Take the labels off all the cans in her kitchen cupboards! Someone did that to me once. It really is kind of funny

My explanation is that if all 16 year olds had to buy their own cars they wouldn't be as likely to crack them up and drive up insurance rates

my Boss said he hopes my parachute doesnt open!!!
Breezejunky replied to linny's topic in The Bonfire
Your boss is clearly unprofessional (and not too bright either - no chute-only broken legs?) but I kinda gotta wonder, what did YOU do to bring this about? I've worked for some real assholes before and I'm no shrinking violet, but there has never been an exchange remotely close to that. Perhaps you BOTH need to look at what's going on. Just playing devil's advocate here. I'm a boss now and I've had some real beaut's working for me so I try to look at both sides. -
I had a great boss from England, and like somebody else posted about Europeans, he too thinks North Americans have very little culture. We often "discussed" it over too many drinks. So I'm curious as to what you consider American culture. You say there is a "very long list of original positive culture". Perhaps you could name 5 or 10 of the ones you are most proud of. Please include a few that are "emulated around the world" Also, and I hope I don't sound too ignorant here, is there, or perhaps I should ask, what is the difference between culture and national identity? I feel there is a difference, but I can't really define it.

Wow, I guess all that world travel has left you pretty high and mighty. Since you know so much about "the world around you" and you travel so extensively, presumably on aircraft, just how many aircraft are you licenced to repair and/or fly? You see, I'm licenced on several. But where I have spent most of my life working, in the Canadian bush, there is often not even electricity, never mind internet access. I think it would behoove you to be a little less harsh on those with different knowledge and life experiences than yourself and let us newbies get the same kick out a first time experience that you once had. I have over 1600 skydives but I don't go around saying to tandems "This is getting so old. Before you go on and on for the 1587438447th time about your jump, remember everyone around here has done it before tons of times and we're sick of hearing it"

Ummm....I actually spend very little time on the net and this clicky scared the living shit out of me. I thought it was hilarious! I guess being somewhat computer illiterate, not to mention too busy to spend hours playing around on the net, has it's advantages. It's nice not getting bored and cynical so easily. Gotta save something for the golden years

I'm not clear on your first point. Who is doing the one-way thinking? As to your second...statement, where do you get your information on Canadian government policy? Your comments, though incredibly vague, are specious and clearly misguided. If this is the type of conclusion you draw from watching Fox then it seems to me that we really are better off without it here.

Sorry, opinions that disagree with yours (presumably) don't constitute a "troll" You are absolutely right. But often utterly ridiculous and inflamatory ones do. First of all, what the hell does it's national identity have to do with the greatness of a country? What an incredibly juvenile and ignorant thing to say. Secondly, you're American. What do you know about Canada or the Canadian identity? You probably don't even know we drive on the left side of the road.

"Why can't the rest of the world see what's clear to at least 1/3 of americans? What do we have to do to force them to see the truth" Heh, heh, heh I think that some in Canada might find it interesting how the news from some OTHER part of the world, besides the US, is interpreted. It might even make us more tolerant...or less tolerant, but at least we'll be able to form a more educated opinion. And I'm sorry it offends some Americans (and CanuckinUSA's) that we are so multicultural here in Canada. As the Asian and South Asian economies are becoming the largest in the world, it must be very scary to think such a large portion of them will want to do trade in other counties where their people are established, hence strengthening the Canadian economy to a point where we might not have to worry about the softwood lumber (and other "free trade" issues) dispute with you guys. We have plenty of US news channels here and most anyone who gives a hoot what Fox has to say, along with millions of other couch potatoes, have satellite TV so they can get Fox anyway. Besides, after Fox used that hockey puck follower thing, (I think that's the technical term) it lost so much credibility here that who wants it anyway? I love my American friends and I spend a lot of time (and money!) there. It's ridiculous to generalize about people but there is plenty wrong with your country that is frankly quite scary. I know, I know, Canada is running around like a chicken with it's head cut off trying to figure out who we actually are and if we even have a national identity, trying to be tolerant without being taken advantage of and trying to be friends and good trading partners with the US, who we rely heavy on, without selling our souls but we are at least trying to be progressive and our motives are clearly genuine. (We don't have enough money or power to be cynical and manipulative) I appreciate the difficult situation you guys are in and God knows the Americans have done INCREDIBLE things for the world but the impression you guys give sometimes is one of blind national pride at all costs. I can't help but wonder why I hear so much defensiveness? I'm off to the DZ now, so if I get slammed I'm not ignoring you (though I might later anyway) Oh, I too think beer is a good way to resolve disputes!

