I have been jumping one for many years, not the same one of course, and have been very happy with them. It is important to get measured right for them to fit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

No. Whatever time is required to go 16 laps at 180mph is exactly the same as the time take to go half the distance (8 laps) at half the speed (90mph). So at the end of the first 8 laps (of whatever length they are) he has already used up the entire time available. So NO time is left for the remaining 8 laps. Hence it doesn't matter if he goes at the speed of light, he still can't do it. (I hope you're not just being annoying). So who won, the guy driving 90 mph or Michael Schumacker? A comparison on "What is Fast", or,... How Fast do Want to Go?, well, How much money you got? * One Top Fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500. * Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitromethane per second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy being produced. * A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster supercharger. * With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. * At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitromethane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F. * Nitromethane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases. * Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder. * Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass. After ½ way, the engine is dieseling from compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow. * If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the block in half. * In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must accelerate an average of over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8G's. * Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence. * Top Fuel Engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! * Including the burnout the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load. * The redline is actually quite high at 9500rpm. * The Bottom Line; Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated $1,000.00 per second. The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.441 seconds for the quarter mile (10/05/03, Tony Schumacher). The top speed record is 333.00 mph. (533 km/h) as measured over the last 66' of the run (09/28/03 Doug Kalitta). Putting all of this into perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away from where you just passed him. Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race course. More often than not I am testing a complete system, that is the harness/container and the canopy. Thus the reason for my last hope canopy being attached to the torso harness. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I've never seen one, but I understand RWS's cutaway rig is a standard V3 with a tershiary chest mount attached? One of the gray areas would come from the intended use of each canopy. If the chest mount were attached in a way that did not affect the construction of the harness, or attached via a seperate harness (not TSO'd) and if the chest mount were to be used as the "throwaway" main there is no conflict with the FAR's or TSO's. Or at least thats the way I read it. The system I have used in the past was a TSO'ed torso harness under the test item harness/container. A chest mount is attached to the torso harness. It is not the most comfortable, but my last chance is on a harness that is not part of the test. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Part of TSO testing is cutting away from an open main. Have done that several times. But had 3 canopies. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

If the system is not well thought out ensuring clean cutaways on both 1st and 2nd. canopies, things can get real exciting real fast. You should also have a safety person who is completely familiar with the system for "pin check" and to ride up with you. It is not something to take lightly. Anytime you get rid of a "perfectly good" canopy there are risks. jmo Sparky PS: If the rig is not TSO'ed, it takes a master rigger to jump it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

They not only can be but they are exceeded all the time. If you gain 2 pounds you will be exceeding the max. suspended weight of you reserve. That doesn't make it right but it is still done. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

So... if you were given the chance to drive a 1962 Stingray Corvette, you'd turn it down because it doesn't have airbags and ABS? Something to think about. _Am I would turn it down because the Stingray did not come out until 1963. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

If you happened to be lucky enough to see his 3rd skydive (2nd AFF), you'd be very concerned! The news footage conveniently left out the tumbled exit, one AFFI being thrown off, and the other having a -very- hard time controlling Bush. How -that- happened was they wanted to prevent him from hitting his head like the time before and one instructor actually took Bush's head and pushed it -down- on exit...away from the top of the door! This put Bush into a de-arched attitude and the 'fun' began! If he -does- pull this one off, he better get it right this time! He's repeating Level II, ya know! ltdiver Must be a slow learner. New Poster, New to the sport...
mjosparky replied to Cojimar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Me too. My favorite is to take new A-licensees for their first horny gorilla. They've been working so long on getting their exit just right and getting stable as fast as possible, flipping out of control and falling back to earth is suddenly so much fun. Nothing like seeing that smile! Dave Are you sure you know what a "horny Gorilla" is. Last time I looked everyone on the dive had to do the same thing at the same time. Sounds like you are talking about a "fruit loop". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
