  1. In the video I linked to above, there was nothing holding the raft to the jumper other than the force of the spin. He attempted to release the raft as soon as the spin started, but the G's increased so quickly that it was impossible. Be careful up there! Blue ones Dave My site...
  2. I will just add to be VERY careful, as jumping with an inflatable adds a new level of complexity and danger to any skydive. Here's a good example of "what could possibly go wrong" from last year: http://www.teammantis.org/postnuke/html/downloads/Rob.zip and the aftermath: http://www.teammantis.org/postnuke/html/downloads/Rob_s_Eyes.wmv Stay safe! 3. I'm just going to jump in here to second Billo. I've been jumping the same setup (but with a 101 and 350) for the past 300 - 400 jumps, and have never experienced a problem with vibration. Though the camera will move on the L-bracket with the door open, as soon as you secure the door, the foam padding keeps it securely in place. BTW, is that blue carbon fibre, or just the lighting of the shots? It looks really cool! Blue ones Dave My site...
  4. A friend of mine had the same problem with his Cookie box mounted to a Bonehead Optik. His solution was to put on another bungee going vertically over the box. It fixed the problem, and the box has never popped open in freefall or otherwise... Blue ones Dave My site...
  5. Just wanted to add another factor to consider -the speed of the CF card that you use. I was using a regular CF card (don't know what speed, it was generic), and when I switched to a high-speed card there was a noticeable difference in the write speed, and the speed of the shots taken. 6. I wanted to add another factor that I haven't seen yet -currency. As a weekend jumper in New England, this time of year my limit for ground winds is lower than it would typically be in August. Uppers: No limit -just to know what they are at 3/6/9/12k before I get on the plane in order to plan accordingly. Grounds: Highest was 30 kts / This time of year I'll sit out if it's gusty and around 20 kts. Blue ones Dave My site...
  7. I don't believe that it's necessary to purchase a particular helmet -like all things in skydiving, it is a matter of preference. I bought the 2kComposites helmet because I liked the simple design, and it was very comfortable on my funny shaped head. I also have had very good experiences with the company in the past. A camera condom and L-bracket will work as good for the 350 as it does for any other Sony camera. I've known plenty of people that use this system without problems, but I like the idea of a fully enclosed box, and the snag-free design. As a side note, there are actually less buttons exposed on the newer Sony cameras than there were on the older style PC's and TRV's. Blue ones Dave My site...
  8. I always take pictures at the highest quality -I've learned that if you don't even once, that's the one that you are going to want blown up... Murphy's law and all that. The average picture size at 3mp (2016 * 1512) is about 1.2mb so on a formatted card you should be able to hold just under 200 pictures (and the card was around $80 at Best Buy -so probably $50 on ebay). Hope this helps. Blue ones Dave My site...
  9. Lense: Right now I'm using a Crystal Vision .45 (cheap lense). With my last camera, I was shooting with the WayCool Blue Eye, which I loved, but I lost that with the camera. I plan on replacing that and maybe getting a WayCool .25 over the winter. Memory Stick: I just picked up a generic 256 mb stick over the weekend, but you won't use it for skydiving. I just use the stick when i am using the camera for touristy stuff, and don't want to lug around two cameras. The stills are really good quality, but there is no way to trigger them while it is on your head. Batteries: I only have the -50 battery that the camera came with. Because I am a weekend jumper, and am not using the camera constantly this more than suits my needs. I can easily do 20 jumps over two days without needing to recharge the battery. And because of this I don't need any additional chargers. However I did buy a DC/AC adapter so that I can charge the camera in my car if need be. Blue ones Dave My site...
  10. I got the helmet knowing that I was going to be a guinnea pig. I have no problem with it... especially since this helmet was even more comfortable than my last 2k helmet. I didn't think that was possible! Blue ones Dave My site...
  11. I'll try to take a couple of shots tonight when I get home... Blue ones Dave My site...
  12. Congratulations on the setup! I actually meant to give 2k a call when I got my helmet to let them know that the Cam-Eye / Lanc connector does not fit in the helmet as provided. I was able to Dremel out a small chunk on the inside, and it now fits like a glove. As to the camera, I cut the strap off as soon as I got it. You might be able to fit it in there with it on, but I have always found PC cameras more comfortable without the strap anyway... Blue ones Dave My site...
  13. I have a couple of good pictures of my BEAUTUIFUL flourescent orange and silver Katana... I swear the thing glows in the dark! I just don't have my camera with me. I'll post them next week for you. Blue ones Dave My site...
