  1. Family of missing person told me they haven't been able to get in contact with him since right after he landed in LA, having flown from Norway (via Amsterdam), this was 3 days ago. He is there for the bigway camp, name Jarle Bakk, 54 year old Norwegian guy. If anybody in Perris could try finding him, or find any other Norwegians there who might know something, it would be very much appreciated. Ask manifest if he have made any jumps the last 3 days? If Jarle is found, tell him to call/email home.
  2. Try getting hold of a PdF Springo 140. Flatter glide than a Stiletto, more responsive on toggles, great openings. It's great for everything except swooping, because it has a VERY short recovery arc. I think it might be what you're looking for.
  3. No I haven't, but here is a funny story: http://www.tuckermax.com/archives/entries/date/the_midget_story.phtml
  4. So what DZ is this? http://www.m2film.dk/fleggaard/index.php?film=2 Probably NSFW if your boss is boring.
  5. About -30C (-22F) at 13000ft on that clear blue skies day during the first load. I pulled at 8000 doing canopy flight exercises. Tried to reach for dive loops during landing - that didn't work... harness only 360. Plenty pain when the nails unfroze later...

    Me landing

  7. The toggles system seems to be a copy of the system PdF have used for many years. In my experience they are by far the best system out there, I wish the US harness manufacturers would copy this system... I want them with my new V3, you listening Bill?
  8. Thanks for keeping the list for so long, I would have wanted to see it continue being updated though. As would, it seems, most jumpers on this forum.

    Bombing Utah?

Look closely, it's an airplane with its wings painted black. (Or maybe you saw that and just wanted to joke )
  10. I've used the business version for a couple of months now, and it can be summed up in: It's a total waste of money to buy an upgrade, but it's an OK OS, so don't worry when it comes preinstalled with your new computer... A couple of points: - Unlike XP, it actually looks good (i always went with the Win95 look in XP), so if that's relevant to you, it's a plus. - Slower at most things compared to XP. - Most of the improvements in Explorer (the file manager) seems to be downgrades to me. It tries to do a lot of automagical things but fails doing most of them good _enough_ to acutally be useful, so I end up using dedicated programs for these tasks. - Requires heavy hardware. The Flip3D, although sometimes useful, does not run smooth on my machine (Intel Core Duo T2500, 2GiB RAM, Nvidia 120M Quadro). - 3D sound does not work on current hardware. - OpenGL (a lot of games and almost all business 3D applications) performance is heavily reduced, and VERY, VERY poor when running in windowed mode. - Quite a few improvements here and there, but also a lot of "downgrades". (For example, the new desktop properties configuration boxes. Who the hell thought that splitting those up were a good idea?) So... it's somewhat better, but not that much better than XP. (Also, when Mac users claim that Vista is a Mac OS X clone, remind them most of the features they tout as Apple inventions really isn't. )
  11. The norwegian video mirror I'm running is still up for those who cant wait: http://skydivingmovies.ath.cx/ I've temporarily enabled file listings. That site is averaging more than 1TBytes/month btw.
  12. The Norwegian mirror I'm running is still up, and I've enabled directory listing now that SDM is temporary down, maybe you can find your video there. http://skydivingmovies.ath.cx/ BTW, what downloads speeds are people on the west side of the atlantic getting from that mirror?
  13. If you ignore price, would you still hold this to be true? If so, why?
  14. Why would this generate heat? Reflection prevents any energy from being absorbed? No. Dark cars are warmer because they absorb more light (thats why it's dark). The absorbed light energy turns into heat energy. (Wherever the incoming light is UV or not is irrelevant.)
  15. Beer tradition alive and well in Norway as well... with fairly complex rules attached to them :) Failing to comply with any of these rules will result in a "svenske" (norwegian for "swede"), where the offender must buy a sixpack.
  16. Me: ~650 jumps, no mals, no line twists on an elliptical (~430 jumps) that did not clear themselves within 1 second after slider down (and max 5 of those). Packjob latest 350 jumps on everything except velocity: Follow lines up in normal fashion, shake canopy fairly violently, look at canopy making sure everything looks "normal" (nose, steering lines, d lines). Do the slider. I usually pull it out in front, depending on canopy. Next, pick up tail in normal fashion and make sure lines stay in place when folding top skin around rest of canopy (using knees). When on the ground, just squish fabric together, making sure not to push the tail/fabric between d/c lines underneath anything (I think this part is Really important, and a lot of people sin against this, more or less rolling the tail in front of the packjob.) So, IMO, important parts: Slider. Lines. They can be placed neatly enough using canopy shaking only. Make sure they dont move much the rest of the packjob. BASE canopies and reserves are a whole different story as far as packing go, of course.
  17. Hahaha ... the terminal wall in Norway? I don't know the numbers, but it have to be at least 15 (many of which have several exit points, of course) terminal walls here... probably more. (As for your question, the only Troll jumping guy I know jumps using a large mesh slider and it's fine. IIRC.)
  18. Hey Nikko, do you have more pics from the weekend (preferabely in a higher resolution) and if so, could you post them online (or email, or PM, or whatever). As for wherever it counting as an S, I consider it my first S at least.. This is as Span as it gets? :) Great fun for sure! -Bjørn (I was the one jumping in my skydiving outfit, came from the nearby skydiving DZ.)

    Springo

Background: Started jumping a Springo 140 loaded at 1.4 at about 220 jumps up untill I had 350 jumps. The openings are really nice and consistent, using about ~700 ft, not as much snivel as a Stiletto, but the slider comes down real nice and slow. You can make the canopy open 90 degrees off-heading to either side using harness inputs troughout the opening. It's trimmed fairly flat, and using brakes you can stay up in the air forever. It's very responsive to toggles input, more so than a similarely sized Stilletto. The only thing I dislike with the Springo is it's recovery arc, which is very short, making it a lot more difficult to gain enough speed for a good swoop, even with 270degrees hook turns. If you want to swoop/learn swooping I would not recommend Springo... every other part of the canopy's characteristics are great.
