  1. Sorry to hear about that... there seems to be a lot of cameras raining from the sky lately. I lost my complete kit at 9,000 feet due to a kick in the face last week at Rantoul. Be thankful that you found it -let me tell you, soybeans are not conducive to finding dropped gear! I spent the better part of two days looking, to no avail. No more magic carpet dives for me! 2. I'll second the Dbuys.com recommendation... I've bought several cameras from them in the past with nothing but good experiences (including a Digi. Rebel which thank god I didn't have on my head last week!), and will be going through them to get my new PC350 (to replace my sad and shattered PC101 ) Blue ones Dave My site...
  3. At my DZ (Skydive New England) we have a variety of rental gear to help new jumpers phase from the large canopies in the student gear to the (usually) significantly smaller canopies in their own gear. While the containers aren't usually freefly-friendly, its a great cost saving resource for the students. Also, when a student buys new gear from the dz, they can jump any of the rental gear for free until their new kit comes in... Blue ones Dave My site...
  4. But even better is the PC350 that's supposed to be coming out in September Here and Here Key changes: Cheaper (by US300.00) Lighter (by 20%) Improved low light performance And Cinematic Effect (24 frame progressive scan by dropping every 5th frame) Blue ones Dave My site...
  5. I've done it before, (PAL > NTSC) and it works fine for viewing on the camera, but you still cannot view it on TV. (Or in my case, I edited a DVD with some PAL shots in it, and they were not viewable on any of the TV's I tried it on) Blue ones Dave My site...
  6. I learned to jump here in New England, so it took me from the beginning of May until the end of September of going to the DZ and camping out EVERY weekend to get my A license. But you know, I don't think I would have had it any other way, because on all those windy / rainy days, I was wandering the dropzone gathering advice and making friends that I wouldn't have time to do if I had banged out all my jumps in a couple of weeks. In the end, I think it made me a safer jumper. Blue ones Dave My site...
  7. I'll chime in here because I just had Brian show me how his were made last weekend... It's dacron (the thickest one) which is finger-trapped into itself (to make it thicker), and bartacked (to make it less flexible). He has two-inch pieces sewn on two inches up from the split in the riser. It was the best system I've seen to date (I'm a big fan of K.I.S.S.), and my rigger agreed. He made up a piece approximately three feet long in order to be able to do a bunch of rigs. And Brian -thanks again for your time last weekend, I'm still trying to absorb all the information! edited to add: I'll post pictures when I pick up my rigs next weekend... Blue ones Dave My site...
  8. Nah, kite-flying (or dragging) works really well, and you can do that at the DZ! Blue ones Dave My site...
  9. At Skydive New England in Lebanon, ME you can see the snow-capped White Mountains, Lake Winepesake below you, and the ocean beaches all from altitude. It's beautiful during the summer, but breathtaking in the fall as the leaves begin to change! Blue ones Dave My site...
  10. I just bought a Wings with all the options (except stainless), and it's the most comfortable rig i've ever tried on!
  11. That was a freaky load... the winds had been calm all day, but the uppers REALLY picked up for sunset load. I had been doing hop and pops from 9k all day to get current on my new canopy. The girl landed ~4 miles off (not 8) and that was my fault because I talked her into joining me (she was under a very lightly loaded canopy) Blue ones Dave My site...
  12. Will do! I'll be up there this weekend Tony -sorry for stealing your thread Blue ones Dave My site...
  13. No silly, I was talking about his son's packing! Sorry if I wasn't clear Tony was jumping a Sabre 220 (I think) at a nice conservative wing loading of ~ .7/1 Blue ones Dave My site...
  14. He's doing it right... His son packed his first main on Sunday.. Tim Bernards 99FX! Pretty impressive, and it was a good opening too Blue ones Dave My site...
  15. Congratulations on getting back in the air! You should have seen your face when you landed... it was the "how did I not do this for the past 2.5 years?" look! And welcome to our DZ!! Happy to have ya' and glad you feel at home

  19. There's always Eloy they have like 360 jumping days a year (and a great atmosphere) it's one of my favorite DZ's in the winter... I just went there for 8 days and got in 92 jumps! Blue ones Dave My site...
  20. I was all excited about that until I realized that my Mac doesn't have an IR port so I can't dump the Neptune onto it anyway... Blue ones Dave My site...
  21. I'm using something similar... Pyro This works really well, and I was able to use it for both the PC and Mac. Blue ones Dave My site...
  22. I was using a similar setup to that with no problems: Dell Latitute (1ghz processor) 512MB RAM External firewire drive Premiere The external drive is key for expandability so that you can keep your video projects separate (especially if it's a work / school computer) I now have an iMac w/ final cut, and love it! 23. Amen to that! Blue ones Dave My site...
