  1. Hmm...well you saw a reader, guess that proves it works. /confused mumbling. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  2. See even the genius inventor on dropzone agrees. The markets that are being pushed most aggressively are the ones like UPS replacement. As for earlybirds. Go ask someone who bought HDTV 2 years ago if they have gotten many worms. In fact, just ask them how much content they got before 05 or even now. Early adopters have their place, but it can be a risky proposition. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  3. Well, now I will admit I love Chicago. Duckwater I have friends living downtown and it is blast as long as you are close to work. Regarding, the North Ft. Worht statement (although we are jumping ahead a bit based on the preliminary question) it really depends on where you work. NE Fort Worth, and SW Ft Worth are as distant as Irving and Plano or Naperville and Evanston. They are both nice areas with a lot of recent expansion, but they leagues apart in traffic. You would not want to drive from NE to SW in rush hour traffic if you could do anything to avoid it. Downtown Ft. Worth it a marvel. The reason for a lot of this is the Bass family. They own almost all of the land downtown, and of course the incredible Bass Hall is named in honor of them. The Bass City Center (downtown) has their own bike police who can be to any spot in downtown in under two minutes. I suspect it is actually less and they are always kinda wandering around. The result is a clean urban area where you can walk around at 2am with no concerns. Hardly true of Deep Ellum in Dallas. Regarding boredom, maybe you just weren't here lone enough to move from the tourist scene to the local scene. Considering even half the DFW metroplex as your playground there is any kind of food you could want (except Giordanos ), great sushi, musical events of endless variety in half a dozen major venues and countless smaller ones, all major league sports, all minor league sports, a horse track, 6 flags, 2 water parks, multiple lakes, any professional organization you can think of. What in the world did you want to do that you were bored? But then I think mailin said she lived in Denton. That is like living out past Geneva compared to Chicago...until recently the only thing there was UNT. Anyway...this thread has left me more impressed with my choice of residence :) -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  4. I will agree with this, and say you have a pretty objective viewpoint. My point was it is not ready for rollout yet in a LOT of scenarios. It was hailed as a wonder technology and the people with money on the line are saying a bit different things right now. Just like Firewire, Bluetooth, etc. Any techonology has a development life cycle, and in reality most costumers do not buy until the maturity point, sometimes even on the verge of obsolesence. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  5. Ahh, but which industry? The one selling it as a solution or the logistics industry trying determine between multiple choices. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  6. It SOUNDS cool, but totally depends on the application. Trust me, I am involved with the industry. Wal Mart made some deadlines regarding vendors and product supply using RFID, I can tell you personally that even with those dealines met, their successful ID rate at a pallet level on a loading dock is dismal. And that is just tracking pallets, not even anything more detailed. If is in its infancy, it needs more R&D and more standards. The only large proponents right now are military/gov suppliers and WalMart suppliers. Basically the vendors paid LOTS of money to meet the deadlines and are left with mediocre success at best. That said, I am sure that somewhere out there is using them at very close range with success. But as they were hailed as an industrial end to end tracking solution, they are not working....yet. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  7. Yeah, exactly..... RUN AWAY..... I hate RFID. It just isn't there yet. To the people working on it, it is ground breaking work. To the people trying to implement it in production...HELL NO. If you really want to know why, I can tell you. SHort story, it just is not mature enough yet to be the wonder technology it was touted as. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  8. Yeah, a lot of random opinions here. Ft. Worth gets a bad rap as shit kicking cowtown. It has grown out of that really, not sure if it was true at one time. I would rather live in Ft. Worth than Dallas anyday, more laid back, less ubertrendy. But given the choice I live in Arlington, right in the middle. Disagreeing with one and agree with another, cost of housing/living is low. There is almost anything you want to do in the metroplex, jumping, indoor climbing, art, food, etc. That being said, we think nothing of driving 20-30 minutes to get something like that in a neighboring 'suburb'. 4 within 2hours (depending on where you live): 1 turbine, and 1 non USPA. Add another 2 hours, and you have Aggieland, Spaceland, Waller, San Marcos, etc. You are within 60-90 of Lake Texoma, for any boating and water activities. We have no state income tax. Here are some real figures: http://www.terminalreality.com/dfw/col.html That being said, I don't think the metroplex is the best place ever, for scenery I would rather be in Colorado. But for a lot of people it offers a really great mix of jobs, culture, and sports. Of course other people will probably complain about the Texas attitude. To them I say kindly "Piss off, Mam" -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

    DVD Burners

