  1. Besides the MrBill I think that the low pulls almost have to take the award for second stupidest activity at Rantoul 2004 I have video of the cutaway on the 1st Sat morning from the person who bag locked then hummed it down, trying to get stable... or at least thats the story I heard. Would upload it, but I have no way to get it from my ancient camera to a computer. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 2. Yep. A lot of the more experienced people at my DZ think its a waste of time. "Go jumping, don't sit at your computer." There are also a TON of things that happen that never get posted or are talked about on here that I am sure are MUCH MUCH more stupid and dangerous. They tend to happen when no one is looking and I'm sure if someone saw these types of things it would be posted and people would have a very similar response. I hear of a lot of injuries or "incidents" forum events that just don't get posted. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. Nothing, but I think sometimes people just want to go up in freefall together and share something cool. Every jump doesn't have to be a skill drill or hardcore RW, or anything really. Maybe they just want to go up link a 2-way and stare at eachother. They won't learn much,.... nope, they wont. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 4. I guess the end all answer to this is: If the DZ rigger says the brakelines are the right length (which they probally are) and you don't take wraps you wont stall the canopy. Based on the fact that you are already pulling the toggles as far as they can go. If your instructor thinks that taking a wrap is a bad idea and/or you think its a bad idea, then barring a change in the laws of physics you won't get the canopy to stall, does your instructor know that you have tried everything and it won't work? Maybe see if he will come fly relative to you and watch what your doing. It will at least prove to him that your trying to stall the canopy but just can't get the toggles down far enough. Above all, just listen to thier advice... they know the situation much better. p.s. The student gear, for example, at my DZ has been set up so most people can't cause a stall w/o taking a wrap. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Read this: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=740120;search_string=first%20rig;#740120 and this: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=46 And then ask your instructor. Thats about the best possible answer you could get for this question. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. Some other forums do it where you put a person on your ignore list and when they have a post in a thread your reading it shows up with something like: "You have choosen to ignore this persons post, if you wish to read it click here" So you can see that they posted and it helps keep thread continuity but you don't have to read what they write. I know some people on other forums who do this because they have a hard time not responding to specific users flames. They just ignored them so it doesn't get read. 10. No they don't and the IOC agreed that the use of the plane for skydiving is the same thing as a chair lift. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  11. Go out and have fun. I have seen/been on a bunch of 00 dives as of late and people seem to work them up to this huge proportion and end up not having fun cause it didn't go well or it was just built up too much. Whatever you do, COOL for 100 and have FUN!! ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. I don't think that this is the type of thing for a forum like this. Most people want to be left out of this kinda thing and it would seem like this is somewhat of a personall attack anyways. Just wondering

Last week at rantoul I only pulled above 3 once (a helicopter jump w/ only me as a jumper and way off line of flight. I was open at 3500) I really didn't want to have someone come plowing into me still in freefall. I think its about what your comfortable with (and of course overall safety). If you don't like to pull at any less than 3 don't. Some people might not like it if your doing RW with them and want to break "really" high, but fuck em... jump with people who don't mind. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. Yeah, I don't have anything contrary to say regarding the points that your making. I guess I am just making the point to make the point. I really wish I would have run into you at rantoul when you weren't on your way to a plane. Every time I saw you it was on the way to a load and never got a chance to introduce myself. Anyways, your right this doesn't exist in a vacuum and it wont and never will but I think its hard to try and consider every variable when we are discussing this stuff on here. It just seems to me that it is kind of pointless if there is no substance behind a lic. I as well do not think that an A lic. gives you definable rights that shouldn't be "violated" but it is supposed to at some level speak to your very basic capabilities as a new skydiver. I would however guess that some people think it does give you rights. >Does this mean you can safely do a 100 way? Of course not. I question whether someone that thinks it would be safe to go on a 100-way with 30 jumps should even have an A. It would seem to me that they have not got a significant grasp on what is and what is not safe. But thats just my opinion I might be wrong ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 17. Yep I was... he was cool about it after he called it in over the radio and no one could find you guys
  18. I agree Re the lines bolded by me in the above: Thats the point I was trying to make, that it would seem if you have an A lic. you are responsible for the level or risk you are willing to take. The first post said that the two new jumpers were consistantly denied the ability to jump together. The first post was pretty short and there wasn't a lot of detail given about what they were trying to do so there may be some other circumstances that kept them from making the jumps, but it does seem that someone is absolutely telling them they can't make a dive together. Which led me to ask if the training people are getting pre-A is good enough. If they don't have the ability to make a judgement that they shouldn't be jumping together and the people at the DZs that they are going to are having to make that decision maybe these two shouldn't have gotten an A which is how we get back to what does an A mean. You said that it means you can jump on your own safely, do you mean only alone or do you mean you have the ability to take responsibility for yourself in regards to what groups you are comfortable with and safe jumping with. If an A means they have to take responsibility for themselves then it seems that either these two shouldn't have gotten one or the DZs that are not letting them jump together are not being reasonable. I don't know I guess the point that I am making is that we have a contradiction of what people are saying the A means and what it is meaning in practice -or- we have an issue of two people who shouldn't have licenses but somehow do (no offense intended and my guess is that this isn't the case). For clarification, I know that the issue isn't this cut and dry, there is quite a bit of gray area when it comes to what a newer jumper (myself included as I have only been skydiving for just over a year) is informed on an capable of making a decision about. It is clear that, - Two new jumpers jumping together won't learn much. - There is a level of added risk when two new jumpers jump together. - No way in hell should two NGs freefly together. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. I mentioned this in the other thread about this same topic but, basically the IOC said that there was not a concern regarding the use of airplanes because: As for the 2008 games the FAI was denied application for skydiving. 21. Very cool to wake up to that song. Kinda peacefull... Waking up at rantoul to a little of that and opening canopies is just cool....

  23. Jumped it 3 times. 1st jump was 10 people on the plane and I was really wondering how they could fit 17 in there like they were claiming. Floor was really slick and it just seemed cramped. 2nd jump was the 1st sunday and it was quite horrible. 15 people and they hadn't turned the copilot seat around yet. I was 1 of a 2 way and the rest was a 13 way. Was one of the three jammed up front, and honestly i couldn't feel most of my leg cause it fell asleep till I pulled it up and put it on someones lap. Watched people trip and fall over trying to exit the 13 way, didn't look fun. 3rd jump was 2nd saturday and they had things worked out better but it was not a full load and I still didn't really like it that much. 85% of my jumps are from a king air or a caravan, probally 10% out of a 182, and maybe 5% from an otter. I much prefer the caravan to the PAC. I guess I like sitting on the floor more (which is how the KA/Caravan I am used to is set up) and it just didn't seem as comfortable they way they had the benches set up as I am used to. I wouldn't say that I'm biased to the size of an otter because I just don't have that many otter jumps. Maybe I am in the minority of saying its not that great, but I can at least say the person that did the 2-way with me agreed with my sentiments. I can't complain about the climb rate or the operating costs because they are good. (and yes, the pilots did get MUCH better at using the GPS as the convention went on) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 24. If you read: http://www.fai.org:81/news_archives/fai/000127.asp It shows that the FAI has been asking for Skydiving to be allowed into the olympics. Asking for the IOC to include a sport is kinda standard practice. There is an application process and such. Your right though, skydiving is fun just because... but thats a whole other point. Also, the IOC said that skydiving is NOT a "powered" sport because: ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
