  1. I've confirmed with our carrier that my contents insurance covers my rig and accessories at home and away from home as long as it is secured (must be in the trunk of a locked vehicle; a locked van/hatch back is not covered). It is not covered during use and definately not for cutaways. Limits cover the purchase price and a deductable applies.
  2. Thanks. Do you know of anyone that has tried this and what impact it had? Was it used with other treatment or just alone?
  3. There two types of skydivers: those that fart on the plane, and the rest who lie about it and say they don't.
  4. I took AFF out of Goulburn (close to Canberra) at Simply Skydive Australia - it was a very small 1 cessna DZ then. Looks like they might have moved north of Sydney though http://www.simplyskydive.com.au/. They had pretty delapitated facilities. But if you like a small DZ, that is close to Canbarra, Goulburn is probably the place to go if it is still operating. 1 hr south of Sydney is Sydney Skydivers Sydneyskydivers.com.au, which is much larger and has the big planes (Skyvan, Twin otter, beaver). When I phoned back in '98 regarding AFF they were quite rude, so I went through Simply Skydive. Now I've had more jumps, I'd probably make the trip to Sydney Skydivers - they have the big planes. Hope this helps. Cheers, NewGuy
  5. Thanks, Tom. The info is much appreciated. Cheers, NewGuy
  6. Does anyone know of a good source of Skydiving fatality statistics compared to other sports? I'm after a risk level comparison of skydiving to other sports considered high risk. By good source, I mean something that can be verified and the methods of sampling discussed (as this can dramatically impact the conclusions one draws). So far the following link is the only reasonable comparitive type reference I can find and it is referenced frequently on the net (google search for 'skydiving statistics'); however, I cannot seem to verify the information and don't know the details on how the sampling (data sources) was done. http://www.afn.org/skydive/sta/stats.html The numbers were apparently taken from page 13 of the April 1990 issue of Parachutist (using info put together by the U.S. Hang Gliding Association), which I do not have and cannot therefore confirm. I cannot find anything on the Hang Gliding Assoc's web site or USPA's web site to confirm the sources. The article states "You can also get fatality stats from just about any almanac or "fact book."" If anyone could point me to a particular Almanac it would be appreciated. I've done some laymans investigation into stats being compared and in particular for scuba diving. I've found information that leads me to believe that only after the above skydiving statistics information was put together have reasonable statistics on scuba fatalities been prepared (using fills as the basis, rather than participants and it is virtually impossible to determine participants). See http://www.psychodiver.com/files/SpumArtlcv2.pdf - I have been told this is the first study of its kind for scuba. I'm very interested in the actual risk comparisions (fatalities). Any info that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, NewGuy
  7. Province of "British Columbia" listed in Dropzones/Canada is spelled incorrectly.
  8. Skydive Burnaby is listed as in BC. I believe is actually in the provice of Ontario (there is a Burnaby in BC, just not a Burnaby DZ). Cheers, NewGuy
  9. I'm with ya 100% AndyMan. People just don't know and they should. If products are marked appropriatly and the public educated accordingly then at least people can make informed decisions. Even if laws are made to put such nutritional information on packages people need to know what it means.
  10. My thoughts on wedding and engagement rings are that they should be returned to the giver. That is, if they were originally 'given as a token of the pledge' or whatever. If that is the case for you, you probably have a dimond ring that is owed back to you. Hawk that for a base rig.
  11. This has got to be a f'n joke!?!?! In modern day America segregated proms!?!?! MFG, someone has got to pull a finger out, cuz this is pretty messed up stuff.
  12. Yeah, just attack an entire nation of people instead. Ok, let me explain. In Canada we have two types of people: there are hosers and all the rest are hosers. You've encountered the "hosers." The hosers have it wrong. It should be "it's not like the US, and it is better." Cuz, after living in other countries, I've realized, that wherever I live, it is better. You can see, I definitely fall in the second category of Canadians and not in the first. Cheers, NewGuy
  13. I can't seem to get into this web site. Anyone else having problems? I'm wondering if it is down, or perhaps even blocked out. Cheers, NewGuy
  14. woah... check out the cost of an annual subscription to IraqPress Online: 6000 pounds? http://www.iraqpress.org/english.asp?code=subscription Can anyone tell who really hosts this site? Phone number looks to be UK (area code 44?) I wonder how much 'the other side' this is and how legit this info is. cheers, NewGuy
  15. I was and I did. The others I shared it with enjoyed it as well. If you can't poke fun at yourself, what's left? Still think you've overestimated the Canadian military strength though. Cheers, NewGuy
  16. Aside from this hopefully being friendly banter, I can't agree more with this statement. Although I haven't lived here my whole life, I am Canadian, and after being abroad for several years, this statement rings a bit too true to me... Cheers, NewGuy
  17. Dear Mountainman, you obviously have never seen the Canadian military. Thank you for your generous photos, although they must have been from other countries that have a greater military budget than ours. Cheers, NewGuy
  18. Wow, if that is a sign of trailor trash, I'd definately fit the bill. Haven't had cable for well over 10 years now and its been years since I've had a TV. Then again, I've got a life and enjoy my free time doing other things... What's up with Trailor trash? Just cuz you live in a trailor doesn't mean you're trash. There's got to be more to it than that?
  19. 2am every night!!!! Got the best sleep ever when she was away for a week!
  20. I could see the JW's walking up the street. I knew it was my turn next. When they knocked on the door, I looked through the peep hole, and sure enough it was them. I yelled "Dad, get the Gun, it's the JW's again!" After opening the door, I greeted them with "Hi, hold on a sec, my Dad will be here shortly. He wants to speak with you." Now that I'm a little older I ask them politely to leave and let them know that I don't appreciate uninvited people knocking on my door and taking up my time. Its just like spam, telephone soliciting, junk mail, etc. Its not wanted. So far, this technique works quite well. The revolver helps though.
  21. Hey AggieDave, looks like a great time. Also, looks like I'm the only one that doesn't have a clue of what an Aggie ring signifies. Sounds quite significant, and a major accomplishment, but I don't have any idea of what it is for. Could you fill me in? Cheers, NewGuy
  22. Got a hornet 190, brand new for my first (and only so far) canopy. about 150 jumps on it. Love it. Cheers, NewGuy
  23. Not to flog a dead horse here, but the article states referring to sit flyer. And that Its just another bit of info on the internet - although the picture does look compelling (to me at least). And I thought that the following was worthwhile considering... Make of it what you will. Maybe you are right... Its probably unlikely that you are going to fall out if you find out your rig doesn't pass the test... Just that there is a possibility that it can happen. Until I read this, I didn't think it was even possible to fall out a rig if the harness was done up. Cheers, NewGuy
