Being also a degenerate once part of that famous team, I too would like a photo if one is located. Has Yuri fallen off the planet? If so, I'd like pics of that too. Living vicariously through other BASE'rs 386 Chesnut of " Team Old and Brittle"

I too would like to send cheers down your way to Doc Stokely and Rick "I'd rather watch t.v. than d.b." Payne. Tell Rick Chesnut up in Ky. wants to send him a care package in the mail. 386

Hotel bust about 8 years ago. Manager wanted to press charges. Showed my room key and informed him that payment would not be made if I was locked up and subsequently penalized. He dropped the intent to charge, asked us politely not to jump from the roof again, sent up a bottle of Champagne. Lake front hotel, all glass , about 500 footer. Guess? edit: by request of original poster ~TA

Robin, I'm sure you'll do fine with this. Robin and I also have a history, and I owe him my life in some regards which cannot be divulged but he knows and remembers the circumstances which were also physically and ego-disabling. He might in fact be sitting in the same hospital bed at this time! With regards to E jumps, he's truly one of the pioneers and has opened tons of exits long before most current jumpers were doing hop n pops from beat up cessna's. Now, politically speaking, he can be a hornet but who gives a shit. Heal fast 386

Feral only slam's smack. The other is just mouthin'. Being a seppo from the Ky jelly state of the U.S., this has been observed over the years. He don't mean to diss I don't believe. Chill out. 386

Doug, I'll stand behind you too. Come on down to Kentucky sometime, chill a bit with the wife, dog and horses, t.v. towers and sickeningly low bridges over water(all freefallable by a sick phuck) BASE 386 Chesnut

Awesome reply Canuck. Couldn't agree more. I'm a fairly old timer with my first base jump being in 1987, approximately 500 base jumps, and not one damn aerial in all of them. Maybe there's a bit of jealousy in some of the ole timers...I know I am, but I also know my limits. I'm an over forty soft cock flat and stable propecia taking ho banging has been perfectly content with the occasional SOLO jump. BASE has rapidly advanced in the past 10 years with respect to aerials/advanced exits and some ole farts are just pissed they didn't make a much bigger contribution to the sport. In my opinion, Dwain Weston has been the single most pioneering jumper in the history of the sport and most of all he was willing to share the knowledge and fill the internet with useful advice on exits, gear, techniques etc.etc... Gone but not forgotten. 386 386

p.s. I live only 25 minutes from Frankfort in Georgetown and haven't skydived in 10 years, any of you have a rig I could jump on one of the July weekends?? Would enjoy getting back into CREW. base386@dropzone.com

" We have quite a few base jumpers that are regular DZ members where I skydive. " Do you mean Bridge Day jumpers or BASE jumpers?? There is a difference in my point of view. I wasn't aware of that many local jumpers, only the hardcore Malaysian finalist in Louisville area. Have a "few" email me as I jumped 9 towers and 6 bridges in the central state region and could turn the experienced on to them, as I am old and gray with new hobbies and less time to burn objects up Team Old and Brittle Chesnut 386

180s - Risers or Toggles on big canopy and small canopy
base386 replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Archive
I idiotically jumped a 270 foot power tower into a 5-7 knot quartering headwind because of the nasty 500,000 volt wires on the other side(which is jumpable). 160 off heading occured and both rear riser action followed by releasing the R rear riser left me flying adjacent and without object strike. It was totally instinctual. Toggle release decision making would have been like building a nuclear weapon, beyond my scope. BASE 386 Jimmy in Cincy, call me again. If you're a friend of Jimmy's, pass the message. I don't have your phone number. Our pool's warmed up, grass is green and I need jump partner or I'm gonna have to get one of those motorized parachutes to fart around with...as I am now an over forty farthead. 859-583-6383 Don't worry, I've got the FEDS on call block!!!!!!! -
I've lived and base jumped in Kentucky for 17 years, hope to continue 17 more. Would love to help you out but if your profile is correct, groundcrewing may be a better alternative. BASE 386 base386@dropzone.com

Gear fear is not a bad thing, I believe. My greatest fear in life has been to pitch and only continue to accelerate. An unsecured bridle killed a jumper this past year.About 5 years ago, a now deceased jumper was referring to a jump he made from a sub 300' cliff in Moab area. He described walls on each side of the exit point extending out at 45 degree angles severely limiting how much of an off-heading could be dealt with. When asked if he jumped it and why, he replied..." I've got all brand new gear, what could happen?" Yes, he is still dead.