I got caught stealing a Mars Bar when I was a kid and got grounded for a week. .... Is that what you mean?

I know the guy who used to own Tim Horton's (before he sold out to an American company) Sigh... It's a Canadian thing.

"...but it seems childish to me" Yeah...I'm really surprised to find a childish post on this forum. What's gotten into these people all of a sudden!?

Why don't women get along with each other ?
Breezejunky replied to cocheese's topic in Speakers Corner
All my closest and most amazing friends are female. I get so frustrated when I hear women (and men) saying that women are bitchy and...blah, blah, blah. I think those people need to take a closer look at themselves. And take a look at the girls who say "all my best friends are male" For the most part, (not always) they tend to be very attractive. Hmmmm. I wonder why that is....and please don't say it's because other women are jealous or threatened! Did I mention that all my closest friends are also very attractive females? For many years I've worked in a male only environment (I was often the only female) If you think guys don't sit around and bitch and gossip, you are sorely mistaken! I also can't help but notice the great vibes at women's events and on the women's forum. Why is the perception of women not like women so strong when there is so much evidence to the contrary? Maybe it's because women are supposed to be so loving and gentle that when they are not it's more noticeable? I don't know. Scenario 1: Beautiful girl walks onto DZ. She isn't too bright, not terribly friendly, thinks highly of herself and alienates all but the most attractive boys. Other girls on DZ don't like her. Oooooo, how catty of us! Scenario 2: Guy walks on to DZ. He isn't friendly, quite the smart ass, skydives dangerously, won't listen to more experienced advice and pesters all the women. Girls on the DZ don't like him. So? Double standard perhaps? -
So, what are YOU looking forward to most about Rantoul this year??

Airspeed is coming! Airspeed is coming! If you've ever jumped with Airspeed you'll know why that is so cool. If you haven't, you've got to check it out, you are in for a treat! -
I've done over 1000 jumps on a Spectre. I switched to a Sabre 2 and found it MUCH flatter and way more fun to land. I've had leg and knee injuries so I find the steep glide on a Spectre in turbulence is an issue with me (unless I'm being very aggressive which I rarely am) Out of those two, if the S2 is trimmed properly, I like it much better.

The Pike is the closest, about 5 minutes away. It's not great but it's clean enough. The Rest in is a little nicer but 10 or so miles away. I just booked at the Pike and it seems like they are getting low on rooms so you might want to get on it. See you there! Rhonda

Open discussion on discipline effort choice

All I can do is offer you my thoughts on the way I progressed. I pretty much got my RW skills to the point where I can comfortably fly and have a lot of fun in any situation I'm likely to get myself into. Along the way I learned lots about my body and the effects of input at a slower speeds, more awareness in all sorts of different situations, canopy skills, and I picked up lots of stuff just being in the environment. It's fun to feel that comfortable in the air. Now I am going to concentrate on freeflying. So far my learning curve is much steeper as I'm building on skills already have. I have an appreciation of listening to input from more experienced freeflyers, I can switch back and hop on a belly jump without any issues and it's fun being humbled in the air again....well, it wasn't THAT much fun at first. But it's so cool when I hit major milestones like I did way back when. I really like the way I've done it, but that's just me. Rhonda
