  1. I wonder if "Oz, Tanto and Tig" have such a deep seated hatred of the President brought on by his election in 2008 as do some of you here exibit. I don't know. I hope so but, I don't know. Can those with hatred in their heart...enter the kingdom of heaven?? Sure, it depends on what you do with it. Jesus instructs us to hate our families to be His disciple. What do you think that means? If you want to take it farther, please start another thread. This one is for remembering those who were sacrificed at Benghazi. Their abandonment is tied to the ISIL and the failure of the BHO administration throughout the Mideast. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 3. The contractors "Oz, Tanto and Tig" confirm that they were told on three separate occasions to "stand down" along with their other team members. Their interdiction was delayed 25 minutes and they finally entered the fray on their own initiative. They believe they could have saved Ambassador Stevens and Scott Smith had they deployed on first notice. They did not hear any intel about a video until they were in Germany, way after the battle and the deaths of four Americans. Congressman Trey Gowdy will hold his first open hearing on the investigation this month. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 5. Well, not really. You have some control regarding the people around you and that is physical. God's influence and divine intervention is spiritual. Thus, you can interpret and hopefully understand but you have no control. The challenge is to learn how to recognize God's blessing and through obedience avoid His retribution. As a side note, obedience is better than sacrifice. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  6. Anyone remember Jim Hooper? He was a well known American sport parachutist and ran Z-hills back in the 70s and early 80s. Hoop gave up jumping to become a war correspondent because the NSA would not hire him, IIRC. Anyway talk to him about the job. I think he has retired now. He carries AK-47 and shrapnel scares from his non-OSHA related work. He is on dropzone.com. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 7. Some sayings from the field of substance use disorder treatment and the church: "Life is not fair, God is not fair. If life was fair and God was fair, you would be dealing with a lot worse than what you are." "Grace is when God gives you something you don't deserve. Mercy is when God protects you from something you do deserve." To understand suffering and be comfortable with it is a great lesson of life. 13. Nah Ron, You and I both know we'd just turn around, laugh and ignore this troll. He's a rank amateur in provocation compared to "them" (not mentioning "their" name)...... Amen to that. 14. Obvious, his ability to instruct was sub par in that he thought it was a good idea to hand a full auto weapon to a child. Any instructor with the mind set that doing such is a good idea needs to re-examine their ability to teach. So you would suggest some kind of self-assessment as to whether you have the ability to teach firearm use. Perhaps we should do that for AFF too. Let anyone be an AFF instructor who examines their own ability to instruct and concludes that they can do it. Is that called a strawman? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 15. How much experience and competence do you expect in a 9 year old? Not much, the burden of experience and competence rests with the instructor, now deceased. The instructor was a veteran who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan and had been a firearms instructor for years. Apparently this isn't enough experience and competence. 22. If there was a designer with any intelligence, I'm pretty sure they would not have chosen to cobble together a bunch of neurological pathways that also includes a large role for vasopressin in the male, given that vasopressin also controls behaviors such as territoriality and aggression. The overlap between love and territoriality has caused a tremendous amount of grief for women over the millennia. On the other hand, such an overlap is entirely what would be expected of evolution. There is a strong selective advantage in mate guarding, as that helps ensure the paternity of the females offspring. In humans there is an additional advantage to linking mate guarding to factors that foster long-term mate bonding, as long term male participation greatly increases the odds that the offspring will survive to reach reproductive age, ensuring propagation of genes into future generations. In the end, biology always comes down to optimizing transmission of genetic information from generation to generation. An intelligent designer would not be so limited, so we should expect to see things that are designed to function well without regard to how they affect transmission of genes. No examples of such biological processes have ever been discovered. There is no objective reason to prefer the "intelligent designer" model over biological evolution. Don That is very interesting. The question for me is, how can you be certain of the motivation of the designer? You assume the design to be flawed. Well, that is not accurate. You do not assume a designer. You assume that if there was a designer the design would be perfect and efficient. I think God designed us with built in conflict and aggression. Thus, He created a void, a need for Him. Only the true believers are rewarded eternity with Him. In other words, we have to want to know God to know Him. That relationship can only be attained through Jesus Christ of Nazareth. 24. Only for the person having that experience. Love is an interesting analogy. Although it is felt intensely, as is a sense of connection to God by some people, it is nevertheless a physical and biochemical phenomenon entirely resident in the brain. It's perhaps a bit disheartening to have love reduced to neurons and molecules, but that's the reality of it: "Love is a complex neurobiological phenomenon, relying on trust, belief, pleasure and reward activities within the brain, i.e., limbic processes. These processes critically involve oxytocin, vasopressin, dopamine, and serotonergic signaling. Moreover, endorphin and endogenous morphinergic mechanisms, coupled to nitric oxide autoregulatory pathways, play a role. Naturally rewarding or pleasurable activities are necessary for survival and appetitive motivation, usually governing beneficial biological behaviors like eating, sex, and reproduction. Yet, a broad basis of common signaling and beneficial neurobiological features exists with connection to the love concept, thereby combining physiological aspects related to maternal, romantic or sexual love and attachment with other healthy activities or neurobiological states." (source) Here is another discussion of the topic, packaged for a more general audience. It is, in principle, entirely possible to determine objectively if someone is in love by examining their brain chemistry. It might even be possible to do this non-destructively by using NMR to map oxytocin distribution and levels in the brain, though I have not seen that published. In animal studies, researchers have been able to create or eliminate strong pair bonds by manipulating levels of oxytocin and vasopressin. It is also possible to induce strong spiritual experiences using psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms. Some of the participants in the study described the psilocybin-induced hallucinations as the strongest spiritual experience of their lives, with a feeling of direct mind-to-mind connection with every entity and object in the universe. Does this mean that every deep spiritual experience people report means they have been using mushrooms or something like that? No. However, the fact that the experience can be induced simply by manipulating brain biochemistry means that the experience is not proof, or even good objective evidence, of the existence of God. If there is a non-magical explanation of the phenomenon, then it's not unreasonable if some people choose to believe that explanation, even if you personally prefer to interpret it as a real spiritual experience. On the other hand, the availability of a biochemical explanation does not prove that the experience cannot be due to a spiritual connection; it is conceivable that different stimuli could produce the same effect. Again we are left with whatever you personally choose to believe. Don BTW, your analysis and description makes a good argument for intelligent design, IMO. Now examine the different Greek definitions of the emotion; agápe, éros, philía, and storge'. I have experienced a really good thing without the use of psychedelics.
