USPA Director committing/supporting FAR Violations?
mjosparky replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It was 2005; and 6 years wasn't so long ago. Have things really, really changed all that much since then? I hope so; but I'm not so sure. If I remember they were the only 2 in the air and they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Sad. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Where in the hell are you guys getting these numbers. In his first post he states, “i weigh about 75 kilo/ 150 pounds”. 150 lb plus 25 for gear is 175 lb out the door. On a 170 sq. ft. canopy the loading would be 1.02:1. On a 150 sq. ft. canopy it would be 1.16:1. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

USPA Director committing/supporting FAR Violations?
mjosparky replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
DZ’s violating FAR’s and BSR’s is fairly common. There are pilots flying without a commercial license, pilots putting out static line students, tandems done by non certified jumpers, pilots and instructors working under the influence of recreational substances and a variety of other stupid shit. The members of the board would have to be living under a rock not to be aware of some of this. A quote from USPA’S web page, “The United States Parachute Association (USPA) is a voluntary membership organization of individuals who enjoy and support the sport of skydiving.” USPA is no longer an organization of individuals but has turned into Business Association of DZO’s. This is a huge conflict of interest for those board members who are DZO’s or are a representative of a DZO. The interests of the DZO’s often are often not in the best interest of the individual jumper. A good example would be the Sky ride fiasco. There was no reason in the world for USPA to get involve in that mess except to protect the Group Members. How much did that cost us? I am aware of the board member and dz you refer to and you bet there will be no sanctions against him. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
One of the reasons Bill made the first 3 ring rigs with puds was to give them a different tactical feel then the reserve handle. Now everyone is going with puds for both. So much for that idea. It’s true that what your feel comfortable with is best. The problem is most of the puds and soft handles were ordered to feel cool not because they work better. Thank you. Not sure where I got those figures. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I always converted my rigs over to 2 metal handles. I used the 2 handed method of cutaway and having 2 handles “worked great. I have yet to hear a valid reason for a “pud” in the first place. Puds tend to roll under the MLW and are hard to grip. Here are some canopies that will meet your needs. For mains PD makes the Navigator 260 with a Max suspended weight of 336 lb, and the Silhouette 260 with a Max weight of 336 lb. They have a reserve at 281 sq. feet with a max of 312 lbs. Dolphin, Javelin and UPT make containers that will fit those canopies. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Jump numbers do not always equate to experience or common sense. There seems to be a small segment in society that refuses to learn from the past. I think it is a combination of arrogance and ego or they are just fucking stupid. It’s always been that way and probably always will. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

"ratting out" one someone; would you do it!?
mjosparky replied to virgin-burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From your response I would say you are part of the problem. In the last 3 years 84 skydivers have died under a good canopy. Maybe some would still be alive if someone had “ratted them out” Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

We have too many sheep in the sport already. It doesn’t take any character to run with herd. We don’t always agree but your actions on this say a lot about who you are. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Had the T-Shirt; letters all kind of jumbled together and hard to make out the words. Most people were trying to make out the words so hard, they totally missed that the words were in the shape of a penis Did it look something like this? DZO’s are running a private business and as such they have the right to refuse service to anyone. There is no need for attorneys to be involved. If in the DZO’s opinion the guy is a problem he has the right to ground him or throw him off the DZ. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
