  1. I posted about this in the wingsuit forum a few days ago, hope nobody minds the repost here. I owe . CLICK and see attached. Physics was my favorite class in college, so that makes it even cooler. The book ships retail in February, I think. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. Well said Brian, I don't track my jumps much but if you know how to use the equipment you can get reasonable results. I've done tons of jumps comparing video time to logger time and it's very close. However, trying to use data to prove a point without actually showing the data, is kind of silly. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. Spot, I don't have an FTP but I have measured quite a few of Wes' plates and they vary from 1/8 to 3/16. My CCM top plate is .150... which is between 1/8 and 3/16. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. FYI, those aren't my words. I didn't write the book or the back cover. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Yeh, the book I got was an advance copy. I was told earlier it would ship in February. Here is the previous version, the 7th edition. I'd guess the 8th edition will sell for $100-$150 new when it ships. Having been through school myself and paid for engineering books... they ain't cheap. I doubt it. I skimmed the book trying to see if there were any problems containing wingsuits. There was one with a skydiver in freefall, but that's pretty much a token problem for every physics book I've ever seen. The description on the back cover is probably the best you'll get. I'm happy they were pretty accurate with that description, and they spelled both "skydiving" and "wingsuit" as singular words, properly. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. For all who like to use equations to describe wingsuit flight, here is a newly published book for you. Yuri, eat your heart out. Got my copy in the mail today. See attached. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Searching to see if your topic has been posted before is free and takes no talent. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. If Jeff was in the low 20's for over half the jump, and you averaged mid-40's, that means Jeff was in the low 60's for the other half of the jump, which means you guys were almost never near each other, so how did he get such a good view of your tail wing fluttering? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Yeh, you have to cut a clearance hole in your riser for the camera to fit. DISCLAIMER: IT'S A JOKE! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. I thought we all figured out the equation long ago... bigger = better, right? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. I'd say 15 seconds of constant speed isn't quite enough to verify steady-state flight. Maybe 30 seconds would do. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. If 20mph was sustained for an entire jump from 13.5k-3k, it would last 6 minutes. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. I am a slacker, but here are some photos I took of the fireworks Saturday night. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. No problem Pat. I also purchased 254-PB504 on the next page of the catalog. They seem to work too and are equally loud, but are almost "too small" I thought so I didn't use them. But if you want something damn tiny, those will do the job. Most of the buzzers on Mouser are either external drive or self drive. I am not sure if self drive ones work, I'm inclined to think no... but I do know that external drives do work. Alti-2 will also tell you what they use in the Neptune, I forget what # it is but it's close to the 2 I recommended (external drive as well) and is also on Mouser. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Where did you get your remote speakers from ? Pat HERE PN: 254-152-ROX I got a lot of other electronic pieces (MCX connectors, right angle stereo plugs, tact switches) from Mouser too. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Thanks. Look at photo #13. Landscape is possible if you are flying photo only. However, I will 99% of the time be flying both cameras, and SLR will be vertical. When I set up my first camera helmet last year with a vertical XT, some people questioned my thinking. Three published cover shots later, I think I chose the right orientation. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. You can do that maybe with either HC5 or CX7 (not sure of exact pixel count) but it still won't look as good as a picture from a real SLR camera. Post #27 in this thread has a BASE screengrab taken from the CX7, it looks pretty good. Overall I think the HC5 will be slightly better video quality than the CX7. You strapping a camera on your head mate? -A Yank www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. C'mon Tony, ask me or Scotty and we'll tell you why we both have HC5's... many jumpers have reported problems with HC7 due to optical image stabilization. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. I don't think I've ever had a shot ruined like this, with my filter. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. I've got a Tiffen UV filter on my Canon 10-22mm. I think it was $30. My pictures look ok to me, but I have never really compared it to shots taken without the filter since it's always been on there. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. Tell that to manifest at Eloy. Nothing wrong with working on your tracking skills... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. I was referring to the part where you are broadcasting globally for an instructor (representing a world class DZ) to knowingly go against USPA recommendations for you. I'm not trying to be rude, but it did strike me as incredibly ironic. Bending the rules is best done on the "DL"... or not at all. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