  14. Yup, I finally got all my gear back together (just in time for the end of the season). I'm still really happy with the camera. The video quality is excellent, and the docking station isn't as much of a pain in the arse as I had thought it would be. It's small enough to fit in my camera bag easily, and it actually looks better at home when I'm working with the video (as we all know, it's all about looking good!) I also did a bunch of ground video of swooping and whatnot, and this camera is much easier to hold and use than my PC101. All in all, I'd give it 8 out of 10 stars. It would be a 10 if it weren't for the higher than average price and the docking station... Blue ones Dave My site...
  15. Hey there... your best bet is to give Barry {skyslut} a call. He did that a couple of years ago, and can give you a good idea of the program (if they're still doing it). Blue ones Dave My site...

    Stiletto

I put approximately 300 jumps on my Stiletto 120 loaded at 1.3. It was my first elliptical canopy, and I was very impressed! I was hesitant to buy it at first because of the stigma attached to the "Spinetto", but as long as you deploy with even weight in the harness, the openings are great. I actually prefer them to my Spectre, and that has extremely soft openings. The Stiletto has a very wide control range. I’ve made it back from quite a few long spots with just a bit of rears or deep brakes with no problems. At this wingloading you can also almost sink it in when trying to make it into a tight off-DZ landing. Toggle turns initiate quickly and speed up from there. Even at my (relatively) low wingloading, harness turns were impressive. The canopy does have relatively high front riser pressure. The pressure on the risers starts low (especially after deep brakes), but increases quickly. The Stiletto also planes out very quickly after coming out of a turn. This is both good and bad for someone who is just learning how to swoop. Because it does not continue to dive, you have to initiate the turn lower than you would have to on other canopies. However, if you do find yourself low, you can “dig” out of it relatively easily. Overall, I strongly recommend the Stiletto. Try one and you’ll see why the first elliptical canopy is still in production, and as popular as ever!
  17. I've bought three cameras (both video and digital still) from Dbuys, and have had nothing but good experiences. I would definitely use them again. The same goes for B&H. Although I have never purchased a big ticket item from them, I have put through a large number of smaller orders, and all items have arrived on-time (or early) and are packaged extremely well. 18. Yeah, like she said it's all over the web... if you need measurements I'll get them next weekend (I left the camera up in Maine this week) but you should be able to get the measurements on sonystyle.com. There are very similar to the PC-101 (I managed to cram my camera into a 101 dbox) Blue ones Dave My site...
  19. I second that view!! There's nothing worse than importing a tape with 60 timecode breaks into FCP! I've shown that button to a bunch of people Blue ones Dave My site...
  20. Yes, one of my reasons for getting the 350 was that I wasn't too keen on the 25mm lens found on the 109. My 101 was a 30mm, so the wide angle that I have still fits which is nice. There is a guy at SNE actively jumping his 330, once I get myself back online, we'll do some jumps and I'll post both videos on my site for comparison. We were analyzing ground video and stills (off the video and straight stills onto the stick) the other day, and you can tell which came from which camera. Especially when using the "progressive scan" feature, the colors are much sharper from the 350 when pulling stills off of video. Blue ones Dave My site...
  21. Yup... probably the first person in the world to jump a 350... I do believe that's Blue ones Dave My site...
  22. Unfortunately due to the lack of a camera helmet, the camera has only been jumped a couple of times. However, there is a noticeable quality difference in the video. I've done some ground footage as well, and the colors appear to be significantly sharper than on the PC101. I'll have a lot more to add when my new helmet arrives (thank you 2kcomposites!), and I get some more jumps with the camera. Blue ones Dave My site...
  23. PM "IGOLOW"... he's psycho packed his Sabre2 135 for the past 200 jumps with no issues. However, it didn't work out so good with the Vengence! Blue ones Dave My site...
  24. Happy Birthday to me! I just received my PC-350 in the mail to replace my lost and shattered PC-101. First impressions from playing around with it last night: This camera is light! It really isn't comparable in size to the PC-330, I believe it is closer to the size of a 101. Also, it is actually lighter than my 101. Sony has made a number of small improvements in the past couple of generations. One of them is the new battery... the same duration battery (I used 50's in my 101) is only about 1/4" high, and does not stick out past the LCD screen. At first I was disappointed that I would not be able to use my current batteries, but after seeing it on the camera, I'll be more than happy to buy one more. Also, Sony ships it out with a NP-FF51 which is an improvement over the 30 that came with the 101. I'm not to keen on the docking station idea, but only time will tell how much of a pain it will be. The station itself is fairly small and very light, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to carry along on the weekends. I'm still waiting on my new 2kComposites helmet, so I may not be able to jump it for a couple of weeks, but I'll be trying to put it into a couple of my friends dboxes this weekend and hopefully get a couple of jumps in with it. Also, kudos to dbuys.com for another good buying experience... this is the third camera that I've purchased from them without a hitch (and two weeks before the actual release to boot!)
