good deal on travel insurance for UK jumpers
flylikeahandbag replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I also have AXA. Cost me £120 for the year worldwide (including US). I know two people who have claimed against AXA policies after accidents in the US and as far as I'm aware both settled without problem. My rig is covered on my home contents through the Woolwich (now Barclays). Don't recall it costing me anything extra. Remember to break down the costs of each element of your rig eg container, main ect as some policies have a max per item (around £1500). If you have told them an over all figure say £3k then they might want extra money. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk -
Yello!!! Another Brit here. Jump at Peterlee.

Ear problems due to altitude and pressure

DoH! Just realised after reading it again that I misinterpreted what you were saying, and that you were advocating the use of ear plugs. Apologies -
Ear problems due to altitude and pressure
flylikeahandbag replied to lintern's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I sometimes wear ear plugs on the ride to altitude (which I remove before exit) believing that I'm protecting my ears from excessive noise. Are you saying that this will lead to loss of hearing? What is your reasoning? The gum method used to work for me when I first started jumping and was suffering. I found after about 60 or so jumps that it was no longer an issue. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk -

Who's going to the BPA AGM? And what's your plan?
flylikeahandbag replied to BethUK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There are quite a few coming down from Peterlee. Not sure how many will be attending the dinner. I'll be in the bar. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk -
The problem is is that the set options link no longer takes me to the options page. This is the same for any of the links on the weather page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk

I tried to set up a default place on weather. Unfortunately I only put in a state and not a place and state, so when I go to the weather it gives me several options for the place. If I select one or type in a new place and state and hit go everything is OK. The problem is that If I select set options (to correct this mistake) then the page does not change. This is also the same if I select United States ,Canada, International, or Your Weather. Hope this makes sense. Is this what you are looking for:- TO CONVERT STUDENT PROVISIONAL (CATEGORY 3/TANDEM/AFF LEVEL 1) / TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP TO FULL: Between April and August: £63.00 From September: £44.53 October: £42.15 November: £36.28 December: £33.89 January: £28.00 February: £25.63 If not give them a ring as MIKEMC suggests. They are usually very helpful.

I would wait until you have your A licence (unless you already have it) before you buy you first helmet if you can as this will increase your options (A protec might be your only option otherwise). Note that you cannot wear a full face in the UK until you have at least 50 descents (you might even need your B licence). As for goggles a pair of sky eyes (£10 to £15) should be OK. A warm pair of gloves especially now the winter is coming. Note that you must be able to carry out your reserve drills without hindrance when wearing glovers so take this into consideration. Ask your instructors for guidance in these matters if you are not sure. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk

They are pretty much open on wed, fri (afternoons) and weekends all year round weather allowing. Probably best to phone Ian (CCI) 0191 5171234 to confirm availability of revision training. Good luck.

Have a look at this link might give you some pointers.

I had a 1986 Zerox until recently and it was in great condition. I would not have used it for FF though without any mods, but it was an ideal starters rig. As others have said get a rigger to check it out for you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk

A couple newbie questions...

This is certainly a BPA rule. Not sure what the equivalent USPA rule is. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk -

Peterlee is a friendly DZ where all are welcome. There is no skygod culture and everyone is friendly and always willing to help (just ask). There is a great mix of people from the surrounding areas including students from the local universities. The DZ currently has two aircraft, a C-182 and a 16 place LET410 which gets to 13K in about 13 mins. The PLA is large with plenty of overshoot areas. The packing area can be congested when the DZ is busy and normally packing mats are provided outside to provide additional space. There is facility to playback videos in the bar/canteen area. An electronic manifest makes it easy to find out which load you are on as there are departure viewers dotted around. Other facilities at the DZ include a bar, canteen, showers, and his and hers bunkhouses (£5 B&B is not to be sniffed at). Saturday nights are busiest in the bar with the occasional event (live band, karaoke etc). If you are in the North East of England drop in and check it out for yourself. Edit - Rewritten

My understanding is also that the dives not fully explained in the Annex are just labels for when the data is downloaded to JumpTrack. However if you e-mail L&B I'm sure they would be more than happy to provide you with an explanation.

Someone at my local DZ showed me something similar to this and I must say it works a treat. Takes a couple of pack jobs to get the hang of it but worth while trying. Once you get the air out and have the canopy at the right width for the bag, while still lying on the canopy fold the top of the canopy underneath (u will need to raise the top half of your body ). Stay lying on the canopy and check the width (dont worry if it is a little wider it will fit). Next get up quickly and fold what is now the top of the canopy (with the fold already done) back on top of the canopy so that you now have an S fold in the top of the canopy. Put your knees on this and prepare the bag (don't worry to much about the bottom of the canopy filling a little with air just keep the air out of the part you have just S folded). I find it easier to put a corner at a time in the bag. Once in the bag quickly move to the top of the bag (you will be facing your container) and stop the canopy in the bag inflating by continuing to roll into the bag as required then roll the bag forward so that the mouth of the bag is facing the ground on top of the bottom of your canopy and put a knee on it. This now gives you a chance to use your hands to remove any air from the remainder of your exposed canopy. When ready roll the bag upright and push(fold) the remainder of the canopy into the bag between the other fold hence creating another S fold in the bag. You should now be able to control it while you close the bag (roll the bag forward a little to make this easier). Hope this helps .
