  8. I demo jumped a firebolt 236 at all week WFFC.Jumpshack basically let me adopt it for the WFFC (thanks!) I liked the canopy. but it was a bit heavy on the toggle pressure for me. I'm left arm amputee and I have weak left side flare.. can't get full Flare in on left side..but I talked with Don & Howard and Mike F of jump shack and they all felt the Firebolt 218 would be ideal for me. So I bought one. I haven't got it yet.. But I really did like the firebolt.. it does open soft, smooth and on heading.. it flys well and the bottom end lift is great. I'll let you know more when I get my Firebolt 218 soon. The Firebolt is new to market and I don't think many people have had chance to jump one yet.. As for the Racer... I though about that.. seems I didn't see many people jumping racers any more..but I remember fit & comfert of my old Racer [bought used] when I first got into the sport. I since bought a Vector and Talon.. but when I can time for new one.. I decided to go back to a Racer, and I'm glad I did. It fits very well, It well made, and the customer service at Jump shack is great. and when I was at WFFC I noticed a lot of people jumping Racers! I met a guy from Kansas on load who just got his new Racer too.. he too LOVED it! mike
  9. I was there.. but never got to dot.com tent.. Mike
  10. I just bought my 2nd Racer. My 1st one was used racer cira 1977.. I then bought a Vector, but I missed comfort of Racer. Its very comferterable rig. Nancy and staff at jump shack are great to work with. I'm glad I bought a Racer.. its well made and totally velcroless, except for the reserve ripcord pin cover on back of the rig. I also like that the reserve ripcord pins are protected and can't be accidently dislonged while wearing the rig. I bought a Angelfire reserve for it too. and while at WFFC I got to jump the new Firebolt mains and I liked it so much I put a deposit down on a new main. They have lots of lift on the flare. give Nancy a call Nancy@jumpshack.com and she'll set you up on your new racer. my next rig will be a Racer again. Mike

  12. The TSA are ok here at DFW but I've had problems at other airports.. all wires etc get them all excited.. just calm tell them its a parachute and have a cypres card show picture if you have a cypres. as for carring gear on aircraft.. I just carry mine on in gear bag and try board aircraft early as I can as later all the overhead bins get filled up.. I doubt the crew ever knoew I had a rig on aircraft.. but they are allowed. I even have a letter from Robert Crandall saying so.. maybe I should get that updated?? Mike
  13. I work for American.. and I travel all the time with my rig, I carry it on. in gear bag. try board early to get bin.. they ARE allowed. but not with a CO2 cartiage.. where they got that idea I don't know, but I don't understand why.. because every seat on a over water aircraft has one in the under seat life vest as well as extra vest on aircraft. parachute ARE NOT prohibited items,, unless they have a CO2 gas cartiage in it.. but I never ever heard of a parachute with one.. I'll try to find the sarbe N* record where it's listed and post it on here later. Mike
  14. Cool. If I'm ever a one-armed jumper, I'll look into that.
  15. John, I called them about a year ago.. see if I could get a pro-track with LED lights, instead of sound alerts..they wouldn't make me one...good luck finding one.. Mike
  16. I just bought a new Racer & Angelfire Reserve from Nancy LaRiviere at Jump Shack. Couldn't be happier with their Service. Really good customer service. I haven't got the rig yet, Nancy Just let me know other day, that rig is being shipped by the end of this coming this week. Mike
  17. Kristin, I wear hearing aids.. and I know what your talking about... although I've never used the FM loop.. the hearing aid have to be switched to pick it up.. normally there are three postions one switch is on / off other hearing aids like mine you open battery compartments to tirn it off. other switch is M T and M/T M is Microphone for normal convesation T is telephone magnetic coil pick up for using the telephone. and M/T is both hearing aid microphone and telephone coil pick up which is how FM loop works. also: be sure the batteQuotery is install correctly.. lot 6 year old kids "play" with them and put them in backwards.. I should know I used to do that at that age.. check out these links: http://www.hohadvocates.org/telecoils.htm http://www.ovalwindowaudio.com/microloop.htm http://www.rit.edu/~netac/tipsheet/alds.htm
  18. I'm deaf left arm amputee and I skydive guess I'm one of a kind?
  19. One of my leggs is an inch longer than the other Leggs? you wear stockings?
  20. Scotty, Sorry about the typo’s in my earlier post. I was using work computer and keyboard is junk.. So much dirt crud in keys etc on it you have to pound the keys to get it to work.. It sounds like skydive cross key’s really did their homework on the special needs of your sister with CP. A fund raiser / record jumps would be interesting and generate positive publicly too, both on skydiving and the disabled, as well as help change attitudes of the general public towards the disabled.. General Attitude is “they can’t do anything” glad to hear that your sister, lived life a little better, by making a skydive. Now for record jump or publicly on the disabled skydives we’d need sponsorship but I’m not even sure where to start on that…how to get it. Billy Vance was talking about trying to get all the deaf skydivers, Pieces of Eight amputee skydivers and the two known blind skydivers together for a record jump. Think of the publicly we could get.. Blind and deaf skydivers leading amputee’s skydivers..Out the plane. We’d have to find some corporations or organization to do this, and help with expenses of Tandem for students like your sister with CP. Maybe it could be done as part of a camp? It would take bunch of people to assist, suiting all those people up, getting them in / out aircraft / landing…as well as repacking etc. Good idea, disabled record skydives.. Now, how do we get money $ sponsorship to do one? I’m sure we could get the media like US / People or magazines, news like 20/20 or something, to cover it..Anyone got any ideas? It’d be nice to try change people attitudes about the disabled. I’m deaf myself, and left arm amputee too, I grew up hearing I can’t do that because I’m deaf, or this because I am a amputee… good thing I didn’t listen to them, or I’d never become a private pilot / skydiver and aircraft mechanic.
  21. scotty you don't say what her disablitity is.. but there have been many people in wheel chairs and quad too doing tandem skydiver. They require a bit extra care etc to advoid break any bones. I'm sure there's a lot of disabled people out there that would love to do a tandem skydive, but I'm sure they don't know how to go about it.. and dropzones too need to research it, make sure they know how to deaf with certain disabilites. Mike
  22. hi welcome to deaf skydivers.. you won't need a interpiter to do AFF or AFP training, but your instctors / jumpmasters will need more time to be sure you understand everything. it'll be more one on one type training for you. Don't be afraid to ask questions. hve fun. Mike
