From what you said, I gather you just want a decent MP3 player that he can have to listen to some of his favorite songs on. Yes, there are many choices for a good, quality player that will do the trick just fine for under $150. iPod (brand name) now makes a $99 version called the Shuffle that would work. The Original Apple iPod is quite elaborate and pretty amazing, but will also set you back quite a bit more that $150. And you certainly wouldn't want it misplaced or ruined. I have used and seen many different types and brands (I am the guy that everyone gives their electronics to when the can't figure something out) and one of the nicest, easy to use, MP3 players I have found is the Sandisk. You can pick up the 256MB (about 60 songs) player for like $89 now. The one player for under $100 that I have seen repeated problems with is the YEPP. As far as sites for music go, there are also MANY to choose from. Stay with the big names that have data bases and libraries. ie: Napster, iTunes. Do NOT use a file sharing site if you are worried about Spyware and such. The sites that are all "free" are the ones to stay away from. I can answer more questions if you want to PM me.
