  2. Bill, you're a smart guy, and I'd like to respond, but I'm too busy standing outside my trailer in the Perris Ghetto waving the flag . . . NickD

  5. Oh, one more baby, just one more . . . If Webb (D) cleans Allen (R) in Virginia we have the House AND the Senate! Happy days are here again . . . NickD
  6. I don't get it . . . Why not have William Shatner play Kirk, and Leonard Nimoy play Spock? I mean if they were dead, fine, but they aren't. Anything else, would be like re-making "Gone with the Wind" with Britney as Scarlett and 50 Cent as Rhett . . . Hey, maybe I got something there! NickD
  7. Jessi wasn't using the line-mod on the advice of Andy who didn't believe in it . . . NickD
  8. Well, I awoke to a newspaper and the headline proclaiming "Our Long National Nightmare is Over . . ." Finally, Americans spoke up! Tired of a President who tramples the U.S. Constitution he swore to defend, tired of the war, tired of back room deals, lies, and a Republican machine that sought to destroy the reputations of its enemies with no regard for the truth. Never again will the people get caught napping. Never again will we let apathy prevent us from paying attention. Yes, that was the headline which ran in many newspapers on August 8, 1974 describing the resignation of President Richard Nixon . . . Over the last six years we, or at last count 57 percent of us, have had to re-live that nightmare because despite how impossible it sounds we forgot the lessons of Richard Nixon and went to sleep again. But it wasn't exactly the same this time. During the Nixon years we were too naive and too trusting of government and we could be forgiven for that, this time around we were just plain stupid. It will take years to repair the damage that Bush (I'm a uniter, not a divider) has done, it will take years to restore our credibility (Saddam + Iraq = the World Trade Center) in the world, and it will take years for our military to recover from being jerked around by someone who deserted the military himself but now proclaims himself a "war president" like we wouldn't notice he manufactured the invasion of Iraq (they tried to kill my father). So goodbye and fuck you Newt Gingridge, goodbye and fuck you to the religious fundies who have no business in our bedrooms, and goodbye and fuck you to the idiots that think democracy is capitalism, and (maybe not goodbye unfortunately) but a big Demo fuck you to Rush, Hannity, and Billo! We just have to survive another two years of Bush the dope-lomat, unless the House starts impeachment procedures . . . Oh be still my heart . . . Jefferson, Hamilton, Handcock, and Franklin are smiling in their graves this day! NickD
  9. What planet do you live on? If the Iron Curtain was still up fine . . . But the world is smaller now and Day Blazing in Russia makes it harder to jump in Los Angeles. NickD BASE 194
  10. We attended Brian Schubert's Memorial Service this past Saturday in Pomona, California . . . Held in a beautiful ninety-five-year old church I tried counting pews full of people but quit after about five hundred. Brian certainly didn't take the safe route through life. The place is full of policeman, firemen, bikers, and BASE jumpers. The family stood strong and proud and all of them rose to say their piece right down to the two small grand children. The United States Flag is presented twice, once by an Army honor guard in deference to Brian's service as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, and once by the Pomona Police Department where he retired as a Lieutenant. The family made us cry and the cops and firemen made us laugh. We should all be so fortunate as to have a life as full and as grand as Brian had . . . There was a large reception afterwards at the Pomona Fairgrounds and we finally got Mike Pelkey up to the microphone (he hates public speaking) with every jumper there backing him up. And as usual he did fine. I also said a few words as did Johnny Utah. As for the rest of the BASE jumpers there – Tina, Brian's daughter, was so happy you came, and she made me promise to say so. And I have to also say this - to the two skydivers, Clark and his wife, you make me proud to say I'm a jumper. They didn't even know Brian, and they put on their good clothes and came anyway just because they thought they should . . . Brian had a full ride and we were all winners for knowing him. The hardest trick in life is to leave the world better off than when you found it – and Brian did that in spades . . . NickD
  11. Rose made me a "shorty" suit in Perris in the early 90s that I still have. It was very well made. I had another jumpsuit on order and when I went to check on it her shop was closed and she was gone. NickD
  12. It's on You Tube now . . . And read some of the "brilliant" comments . . . NickD
  13. I think it's a good idea. As for being respectful, it depends how you write it. But, I'd say besides the who, what, and where, of it, the numbers would do all the talking . . . These people fade too quickly into the past under the catch-all of, "just another hook turn." A list, and a photograph, makes it real and it forces people to confront the issue. But, come up with another name. "The Bounce List" wouldn't be my first choice. Maybe call it, "In The Corner . . ." NickD
  14. I think if we still all wore them we'd be more careful . . . NickD
  15. And you are misrepresenting, or fibbing, about your A license? A-50019 belongs to Dave F. Or did Halloween come a little early to Bridge Day . . . ? I think Joy Joy is an undercover Park Ranger, and not a too good one either . . . NickD

  17. I've two autographed "Hard Cover" editions. I'll sell one for a $1000. Have you seen Jakey lately - he dosen't look so good. NickD
  18. I won't go that far, but yes, it really isn't BASE music. And the shame of it – it's the very reason there is no BASE music . . . When Carl Boenish put out his films both on skydiving and BASE jumping he either used public domain tunes (it was Bach or Beethoven, I think, for the El Cap stuff) but he also hired Mike Lloyd (or was it Mike Curb?) who was a professional songwriter (he went on to score many porn films) and some of that music is in Carl's films too. It's also the reason (or at least the only good reason) Jean Boenish gets so bent out of shape when people pirate Carl's films. They cost a small fortune to produce. Look at the Freak Brother films from the early days of the Convention. Much of that was original music about skydiving and it was so good it still holds up today. If Roger had just used Led Zepp, or something, we wouldn't have those tunes today. Many years ago Kenny Rogers, the singer, once asked about doing a BASE jump after seeing it on TV. I talked him down from it (he had no idea what was involved) but I always knew we sort of lost out, as I'm sure he would have written a very cool song about BASE jumping. One other thing is the current crop of BASE films (nothing really special about them, except the current crop is always cool) are good enough to click with the mainstream. But once you are tainted with stealing music, as a film maker, you're a dead man walking . . . Exchanging money for the work other people did is a decision both buyer and seller have to make for themselves. But I wish some of you would just consider hiring a garage band to come up with something original and who knows, sooner or later, a BASE anthem would be born . . . NickD
