Hi Mark & Joe, I think most of us realized Biden was old, but I also think we were somewhat dishonestly misled about how bad he was getting. Old and demented as Biden might be I still believe he'd be better than Trump. Unfortunately it is that shallow belief that blinded me to the reality that he is old and demented and no one I should have supported in 2024. I too think Biden would be better than what we have now; hell, just about anyone would be better. IMO the real crime is the cover-up of Biden's condition. I think the up-coming Jake Tapper book is going to be very interesting reading. And, when we talk about those who hang on way too long; let us not forget RGB, she got us Trump's three picks on the Supremes.