Holy shit!! Am I seeing correctly, or just stoned...?? Is that you John Wayne....is this me?? 386

I believe climbers could easily transition to BASE without skydiving because they are" pre-conditioned "so to speak to an irrational potentially hostile enviroment. In my opinion, skydiving before BASE is ideal because of this conditioning. My first skydive in 1985 was significantly more horrific than my first basejump, and it set the stage for being comfortable(relatively) for BASE when that day came...28 jumps later. It's all in the mindset and that is highly individual. BASE386 Hey Jimmy in Cincy, call me... Weather's gettin better, hibernation is about over. Come on down for some "greener" pastures and ice cold ones. base386@dropzone.com D-Dog, good to meet you out at Dwain's mem in L.A.. You're fuckin crazy, but that's relative, and admirable in my world. I think you've got a valid point, but only a rare clientele are eligible.

Hey there, when Nikolas died, I became president of old and brittle. I mean, how many 40 plus year old BASE'rs are there out there? If you're a BASER over 40, lemme know what you're joints sound like when you squat to launch a rocket!

You rock...Stay consistent 386

Sike!!!!!!!!!!!! No, in reality, I don't plan on quitting base jumping but this shit has been going through my head for a while. The idea for the bluff came from watching Young Guns today when Emilio Estevez was writing his letter of surrender to Sheriff Brady and the governor. But seriously, let's quit with the fuckin dyin' for christ's sake. I'm catchin shit left and right from family and friends. Hell, I have fun going flat and stable, and have for 14 years. I am a true soft cock but have intact protoplasm. I believe that BASE jumping when approached intelligently can be a SAFE SPORT. 4 questions must be asked and responded to affirmatively... #1 Is weather appropriate for the jump? #2 Is my gear appropriate for the jump?( and checked) I mean shit, am I really a pussy for asking a buddy for a gear check before I launch?? #3 Am I psychologically prepared to make the jump, or even sober enough? #4 Am I skilled enough to pull off this same jump 100 times in a row?? No, a 50 or 75% score on this test is a failure. Get it? Sorry for the scare Yuri!!! Give me a call about the trip you were wanting to make. You can still have the banana canopy though, as a former team psilocybin psilution member to a team "Old and Brittle" as Nik used to say, I do prefer a 265. Flame away you crazy phucks!!

It's a hard letter to write and an even harder decision I've had to make over the past 3-4 months. Although I started BASE jumping in 1988 with two jumpers in the top 200 of base numbers, I've logged just over 475 logged base jumps and probably a score of unlogged ones as well. My entire life has revolved for years around this sport. I've even at times during my career assumed that I would also wind up one day on the World BASE Fatality List, assuming I would jump into my old age. The death of Lee a.k.a. Skypunk, and then especially the fatality of one of the best people I ever knew in my entire life....a guy I truly loved hardcore...Nik Hartshorne started my re-evaluation of why in the hell do I still jump????? Because it's a hell of a rush and that rush has never seemed to diminish despite the years , roadtrips, IPBC competitions, trips to Europe, etc.. Despite this, I've decided to shift my attention back to flying and getting a multi-engine rating which is a hobby that my wife can enjoy as well. I do not want to lose any more friends in the sport. I cannot justify it. Everytime my wife even meets a jumper that she gets to know, love, and trust....they phuckin die!!! I do plan to keep a rig or two, because there are some awesome and safe jumps within my easy access...just in case . It's the "lifestyle" of BASE that I have to abandon, and it's been a bitch of a summer and fall coming to grips with this. Yuri, you're a great friend and I still want to hook up with you for some climbing, rafting, kayaking, flying. This is the hardest shit I've ever had to type in my near 40 years of existence. Stay safe, take it low, email me if you want to chew my ass out!!! base386@dropzone.com p.s. The "banana canopy " which many of you IPBC'rs feared, which incidentally had 132 of 138 on heading openings and was a winner of canopy openings at Tombstone few years ago is yours Yuri if you want it. It needs attention. I'll hang on to my 265!!!! Ciao

D-dog, if you're ever in Ky., email me. We've got 3 show horses as well, paso fino breed. My wife has this fantasy of me making a daytime jump from an east coast object, jumping on horseback, and eluding the "officials" on a fast trail ride. Sound good? Ciao Remembering Nik

Yo 386 here, I had c-7 compression fracture in Febuary of this year from a freak accident in an ice storm, MRI showed a 50%loss of height in this vertebral body. No cord injury. I'm now back to both slider up and slider down jumps, though I'm going slider up at any opportunity....not that I like to climb but I love the longer delays. I delayed seeking any medical attention for almost a month after the incident, partly because I'm a e.r. doc myself and my wife thought I was just being a pussy! Had I been seen by a neurosurgeon, I probably would have been splinted for 8 weeks and would have been grounded for a full year....(which is for the surgeon's peace of mind and fear of malpractice) Early p.t., which consisted of a bowflex machine in the first two weeks I believe helped a significant amount....That and friend's with vicoden! Just made my last jump last night with two good friends from Cincinnati, and plan to jump again this week. P.T. the hell out of whatever hurts; and good luck. BASE386Quote
