    Hi, I've heard comments around the dropzone and dz.com that the 300d isn't all that people thought it would be. I own a 10d and am very happy with it and love the extra features that are available on the 10d over 300d. Having said that, I think the 300d is a really great deal since it uses the same sensor so should theoretically take the same quality photos. I'd like to hear your experiences with the 300d, what you thought you would be getting and why you are or are not completely satisfied with its performance. The most common complaint i've heard about the 300d system is the softness of the images (lens issue?) Thanks! Gotta go... plaything needs to spank me Feel the hate... Photos here

    Fisheye lenses are less fully corrected (does that make sense?) and display significant distortion for lines that do not pass through the optical center of the lens (barrel distortion). "Normal" wide angle lenses are more fully corrected for barrel distortion. Fisheye lenses typically have a 180 degree angle of view at infinity over at least some portion of the film area. In fact, I just checked B&H and can't find one that doesn't. Gotta go... plaything needs to spank me Feel the hate... Photos here

    Nah, I think it's because if they had white-only scholarships, they'd have to give it to people that can't spell "scholarship". Don't hurt me. I doubt there will be much political backlash, especially since it's a bunch of kids at some podunk school. It would make good late-night tv fodder tho...     420 has high speed sync. I've done some high speed photography using it (before I gave the flash to my sister) all the way to 1/4000th. You just don't get as much light output at that point. Got some cool pics tho. Gotta go... plaything needs to spank me Feel the hate... Photos here

    550's guide #'s (at ISO 100): 138 feet at 50mm focal length 180 feet at 105mm focal length 420's guide #'s (at ISO 100): 101 feet at 35mm focal length 138 feet at 105mm focal length GN = fstop * distance_to_target Don't quote me on this but I *think* the power output scales as guide # squared, so the 550 has 70% more light output as the 420 ex for a given focal length, aperture and distance to target. Guide # increases by sqrt(2) for every stop increase in ISO, so this means you can basically shoot the same scene using an ISO 1 to 2 stops slower with the 550 than with the 420 if the flash is the primary source of light.
