  1. that's where i got the idea ... don't walk back in if you're rig is out of date. there is no reason to "warn" anyone right after the jump, since presumably the rig can not be out of date since you just jump it. the second quote is pretty much self explanatory as well. i might got the wrong impression, but that's the one i got. stan My post had nothing to do with jumping out of date reserves in the sense you are thinking. Our DZ maintains a list of everyones reserve date to make sure everything is legit. My point was only in that it would of been stupid for the FAA guy to get all finicky and start checking reserves if no one was on, around, or just comming down from off the plane. In our case he was just being a pain in the ass and holding up jump operations for what we considered a long period of time after we had already been delayed that day. just as an fyi ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 5. I know I have done over 150 in the last year. How many for sure I don't know. I really wish that I could jump more but right now I am spending every penny so there isn't much more left. It will be nice some day when I can get a rating or 3 to help suppliment the jumping $ & #s. In fact I just sent someone an email today talking about the fact that I am not happy in how much I am jumping. I want to be doing a lot more. /sigh It would be nice to do more than 10-12 a weekend and throw a hour in the tunnel on top of that I think I need to move and get a better paying job. Only 4 months till I am done with college... yay ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 9. We had an FAA guy show up at the DZ recently. He was over at the FBO I guess and noticed us skydiving. He came over and spent an hour checking paperwork/plane stuff. We had to sit and wait while he checked both our planes with the pilot. Left before anyone got on the plane and showed up after everyone was already packed. He couldn't of checked reserves because its not against the rules to have an out of date rig just sitting around. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 10. I voted a guy with nothing to lose because at some point he may be more willing to take some risks with things that a guy with everything to lose wouldn't, in order that he can be more like the guy with everything to lose. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. The thing that cracks me up most is that if I look in the yellow pages they are the first DZ listed. It shows the city as being in GA but it lists a "Milwaukee Number" lmao... what a waste. I sure hope people aren't calling them over our DZ ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 13. There is a lot in that. It really does just depend on the people involved. It is easy to give a canned answer and say yes or no it will or will not work. There is soo much more to the dynamics of a relationship than whether your both skydivers or not. There are lots of things that make relationships not work and there are some things that help them to work (I think a lot of making a relationship work has to come from actually working at it, not just having the right circumstances). Add all of that up and then hope that you meet someone you like, that they like you, and you can both express that interest towards each other. I think that when you make it that far skydiver or not you should take a chance with it. Whats the worst thats going to happen, you break up? Well fuck it. So many relationships end that way anyhow. If you were intrested enough in each other to be thinking about trying it, go for it. I, for example, have found myself liking someone in particular as of late, just happend and I'll see where it takes me. RE the thread starter... just roll with it and see what happens. Life does tend to work itself out if you put in some effort. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 15. Stealing is stealing. People pay quite a sum to get permision to use photos for websites. 16. Right but parachutist wouldn't be so unethical about it, they would at least give credit where credit is due, AND it would still be wrong. They are cheating photographers out of compensation due because they are not paying for the pictures like everyone else who wants them is supposed to do. It costs people money to take them pictures, buy cameras, travel to boogies, get on planes, etc. Its no different than stealing anything else. I won't say people don't ever do it, but not only are they taking the pictures they are making a boatload of money off of it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. I don't belive that is a reliable thing to do with all canopies. On my Saber2 for example the toggle difference between stalling and sinking is VERY limited. edit: punctuation ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 20. I really think that is too much of a one size fits all answer. The ability to shorten the distance over the ground that your going to travel with brakes has a LOT to do with what canopy your flying and what the wind is doing on any given day. I don't want to speculate on the circumstances present in somethingelse's situation. "Ask your instructor" about canopy flight characteristics of the differnt canopies you are going to fly. Test things out when you are flying around before its time to set your pattern up. Don't just fly around without thinking about it, make a point to learn something as often as you can. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. That has been my experience with them...every time that I have been around them or flown with them. They are so very caring and encouraging to new skydivers. They know how to get excellence from us, but they also know how to do so while helping us to enjoy ourselves. (I have never seen any of them without a smile in the sky, tunnel or ground.) Furthermore, they have always impressed me with their incredibly warm/personable personalities and their positive energy.
  23. > I'm talking about horizontal separation due to the plane's > line of flight on a good low wind swooping day. Ok, and if you wait 5-10 seconds between groups (Which is typical) the horizontal seperation will be just fine regardless of which group goes out first. They are both 4-ways on thier belly. > Not necessarily Fast's scenario. hmm? > Fast seems to think that both 4-way groups will open at the > same altitude (never rely on vertical separation) and that's a bad > assumption to maintain. Like you say below everyone in general (barring, prematures, cutaways, low pulls, high pulls, and anything else that might go wrong on a jump) will be open between 2k and 3k unless one of the groups has some less experienced people who are specifically pulling higher in which case between the two groups everyone would probally be open between 2k-4k > In his mind, the 5-10 second delay in exit times would actually > mean something in terms of vertical separation. Nuts. How about no? The point I was making really didn't have much to do with that and to anyone else reading this: Never rely on vertical seperation! > I'll try again - of the 2 4-way teams, the 10 people will open at different > altitudes because that's the way it works (hopefully all 10 between 2K and 3K). > No guarantee that the first team will be lower than the second team. Yeah, no guarantee, I don't disagree. > Likely a mix - look around on opening any jump. I do on every jump. Ok I guess? > So Fast wanting out first on a day that's crappy to swoop? Sure, good idea. I am going to guess that there is some sarcasm in that. Either way its acedemic. From a freefall seperation stand point it doesn't make any difference at all which group goes out first. They are the same size and same discipline. I really wish people wouldn't assume that I don't understand that principle. When it comes down to it though, all things being equal (which they aren't always, sometimes people feel the need to spiral down through the pattern, sometimes people are holding in breaks, sometimes there are cutaways, whatever it may be) the guys on the sub 100sqft canopies are comming down faster. They will be on the ground faster and have a harder time trying to hold and stay above the people who are flying larger canopies. I guess that the question is whats more convient and safe for the specific situation. I don't think that there has to be one size fits all answer for every day. If there are two groups out first and it doesn't matter freefall wise which ones goes first whats the point in making it harder on either one, to me thats when the ego starts talking. When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter. Like I said, this discussion is purely acedemic. If people pay attention to what they are doing when flying a canopy it mostly doesn't matter canopy wise who gets out first, it seems to be a convenience issue. p.s. Also, as a matter of point I want to say. I was posing what I said as somewhat of a question. You sure did take a nasty tone with me. Oh well, I guess that is a fault of the internet forum as a means of communication. and I am just here to learn not prove you wrong. Which is why I made the post in the first place. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 24. I have to agree with comparing it to a grand caravan. I don't think its fair to compare it to an otter. They are not really in the same leauge. Comparing it to a caravan, from a jumpers standpoint I like the caravan more. The extra room inside is nice as I really don't like being cramped in. I will take a slightly longer more comfortable ride over a cramped shorter ride. From a $ standpoint the pac is better. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 25. In this case though it was two 4-way groups that were going out first. In that case wouldn't it be prudent to put the guys with sub-100 canopies out first so they don't have to float a long time to wait for the others to land thier slower canopies. The exit order at that point doesn't make much of a difference because they are both 4-way RW groups. There has to be something else to fall back on. Maybe which team pulls higher? dunno if there was a difference there. I don't know, it seems that there is more to consider beyond the typical RW/FF/whatever at what size group when you have two or more groups of equal size. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
