That's true in the same way that skydiving doesn't have anything to do with parachutes. After all we could just set up box rigs or a giant net. To argue that tools have nothing to do with the ability to efficiently perform tasks is disingenuous to say the least. Don't let the door... (WHACK!)... OK never mind. Has there ever been such a dysfunctional administration? Also how does the cost of this fiasco compare to keeping secret service security at all of Trump's alt-White Houses? I hate to disagree with a fellow professor, but the correct word is "bigly".I stand corrected! Don _____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty. (Dworkin, 1996) “Education is not filling a bucket, but lighting a fire.” (Yeats)

It's a article of faith amongst Republicans that tax cuts spur economic growth, and that the wealthy invariably use their tax savings to create good high paying jobs for people. Like all matters of faith, there is no actual evidence to support these beliefs, and considerable evidence that they are flat out wrong. That has never deterred the true believers though. Of course as far as Trump, Ryan, et al are concerned it doesn't help that they will personally benefit hugely from the proposed tax changes. Interesting video! There are lots out there taken with the solar filter. Yours does a much better job of showing the "atmosphere" around the event, the "sunset in the middle of the day" effect. Obviously you would not have been able to capture that without the tree mostly blocking the sun. I believe the issue is that the European Union has made it clear that they will ban importation of wheat or other crops from Africa if any African country allows the use of GMO wheat (or corn, or soybeans, or cotton, etc). So African countries are put in the position of having to stick with insect and disease susceptible crop varieties or they will lose their main export market. Several years ago the European Union banned the importation of American blue jeans if they were made with cotton from GMO plants. The EU claims to have concerns about the safety of GMO crops, but the blue jeans example illustrates that that is not the real (or the whole) issue. Rather it is an economic issue. GMO seeds are more expensive to buy, and farmers cannot (legally) save some of the current years's seed production to plant next years crop. This makes GMO seeds more expensive (in terms of up-front cost) for small farmers, who dominate European agriculture. The situation is different for large corporate farms, which can afford the up-front cost and reap higher profits down the road due to less insecticide use and higher yields. Small farmers have a lot of political clout in Europe, and have been able to drive their anti-GMO agenda with great success, hiding behind a smokescreen of safety concerns. African farmers are simply collateral damage. Don _____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty. Have you? What field? I'd guess reverse biofuels technology. Biofuels: converting bullshit into ethanol. Reverse biofuels: I'm sure people can figure it out. The message is that, once again, Trump doesn't understand what he can and cannot do, and/or doesn't understand the words he uses. Arpaio would have to apply for the pardon at least 5 years after being released after serving his time. However he could commute any jail time Arpaio receives. Tokyo had already suffered extensive damage due to conventional bombing and the resulting firestorms. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen in no small part because they had not been targeted to that point, and so the damage from the nuclear explosions would be more obvious. In other words they were experiments as well as military targets. Please note that I do think there were valid military reasons to use the bomb under the circumstances of the time. I'm sure even the most despotic dictator loves his children. Also probably himself. "Love" is not synonymous with caring broadly about the condition of your fellow humans. Curiosity and creativity are not synonymous, or even overlapping with any of the traits listed on your chart. Their absence suggests that whoever authored the chart does not even recognize these as personality traits, good or bad. That says a lot about them, and perhaps also about people who offer up the chart as though it offered insight into who we should strive to be. Of course he doesn't. Actual facts and rule of law are irrelevant to the extreme right, it's all about feeding their hatred. Why does everybody keep on feeding the troll? That's going to be a very tough sell. They only two ways to improve it is to expand it's reach. Which in simple English terms means more government funding of a major social program. Or finding a way to reduce the profit margins in the system. If Americans want that they will need to elect more people who also want that. But they don't appear to be wanting to do that. In the short term much could be accomplished if Congress and the White House would simply commit to abiding by the law. Much of the instability in the market, leading to large premium increases and providers leaving the market, is driven by uncertainty about whether the individual mandate will be enforced and uncertainty about whether providers will be reimbursed for the subsidies they have to give to lower-income subscribers. Much of what is described as Obamacare failures is really due to Republican efforts to undermine the economic basis of the law. It won't matter. Trump will just add the AG position to Kushner's portfolio. No doubt the boy wonder can take care of those duties before morning coffee, leaving plenty of time to reinvent the economy and bring peace to the Middle East. I rarely ever post here any more, because some time ago I made the decision I would never again respond directly to rushmc's trolling. It really is astonishing how much he takes over every thread here with his denial-of-reality BS. Speakers corner has become nothing much other than a big rushmc-driven trollburger. What you say would make sense if the goal was to ensure that people who are abusing the benefit are cut off. However it seems the real goal is to purge as many people as possible as quickly as possible, without any regard as to their actual need, so as to be able to shut down the program as soon as possible and direct the savings to the already well off. I don't think the issue is the legal authority to make the decision. Rather, leaving aside for the moment the question of whether it is the right decision based on the science, it is as blunt a declaration as one could imagine that the word of the US is worth nothing. The US is a completely undependable partner, where every agreement is fair game to be torn up after the next election. The US is a liar. What country will invest years in negotiating any agreement about anything if they know that the word of the USA is worthless? After this (and the TPP) no-one will trust the US to keep their word about anything. Don _____________________________________ Tolerance is the cost we must pay for our adventure in liberty. I don't recall anyone saying that. Certainly I did not. I just asked you to stop flinging poo. (In case you don't get it: making up silly generalizations about people you don't know and indeed actively avoid, such as educated people, is flinging poo.) They are not visible because they are just regular people, not (as some imagine) monsters out to destroy society or your marriage or whatever. Just ordinary folks who want to be left alone to live their lives without having people fling poo at them. So to speak. English. A colourful language. https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=garbage+synonymThe word is appropriate, considering the Trump administration is basically just a dumpster fire at this point.
