Well we still have people reacting to 9-11. 3000 people died a horrifying event off course but when you think we have killed 10 to 100 times that amount just in Iraq you might be able to put it in perspective. The American populace is paranoid because they have never had to deal with such events. So in a way I understand the paranoia yet at the same time if you are looking at the world and peoples reactions or over reactions we are the kings. I think this is just a byproduct of living in a great safe country. What I do however not understand is how so many fail to react or easily excuse the massive loss of humane life we are responsible for. I think these are scary times because people are very likely to over react. We have way to many people who have zero facts and basically run on fear. I know a few of my GF friends who don’t know me at all just know that I was born in Iran have asked her “ are you sure he is not a terrorist?” That’s not a joke it has happened many times. Whenever you have ignorance, paranoia, and sheep mentality combined bad things happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day there is a lynchmob out side my house just because I am brown. I always find the movie action hero way of thinking as the dimmest view of the world. First if you want to nuke a country that has been a place for the terrorist or Islamic radicals; you would have to start by nuking the president’s best buddy’s country. The Arabs have so much money they own him so that will not happen. I would hope the world and most Americans would not just sit there and allow there country to destroy yet another country that poses ZERO threat to our home land, but then again we do have a lot of stupid people. A lot of it depends on what you study, but I would not take higher education lightly it is a huge door opener. I dropped out of Business school for the chance to own my own company thought it was a great idea, but now with a failing economy and me having to look for a new job I realize there is nothing like an education. They simply can not take it away from you, and it is a door opener. By the time I try to explain that I have done every thing related to running a business the guy with the degree gets the interview, the job, and the higher pay. Going to school specially for people of middle class or lower is the best way to secure a good life. Do not kid your self there are plenty of people who have been successful without higher education, but IMHO there is no easier way then going to school to guaranty you have a good future. I wish every responsible adult was armed. In a classroom where the teacher is armed you will have a lot less chance of a student being able to systematically execute their classmates. I bet if everyone in the US could never have afforded cars we all would be riding bikes, and would think that was fine. I don’t think there is one answer. I think it is a combination of things. We work work, and work. I have had ten days vacation in the past 4 years. I have not even been back to see my family in Iran because I can not take more then 5 days of at a time. Our standard of living is high and it is easy for most of us to live beyond are means. So we stretch out our income as much as we can. ($3000 TV $30 bucks a month Great !) that stuff adds up. We dispose of our disposable income very quickly we have many options. Geography works both ways. Yes we are far away from Europe but we also have every thing in the US (maybe not the exact same thing). We have deserts, mountains, Lakes, oceans and you can live anywhere you want. Also the Caribbean is very close. I personally have no desire to go to Europe not because I hate it but just because there are so many other places I would rather go first. Also when you are very comfortable you don’t always feel the need to move as much. Loved COD 4, but I play on xbox360. Now I can’t stop playing bad company don’t know if it is out for PS3 but basically same game. I have had personal experience with some fucked up things I have seen cops do. So I am not even thinking of the media but shit I have seen with my own eyes. I have seen cops pull over my black friends just for being black. I was in the car. This has happened so many times I can’t even give you a number. I have seen cops pull over a white and a black friend, white guy driving. Then they asked the black passenger to sit on the curb and told the white guy be careful whom you hang out with. The black guy was a college student from out of town. So he was not local criminal they knew but just a black guy to them. I have had a cop in my face trying to provoke me so he could arrest me, and I handled him as calmly as possible. He was in my face cursing and acting nuts. I have seen cops do a lot of fucked up things with my own eyes, and they have always gotten away with it. Being a cop allows you to do things that normal people would go to jail for. Speed, drive drunk, use drugs, and yes sometimes shoot people who were no threat. I know people who are truly proud to be a cop they are there to protect and serve. They take pride in what it means to be a cop. At the same time I know a lot of people who became cops just for the power trip and the money where I used to live was more then you can imagine. I think Dave the problem is when there have been problems the punishments if any have not fit the crime committed. The cops get a slap on the wrist and it is always the same excuse. Because of the stress of their job they are excused form abuse or murder. That whole club mentality and protecting your own no matter what is right has ruined the reputation or at least made it questionable for me. Having a stressful job that you signed up for does not excuse one for murdering someone. Now if they would have punished the people who shot a dude over 40 times then yes there is a few bad ones, but when the so called good ones protected the bad ones then they become a conspirator, and in my eye equally guilty. I don’t know what your feelings are but I believe Police officers should be held to a higher standard not a lower one. If you have ever had an issue with a cop and try to do something about it you realize that the whole system is fucked. The people your spouse to complain too are usually just trying to see you go away and always look at you like you’re lying. I didn’t see the officer give the guy a warning or even ask him to pull over, fuck the cop didn’t even raise his hands to say stop. He just tackled the guy who looks like a young kid or a young adult at best. Who knows maybe the guy on the bike had a bigger dick then cop.
