One down 30 million to go...Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi is Dead....
Lefty replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
Huh? Wow, I never saw submunitions and MRE's as looking the same. Heh, the military's new secret weapon...constipating the enemy into submission. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -
Awww...us gun nuts just took one to the head again. Confirm/deny Billvon? Anyway, good luck to the mayor trying to ban paint. Our "Equilibrium" style white-washed world has begun. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Haha...man, you usually have something sensible to say even though I disagree with you most of the time. I guess your post was just an excuse for you make a funny with the subject line, using your subtle "sarcasm". My bad for taking it so seriously...pfft. I missed the part where I took one to the head...please help. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Bear in mind that under our system, I pay $0 for doctor visits & $0 for prescriptions. $0 for hosptial visits. $0 for operations. $0 for CT & MRI Scans. Etc... And... Given that my present condition is perhaps chronic, I DON'T have to worry about my "Medical Insurance" NOT BEING RENEWED!!! I only have to worry about getting better. Not whether I can afford treatment or medication I need! Not whether my insurance company will continue to make a loss on me year after year! Like I said, being ill is a singularly crap time to have to worry about money! Mike. And how much of your current tax burden goes to pay for that? I think the question is, how much of other people's tax burden goes to pay for that? *Edit* Spelling Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Answer to your two questions: 1. We can always use tax cuts...the government needs to exercise some fiscal responsibility to make up the difference. The absolute LAST thing I want the government to have is a surplus. That means they're holding our money for no reason. I'd rather the government be in debt. 2. Whoever pays taxes should benefit. For some reason, I see nothing wrong with rich people who pay more in taxes benefiting more from tax cuts, considering they pay the largest share. If you don't pay taxes, you get nothing back. Get a program called EphPod. Allows you to transfer files from your IPod to your comp. I used it when my old hard drive crapped out (thank God I had just uploaded all my songs to my IPod). Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Release Form Wings at Harvey Washbangers. I swear they serve them in a basket of lava and mace sauce. If you can eat all eight little buffalo wings, you get your name on a plaque, t-shirt, etc. I finished three before my body literally felt like it was going to shut down. Two pitchers of water later, the area around my mouth was bright red from where the spices had burned and it stayed like that for two days. Hey now, time will tell on whether or not it is an issue with me, although I'd much prefer to never know how I'd react. I was just going off the experience of others. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Well, it certainly wouldn't do them any favors to see more dead women. Casualties on the battlefield are something most armies try to limit, and casualties with strings attached are something to avoid even more. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Not sure. Personally, I might have a harder time pulling the trigger on a woman than I would on a man. A man's body is structured for fighting, presumably to defend females and territory. It's really not that hard to imagine that his psychology may be similarly constructed. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

I agree 100%. After doing some research into other militaries (including Israel's), and their reasons why they don't have women in combat units, I found that it can be psychologically shattering for men to see women die in combat. It seems there really is some sort of instinct (or social construct, though a very strong one) that causes men to feel protective of women. This can lead to conflicts between doing to mission and following an urge so strong that could, by some evidence I saw, devastate a man if he goes against it. Anyway, that's my take. Edited for grammar. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Ok, here's a cooler sounding riddle with the same answer. I think it makes more sense, too. "This thing all things devours Birds, beasts, trees, flowers Gnaws iron, bites steel, Grinds hard stones to meal, Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down!" Bonus points for naming the book it's from. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

I noticed a Star Trek-type trend going on with the seasons on 24. The odd seasons kick ass, and the even seasons haven't been as good. I know its reverse order from the Star Trek rule of thumb, but is anyone else with me on this? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

We have established laws in society to punish domestic and corporate abusers. The world system works a little differently than that. There is no such thing as a "global society", with established laws and a government saying what individual countries can and cannot do. Rather, individual countries basically live in a constant power stuggle, forming alliances or enemies and looking out for their national interests. This includes the development of nuclear weapons for us and our allies, and the desire to thwart the attempts of our enemies to gain similar technologies. The concept of hypocrisy really no meaning in the context you're using it in. Each country (theoretically) consistently looks out for its own survival, and there's nothing hypocritical about that. Exactly. I think you understand the concept I'm talking about, but nuclear weapons are a sensitive issue and could cause people to make illogical exceptions to what they expect from the guy on top...ie the U.S. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

I mean, am I wrong about that being the way the world works? If I am wrong, how does/should it work? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