Current best in my opinion Benq1620a I have a Lite-ON 451s and it is AWESOME, but only 4x. Read reviews by the masters: http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/search/B That group of people puts drives and media through more extensive testing than anyone else on the net. The funny thing I have found with DVD drives is that with each new generation, the 'best' seems to move to a new brand. You need reviews like the above, brand alone is not enough. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  11. Yeah..what everyone else is saying...it depends. In general I prefer propane. It is so easy to walk out, heat for 5 minutes, grill for 10 minutes and be done. Additionally, if you have the bed under your grill, using wet wood chips, etc it is just as tasty as charcoal. I will gladly eat of either, but I think propane gives the easiest preparation with no taste loss if you use wood chips. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  16. Just FYI, the pic you posted was a Golf, not a GTI. No biggie, but might have had some effect on the kind of feedback you got, since a golf can be any one of several engine choices. The GTI is a great car, if you happened to get a 20th anniversary they have a lot of extras, but I can understand wanting new as well. Additionally, while I do not like the styling of the new mkV jettas AT ALL, the GTIs are alright, not great. BUT...the interiors are NICE http://www.vwvortex.com/artman/uploads/028__scaled_600_001.jpg When I was making my decision, I was looking at an 03 20thAE GTI, an 03 VR6 GLI, and an 05GLI. They 05 won mainly on just mean looks. But I was comforted because I was choosing between better and best. I think in any case, mkIV, mkV you will get a good car....assuming some early model glitches on the mkV. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  18. Well I use TriLLian with two ells. I run AIM,MSN,ICQ,Yahoo and typically have no issue at all. That being said you MUST have the lastest update, as the networks are always changing trying to lock out 3rd party clients like Trillian. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  19. NICE. There is a guy here in Arlington that has a golf MkII with a MkIV 'mostly stock' engine and just ran 10.8 in the quarter. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  20. Yeah, if you try to find benchmarks, it is kind of like that. Most benchmarks were placed before GPS, and the later given scaled geocodes based on a USGS maps coords. So, geocachers try to find them and then post an accurate gedocode. Typically the scaled coords are +-300ft. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  21. Well to each his own, and I respect your opinion. BUT, you come off as a autocrosser/rally driver trying to place his expectations on a street car. I am not gonna get into an argument, but if you rate the WRX above an A3 or R32 your demands are very different than mine. Track tests have been made with an EVO, WRX STi, and R32, and the results do not back what you are saying. I would not buy a WRX, they feel thin/cheap. That might be a pretty unscientific test, but they fell nothing like my GLI. So if I gain 1 second, at the expense of that...meh. I will agree their dependability is very high. However, if they break parts and aftermarket are higher than similar boltons for the 1.8T. Additionally, I will disagree with your statement about FWD. There a HUGE question of context. There is a reason the most cars are FWD today vs RWD 20 years ago....and....it is handling. Now granted it is in the sense that might not give you the fasted line through a curve. But it will help average drivers in conditions other than dry smooth pavement. Again, it sounds like you are buying a track car, and from that standpoint, I don't disagree with you. However, if buying from the standpoint of $20-25K transportation with a large fun streak, I think VW and Acura are your two choices. It is just my opinion, I considered the WRX, the r32, GTI, etc, and came away with a Jetta GLI, because it was the best mix. But even then, I would have pruchased an r32 over a WRX STi at the same price. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  22. Hehe, I just placed one on Saturday I had had for 3 months. But I made up for it with photos:http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?LUID=1f0081e0-5533-4ab7-bc7d-dc2981d51385 -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  23. Yep, I cache and hunt benchmarks, chase travelbugs, and am in the process of making my first cache and bug. It has been posted before, but two years ago. If you are lost at this point: On May 2nd, 2000 the first geocache was placed in Oregon. Today there are over 160,000 caches in over 200 countries. www.geocaching.com -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  24. Well, not to argue, but based on your post I above, I am not sure were are acquainted with the same cars. People throw a lot of rocks at VW of America for big corporation lack luster service, I cannot say if that is ture or not, but my dealership experiences have been nice. That seems like saying I wrote Ford Motor Company personally and they responded with a form letter....uh, yeah. I am have to completely disagree with you on speed and handling, although I admit I own a Jetta GLI, probably the one of best handling cars of they make. It might be the quickest in a straight line, but who wants that anyway. My understanding was good reliability, or I would not have made the purchase. Again, not sure what your experience was, so I am not disagreeing with it. But perhaps it was not representative of the whole. The fit and finish/overall workmanship on my Jetta seems EXCELLENT compared to a comparably priced, say Chevy Impala or Ford Taurus. Based on your immense knowledge of mkIVs, what would you rather own? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
